Every day, email account privacy is becoming an increasingly serious concern. Email accounts are used to access various types of sites, especially sites that store personal information such as credit card information, personal addresses, and phone numbers. That's why it's important to make sure that you're the only person with access to your email account.

Part 1 of 2: Checking Account Settings

Step 1. Sign in to your Gmail account
The case-sensitive password entered is case-sensitive. Therefore, the entry “password” is not the same as “PASSWORD”.

Step 2. Click your avatar
It's in the upper-right corner of your browser window.

Step 3. Click “My Account”

Step 4. Click “Sign-in & security”

Step 5. Click on “Device activity & notifications”
It's in the left sidebar.

Step 6. Click “Review events” in the “Recent security events” section
Here, you can see your account login activity in the last 28 days.

Step 7. Return to the previous page
Click the back button (left arrow) in the upper-left corner of the browser window, next to the URL address bar.

Step 8. Click “Review devices” in the “Recently used devices” section

Step 9. Secure the account
If you see login activity or an unrecognized device, click the “Secure your account” button at the top of the page.
Part 2 of 2: Changing Password

Step 1. Sign in to your Gmail account

Step 2. Click your avatar
It's in the upper-right corner of your browser window.

Step 3. Click “My Account”

Step 4. Click “Sign-in & security”

Step 5. Scroll to the “Password & sign-in method” section

Step 6. Click “Password”

Step 7. Enter the current password

Step 8. Enter the new password

Step 9. Click “Change password”

Step 10. Keep in mind that you will be logged out of all devices that can currently access your email account

Step 11. Log back into the account using the new password
Tips
- Don't forget to log out of your account when using Gmail (or any other email program) on a public computer (eg a coffee shop or internet cafe).
- Immediately change account passwords when Gmail sends alerts regarding foreign login activity.
- Change the account password periodically to keep the account safe from hackers.
- Do not give out your account password, even to those closest to you.
