A neatly organized school bag will make it easier for you to find your things and keep your homework clean. Sort and organize your school supplies in folders to make sure you only bring what you need. Organize your school bag. Take advantage of all existing pockets. Don't forget to clean and organize your school bag regularly so you don't carry rotten bananas or piles of pencil shavings.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Sorting Out School Needs
Step 1. Take out all the contents of your bag and throw it in the trash
Take out all the things from your school bag even the things you need. Make sure all pockets are empty. Throw away all trash, clumps of paper, used pencils, and expired bus tickets.
You can't organize your school bag if your bag is full of trash
Step 2. Collect the things you need to bring to school
If you're not sure, reread the list of needs your teacher gave you. Usually, the things you will need include:
- Book
- Binders or folders
- Pencil case
- Calculator (better with the container)
- Flash drives
- Lunch box and drinking water bottle
- Transport/ticket/card money
- Identification card
- House key
- Tissue, medical necessities
- Emergency money
- Personal needs (hand sanitizer, lip balm, make-up)
- Sanitary products (pads and tampons) if needed
- Sports equipment or uniform
- Mobile phone (if you have one)
- Laptop/tablet (if requested by your school)
Step 3. Put all the pens, pencils and other stationery into the pencil case
It's easier to pick up pens, pencils, or highlighters if they're all in the same case than if they're strewn about in your bag. Other things you might want to keep in your pencil case include a ruler, eraser, highlighter, colored pencils, markers, sticky notes, adhesive, scissors, glue, pencil sharpener, compass, and protractor.
Don't keep things you don't use in pencil cases. For example, you don't need to carry a highlighter with seven different colors if you only use one yellow highlighter
Step 4. Put the old papers in a binder and leave them at home
You don't have to carry paper for a school year every day. Buy large binders with labels for each class or accordion folders to keep your assignments organized at home. That way, when you start a new lesson, you can leave your old notes at home. You can access it if you need it again.
Saving old tests and homework will help you study for your final exams
Step 5. Store toiletries or sanitation in another pencil case
If you want to bring hand sanitizer or lotion to school, choose a small size and store it in a pencil case so it doesn't get stuck in your bag. The pencil case is also a good place to store sanitary products such as pads and tampons.
If you are afraid of confusion, buy pencil cases with different designs and colors
Step 6. Color code your school needs to keep it organized
Choose one color for each subject, such as green for Science, blue for Math, purple for English, etc. Choose a color that makes sense to you because people sometimes associate certain subjects with certain colors. The colors for a single subject in folders, notebooks, and binder labels should be the same. This method will make it easier for you to take the school supplies you need and store the papers in the right folder.
You can also use the same color to write your class schedule
Step 7. Sort the papers you have to bring to school into folders and binders
There should be no loose papers lying around in your bag because they will be tattered and hard to find when you need them. Organize your papers in one folder for each class, in one separate binder with labels for each class, or in separate binders.
If one system doesn't work for you, try another system. It's never too late to try a new styling system
Step 8. Clean your backpack again every week
Set aside one time each week to clean your backpack again. Even if you try to organize it for a week, cleaning your backpack regularly is very important to save any food or paper you might cram into in a hurry.
A good time to clean your backpack might be Friday afternoon when you get home from school or Sunday night when you're getting your school supplies ready for the new week
Part 2 of 2: Using All Pockets
Step 1. Put the book in the main pocket and put the biggest one in the back
Place the largest binder or textbook in the very back of the main pocket. Arrange folders, notebooks, and other binders next to the largest objects. You can organize your books by size or class.
If you take your laptop to school, place it in the very back of the main pocket in the laptop case
Step 2. Place lunch and clothes in the second largest pocket or in the main pocket
If your bag has two large pockets, the second pocket is a great place to store your lunch box and workout clothes. However, if you only have one pocket, you can put your lunch in it next to your books.
Make sure the lunch box is tightly closed to prevent food from spilling over other items in the bag
Step 3. Place the water bottle in the side pocket
Water bottles sometimes leak. So, it's better to put the water bottle outside the main bag. Side pockets will keep the water bottle upright and not shifting. If you put it in a side pocket, it will be easier for you to grab the bottle and drink the water.
If you don't have a side pocket, make sure the water bottle is tightly closed. Choose screw caps over pop-up bottles with spouts
Step 4. Place the pencil case and calculator in the medium bag
Since calculators and pencil cases are relatively smaller than notebooks, it's easier if you don't have to rummage through your main pocket to find them.
If your backpack doesn't have a medium pocket, put a pencil case and calculator in the main pocket
Step 5. Store valuables, such as money and phone in a small pocket on the inside of the bag
Store valuables in a small pocket on the inside of the bag so they are not easily stolen and are not damaged by hitting a book in the main pocket of your bag.
Put change in your wallet and don't let it get scattered in your bag
Step 6. Store small items that you want to grab quickly in the small pocket on the outside of the bag
This little pocket is a great place to store house keys, flash drives, lip balm, hand sanitizer, and other small items. If you put these things in the same place every day, you will find them easy.
If you have earphones, trim them by rolling them up and tying them with a hair band
Tips
- Do not put various kinds of paper in your bag. You'll have a hard time finding them and the papers will be crumpled and unusable.
- Take things out of your bag when you get home so you can get all the paper that's in them, then put them back together for the next day.
- If possible, store large items, such as your lunch, in a locker.
