We all don't like it when our eyes get puffy and red from crying. Fortunately, it's not difficult to get rid of puffy eyes because we just have to lie down and compress the eyes with ice. If your eyes are very puffy or you experience them frequently, a few changes in your lifestyle can help deal with it.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Treating Puffy Eyes
Step 1. Wash your face with cold water
If you're in a hurry or in a public place, try going to the restroom to freshen up your face. Fold the paper towels and soak them in cold water. Press these tissues over your eyelids, for fifteen seconds each. Lift your head up and place the tissue under your lower lashes and press the tissue gently for fifteen seconds for each eye. Wait until the eye skin dries. Repeat if needed.
- Do not rub your eyes or use soap.
- Some people treat puffy eyes by mixing about 1 tablespoon (5 mL) table salt in one cup (240 mL) cold water. Do not try this remedy if your skin is red and irritated.
Step 2. Compress the eyes with a cold towel
Wet a soft cloth with cold water. Squeeze the cloth and then place the cloth over your eyes for about ten minutes. The cold from this cloth shrinks the blood vessels so that the swelling deflates.
You can get the same result if you compress with a bag of cold peas. You can also make a cold compress by putting rice in a sock and storing it in the freezer. Do not use large vegetables because they can affect the shape of your eyelids
Step 3. Cover your eyes with a cold spoon
Choose a spoon that is the right size for your eyes. Chill for about two minutes by refrigerating for two minutes or in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. Place the spoon over the eye by slightly pressing it. Leave the spoon over your eye until it's no longer cold.
If you have time, try freezing six scoops. Replace a spoon that is no longer cold with a spoon that is still cold. Stop after compressing it with a third cold spoon
Step 4. Gently tap the eye
Gently tap the swollen part of the eyelid with your ring finger. This can stimulate blood flow so that blood that collects in the swollen area can flow elsewhere.
Step 5. Massage the bridge of the nose
Close your eyes and massage the top of your nose. Focus massage on the right and left of the nose where your glasses usually perch. This can relieve sinus pressure that can arise from crying.
Step 6. Lie down with your head elevated
Place two or three pillows under your head to keep it higher than your body. Lie down with your neck straight, close your eyes, and try to relax. By resting for a while, your blood pressure can go down.
Step 7. Apply a cold face cream
Chill the moisturizing facial cream in the refrigerator for about ten minutes then gently apply it to your skin. The coolness of the cream will soothe puffy eyes, while the face cream will soften and brighten your skin.
- Special eye creams provoke a lot of controversy. It is not clear whether this cream is more effective than regular face creams.
- Avoid creams that contain artificial or minty scents as they can irritate the skin.
Method 2 of 3: Prevent Puffy Eyes
Step 1. Get enough sleep
Even if your eyes are puffy from crying, other factors can make it worse. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep every night to reduce puffy or puffy eyes.
Children, teens, and adults need different sleep times. Try consulting a doctor to find out the recommended hours of sleep
Step 2. Keep your body hydrated
Salt that accumulates around the eyes can cause fluid retention so that the eyes become puffy. Try to drink lots of water to overcome this.
Reduce consumption of salt and caffeine which can make you dehydrated
Step 3. Treat allergies
Mild reactions caused by allergies to pollen, dust, animals, or food can cause the eyes to become swollen. Avoid foods that can make you itchy, swollen or uncomfortable. Take allergy medicine when you really can't avoid the source of the allergy. Visit a doctor for further advice.
Step 4. Visit an ophthalmologist
If your eyes are often swollen, there may be a reason. An optometrist can check your vision and may be able to prescribe glasses or contact lenses to reduce pressure in the eye. An ophthalmologist can examine your eyes for medical conditions.
Step 5. Take a break from screens of electronic devices and books
Try to take a break from your computer, phone, or book every twenty minutes. While resting, try to focus your eyes on something at the far end of the room. While eye strain is not the main cause of puffy eyes, it is highly recommended for general eye health.
Method 3 of 3: Evaluating Home Recipes
Step 1. Use a cold towel instead of a tea bag
Many people put a cold tea bag to compress the eye. This method is effective because of the cold temperature of the tea bag. Many people prefer to use black tea, green tea, or other types of tea. Many of these tea options have not been studied for their efficacy but according to existing studies, caffeine as the ingredient that is most likely to work effectively, does not seem to have any effect. Chances are, cold towels are just as effective as tea bags and are less likely to develop an infection caused by bacteria.
Step 2. Stay away from recipes that use food ingredients
Cucumber slices are often used to treat puffy eyes. This method is effective, but only because the cucumber has a cold temperature. It's a good idea to use a cold towel or bag filled with ice to reduce the risk of getting a bacterial infection from food.
If you want to treat puffy eyes with food, it seems the safest option is a rinsed cucumber. Don't use potatoes, egg whites, yogurt, and acidic foods like strawberries or lemon juice
Step 3. Keep your eyes away from irritating drugs
Some home remedies are not safe for use in the eyes because they can cause severe pain or damage. Do not treat swollen eyes with hemorrhoid cream (Preparation H), hot ointment or balm, or hydrocortisone.
Tips
- If you cry while you're still wearing makeup, remove the makeup with an earplug dipped in makeup remover. If you don't have a makeup remover on hand, you can use paper towels dipped in soapy water.
- Apply white eyeliner on your eyes to make your eyes less red.
- Cover puffy eyes with a brightening concealer, or a mixture of liquid concealer and liquid highlighter.
