There are many tutorials for making traditional Japanese origami cranes out of paper. Well, this tutorial will invite you to learn how to make a bird that can flap its wings.
Step
Step 1. Prepare a rectangular paper
To make your own rectangular paper: fold one corner of the rectangular paper diagonally to form a triangle; then cut the rest of the paper. You can use any size paper, but origami and A4 paper are the best choices.
Step 2. Fold the paper to form a big X in the middle
If you haven't already made one, fold the square of paper diagonally. Repeat in the other direction. Open the paper and you will see an X-shaped line.
Step 3. Turn the paper over
Make sure the slightly convex center of the X is facing up (like the top of a very short pyramid.
Step 4. Fold the paper to form a + sign
First, fold the paper vertically and horizontally to form a + sign that intersects the midpoint of the X. When you're done, the + crease will bend in the opposite direction of the X's crease.
Step 5. Lift all corners towards the center
Now the shape will be similar to the origami "clairvoyant" commonly used in children's games.
Step 6. Flatten the paper into a rectangle
Position the paper so that you get a rhombus shape with the open end facing you.
Step 7. Fold the top edge of the rhombus inward, parallel to the center line
Start by making sure that the exposed part is on the bottom.
- Take the right side of the top layer of paper and fold it in the middle. Then repeat this step on the left side.
- Turn the paper over and repeat the same steps on the layer.
Step 8. Carefully unfold all the folds you made in Step 7
Step 9. Pull the bottom corner of the rhombus upwards to open it
Press and flatten. Turn the paper over and repeat the same steps. Now you will have the shape of a kite.
Step 10. Hold this kite shape with the split ends positioned at the top, then fold each vertex pointing downwards and outward
Step 11. Fold the remaining kite layers (front and back) down
Step 12. Take one of the side points formed in Step 10, then fold the ends to form the head
Pull it down a little, turn the fold over, and bend it down.
Step 13. Curl the wings
Pull the wings outward, away from the body, then bend them with your hands.
Step 14. Make the bird flap
Grab and pull the bird by the neck and tail.
Tips
- The thinner the paper you use, the easier it will be to fold.
- The firmer and more precise the folds, the easier this origami bird is to make.
Warning
- Be careful with the sharp edges of the paper, don't scratch your fingers.
- Be careful when using scissors.
