Instead of waiting for a few days for your shoes to dry, you can dry them in a clothes dryer! Tie both shoelaces and hang them on the clothes dryer door. This can prevent damage to the clothes dryer and keep the shoes from making noise when drying. Remember, don't dry shoes with animal-derived materials, such as leather or suede, using a tumble dryer to prevent them from drying out or cracking.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using a Clothes Dryer
Step 1. Check shoe labels to make sure they can be dried in a tumble dryer
Look inside the shoe for a shoe care label. This label is generally located on the insole or tongue of the shoe. This label will generally tell you whether or not the shoe can be tumble dried.
For example, if there is a box with an X in it, don't dry your shoes in a clothes dryer. If there are circles in the box, you can dry the shoes on a low temperature
Step 2. Dry your canvas, cotton, or polyester shoes with a clothes dryer
If you can't find a shoe label, find out what material your shoe is made of. Shoes made of cotton, canvas, nylon, or polyester can generally be dried in a clothes dryer.
- Do not dry shoes with animal-derived materials, such as leather or suede, using a clothes dryer because high temperatures can dry out or crack the shoe material.
- Avoid drying shoes with sequins or other accessories using a clothes dryer.
Step 3. Tie your two shoelaces
Place the shoes next to each other and then prepare the shoelaces. After that, tie the two shoelaces until both shoes are tied.
Step 4. Hang the shoes in the clothes dryer and close the door
Hold the shoelaces and place them over the clothes dryer door and put the shoes inside. This can be done at the front door or over the clothes dryer. Continue to hold the shoelaces and then close the door so that the shoelaces are caught and the shoes hang in the machine.
- Position the shoelaces so that the ties are outside the machine. This can prevent the shoes from falling when the dryer is turned on.
- Some clothes dryers have special racks for drying clothes that can be loaded into the machine. You can put shoes on it.
Step 5. Turn the clothes dryer on to the air dry setting
If your dryer does not have this feature, choose a drying cycle with the lowest temperature. Dry the shoes on the lowest possible temperature so they don't shrink.
Step 6. Dry the shoes for 20 minutes then check
Turn on the clothes dryer and let the shoes dry for 20 minutes. After that, slowly open the clothes dryer door and take the shoes. Touch the inside of the shoe to see if it is dry or not.
If the shoes are not yet dry, hang them on the dryer door and then dry them again for another 5 minutes
Method 2 of 2: Preventing Damage to the Clothes and Shoe Dryer
Step 1. Do not put untied shoes in the clothes dryer
When untied shoes are put in the clothes dryer, they make a pretty annoying noise when they hit the inside of the machine. Avoid putting untied shoes in the clothes dryer as this impact can damage the inside of the machine and the surface of the shoes.
If the shoelaces cannot be clamped on the dryer door, you can put your shoes in a washing bag. Put the washing bag filled with shoes together with a towel so the shoes don't hit the walls of the machine when drying
Step 2. Dry the shoes naturally so they don't warp
Unfortunately, the temperature of the clothes dryer may change the shape of the shoe. Depending on the material and quality of the shoe, drying the shoe in a clothes dryer may cause it to warp or shrink. For best results, hang your shoes on a clothesline or place them on a rack and allow them to dry on their own for 1-2 days.
If possible, place the shoes in the sun to kill germs on the shoes
Step 3. Limit how often the shoes are machine dried
Shoes may not be damaged if they are not machine dried too often. However, the material and sole of the shoe may shrink or warp if they are machine dried too often.
If possible, dry the shoes in the sun or alternately using a clothes dryer
Tips
- If the shoe has a removable insole, take it out of the shoe before washing and drying it so it doesn't warp.
- Make sure the shoes are washed. You can wash your shoes in the washing machine and spin them so they don't get too wet when you dry them in the tumble dryer.
