Fake cuts can be an attractive addition to Halloween costumes, filmmaking, plays and other costume events. Using items you have at home, you can create a fake wound that looks so real, or make it a big project using make-up and even pieces of fake glass.

Step

Method 1 of 2: Making a Simple Fake Wound

Step 1. Apply red eyeliner on your skin

Draw a line on the area where you want to fake the wound, then rub the line with your finger. Add some dots around the area and then rub the dots too. Do it several times until the effect of blood splatter that has dried.

You can also use red eye shadow

Step 2. Draw the wound incision

Red eye pencil. In the middle of the bloodstained section you've previously made, draw a thin line.

Step 3. Use darker colors (optional)

You can add a dark brown or dark red line around the red line you've previously created to create a bigger and more gruesome wound effect. To avoid deforming the wound, gently rub the lines with your finger.

Step 4. Apply a clear lip gloss to the wound

Clear lip gloss can make the wound look shiny, so it looks as if your fake wound looks new and hasn't dried yet.

Method 2 of 2: Making Three-Dimensional Wounds with Sharp Objects Still Attached

Step 1. Protect the clothes and belongings around you

Do this in an empty space and cover the floor with newspaper. It's a good idea to make a fake wound, you're already in a costume. This is useful for protecting the wound area, which can be damaged when you put on or change into a costume (eg from rubbing against a cloth). If you make a fake cut to your face or neck, make sure you protect your costume with an apron to prevent dripping paint.

Step 2. Apply eyelash glue where you want it (optional)

Use a makeup sponge to spread the glue over the area you want to cut, then wait for the glue to dry. You don't have to worry about using eyelash glue on your skin because the glue can be removed (cleaned) using body oil (such as baby oil) or eyelash glue cleaning fluid. But if you don't want to use eyelash glue, you can skip this step.

Step 3. Make a fake leather layer using gelatin

Make sure the layer of skin you create is strong, especially if you want to insert a fake razor or have a tube filled with fake blood that can be squirted through your fake wound. Use gelatin and a few other ingredients to make a fake leather and follow these instructions:

  • Prepare some ceramic plates and a metal tray. Warm the dish in the oven on the lowest setting, until it is warm but not too hot to handle. Meanwhile, store the metal tray in the freezer.
  • Mix gelatin powder, water, and liquid glycerin (hand soap) in equal amounts. Make sure there are no sweeteners and other ingredients contained in these ingredients.
  • Heat the mixture in the microwave. Use a 5-10 second burst setting, until the mixture is evenly mixed. After removing it from the microwave, do not touch the mixture directly as it is very hot, which could injure you.
  • Remove the plate from the oven. Put on your gloves and then pour the gelatin in a thin layer onto the plate. Shake or turn the plate to spread the gelatin liquid as thinly as possible, then place the plate on a cold metal tray to let the gelatin cool down and create a thin layer that you can use as a fake skin.

Step 4. Cut the gelatin layer into fake skin

First, apply a layer of gelatin to the surface of your skin and before you can cut the layer, wait for the layer to harden. Then, use a butter knife or your fingers to tear the center of the layer and create a kind of cut opening. Do it slowly and carefully. Fold and thicken the sides around the opening to create a peeling skin effect.

For long cuts, make the opening long but narrow. For a wound that looks more gruesome, create a wide opening with a torn effect

Step 5. Apply red face paint on the fake wound opening

Use a paintbrush to apply the paint over the opening of your fake wound. Make sure you only use paint that can be applied to the skin. Using other types of paint can put you at risk of developing rashes (red rashes on the skin) or other serious health problems.

Even though there is a non-toxic label on the paint package, it does not mean that the paint is definitely safe for your skin

Step 6. Color your faux leather using a mixture of red food coloring and cocoa powder

Since you will only need a small amount of the mixture, make the mixture in a small glass (to be precise, a shot glass for espresso or liquor) or other small container. The end result will look like a wound with dirty blood, as if the wound has been exposed to dust and air for hours. Use a brush to apply it to the fake wound.

  • If your skin tone matches the fake skin tone you created, you can skip this step. However, to give it a dirty look, sprinkle some cocoa powder around the fake wound.
  • Add cornstarch or honey to thicken if the mixture seems too runny or too pale in color. You can also use this thicker, more concentrated mixture as fake blood in the following steps.

Step 7. Blend the wound with foundation (optional)

Use a makeup sponge, foundation brush, or your fingers to blend the foundation around your fake wound. Do it in a circular motion. You can use a foundation that is the same color as your skin tone, or even a little lighter.

If you don't have foundation, or if just using foundation doesn't look convincing, apply a mixture of cocoa powder and food coloring around your fake wound

Step 8. Add fake blood

By applying fake blood that looks wet to the fake wound opening, you can create a wound with a more sinister appearance. Also put fake blood on the fake skin around the wound opening.

  • Dip the earplug in fake blood. Apply and apply blood to the peeling skin around your fake wound and hold the earplug in an upright position.
  • Dip the toothbrush in fake blood. Hold the bristles of the brush with your finger and then move your finger toward the tip of the brush (keeping your finger on the bristles) so that the blood splatters around the area around your fake wound.

Step 9. Insert an object into your wound

To do this, make sure the gelatin shell you are using is strong enough to hold small objects. You can buy items such as fake glass shards, fake razors, or similar items at Halloween shops or discount stores (stores where the items sell for the same price). These objects can later be tucked into your fake skin so that it looks as if the object is stuck in your fake wound. You can also use broken chicken bones for a more terrifying effect. However, make sure you have cooked and washed them first.

Never use a razor or real glass shards, even plastic ones, as they can injure you

Step 10. Spray blood through your fake wound

To do this, you'll need a medical oxygen tube, which is usually sold in pharmacies, or an air tube, which is usually sold in aquarium stores. In addition, you will also need a squeeze bulb (a small rubber pump shaped like a light bulb) with a mouth that is wide enough for the hose. Fill fake blood into the squeeze bulb, then thread one end of the tube into the squeeze bulb through the mouth. You can hide the tube in your sleeve or under your fake skin, but make sure that one of the open ends is in the center (opening) of your fake wound. To squirt blood, you just need to squeeze the rubber pump.

When buying fake blood, make sure you check the label. Fake blood with a lighter viscosity can create a more dramatic blood spray effect

Tips

  • You can make fake blood yourself by mixing red food coloring, cornstarch or corn syrup, and water.
  • There are many fake wound makeup kits for sale on the internet or in Halloween shops. Several types of fake wound makeup that are sold contain the same ingredients listed in this article. Meanwhile, more expensive kits usually contain adhesives and ready-to-use fake leather products, so you can start using them right away. In addition, these equipment also usually provide a more dramatic wound effect.
  • If you don't want to stick anything in your fake wound, try making a fake skin using petroleum jelly (a mixture of mineral oil, paraffin, and micro crystalline wax) and flour. You can darken the color by using cocoa powder or charcoal powder until the color matches your skin tone. However, this fake leather comes off easily, so you need to be careful not to rub or touch the fake leather.

Warning

  • Do not use real sharp objects to insert into your fake wound as doing so can risk injuring you.
  • Making three-dimensional fake wounds may be difficult for beginners. However, with practice you will be able to adjust the shape of the fake skin better, so that the resulting wound shape will be more realistic and the edges of the wound will blend well with the surrounding skin.
