A good belt can last for years with normal use. To get the most out of a belt, you need to measure it properly. See Step 1 for more information about belts - it's really easy!

Method 1 of 2: Measuring Belt
Step 1. Take a belt that is the right size
Step 2. Place it on a flat surface such as a table or floor
Step 3. Take an iron measuring tape or fabric measuring tape
Step 4. Measure from the base of the buckle prong to the center hole
If you're not using the center hole, measure from the base of the buckle prong to the hole you use most often.
Step 5. Use the size you got to order the belt
For example, if the size is 34 inches (86.4 cm), then order a belt size 34.
- If you used the last hole in the belt, try increasing the belt size to 36 so that there will be room to fit the belt later. A properly fitting belt is usually measured from the center hole.
- If you are using the first hole in the belt, try reducing the belt size to size 32.
Method 2 of 2: Measuring By Waist Size
Step 1. Wear a pair of jeans or pants that you will wear frequently with a belt
Step 2. Loop the fabric measuring tape through the belt holes on the pants
Pin the two sides of the ribbon together when they meet at the front of the pants.
Step 3. Take a deep breath and exhale completely
The measurement on the measuring tape will be slightly wider.
Step 4. Check to make sure that the tape measure is in the center or bottom of the belt loop, not sticking to the top
Step 5. Measure the measurement in the mirror or mark the point where the two ends of the measuring tape meet the safety pin
Remove the tape from the belt loop on the pants and read the measurements.
Step 6. Add two inches to the resulting measurement
This last number is your belt size. For example, if the size is 38 inches (96.5 cm) you will need a belt that is 40 inches.
Tips
- Men's pants size is usually one size smaller than the belt size. For example, a 36-inch trouser waist would fit a 38-inch belt.
- Change your belt size to cm if needed. To find your belt size in cm, multiply the inches by 2.54.
