Many people wish to have long legs. While you can't modify your genes, there are a few tricks you can use to create the illusion of long, slender, sexy legs. Wearing bottoms with the right color can give the impression of longer legs. Plus, choosing your skirt length, waistline and shoes smartly can also help you create the look you desire.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Finding the Right Shoes
Step 1. Add more high heels or thick-soled shoes to your collection
One of the most obvious ways to make your legs look longer is to wear shoes that will make you taller. High heels will also force your feet to stretch, making your calves look longer and more shaped.
Avoid wearing high heels too often. Over time, high heels can damage joints and lead to chronic back pain
Step 2. Wear shoes in a color that is close to your skin tone
Shoes that blend into the skin will create long, unbroken lines when you wear a skirt or shorts. The plain color and the extra length of the legs will create the illusion of slender legs.
Step 3. Choose a shoe color that matches your pants or stockings
You can also create the same unbroken line by syncing your shoes while wearing leggings or trousers. For example, combine black leggings with black high heels. This monochromatic look creates clean lines as the eye looks up and down the leg without stopping.
Step 4. Avoid shoes with ankle straps
Horizontal straps can cause the viewer's view to stop too early, making the legs appear shorter. Ankle straps have the opposite effect of high heels and V-shaped shoes. If you like shoes with straps at the ankles, consider wearing leggings that are the same color as the laces to prevent splitting of the leg line.
Step 5. Wear long boots
Knee-high boots can create a clean, unbroken appearance from your lower thighs to the floor. Knee-length boots have the same effect, but not too much. On the other hand, ankle boots, cut the leg line just above the foot. Like ankle straps, ankle boots can make your legs look shorter than they really are.
This rule does not apply to ankle boots with a V cut, not a horizontal cut. V-cut ankle boots can make the legs look longer by extending the leg line down
Step 6. Choose pointed-toed shoes
Pointed shoes will lengthen your feet and legs in two ways. First, pointy shoes usually have at least a few inches of extra space which makes them physically longer than a round toe shoe of the same foot size. Second, the pointed ends also create the illusion that the legs (and of course the legs) are longer.
Method 2 of 4: Playing with Silhouettes
Step 1. Customize your outfit
The simplified silhouette will make you look taller, while extending the look of your legs. Clothing that doesn't fit can make the silhouette wider, making you look shorter. Meanwhile, clothes that fit will make you look slimmer. If you can't find the right fit at the store, take the garment to a tailor to have it repaired or learn how to change the hem yourself.
Step 2. Wear a monochromatic outfit
Try wearing clothes that are mostly or entirely of one color. When the entire garment is of one color, it will be more difficult for the viewer to determine where your leg starts and ends.
While any color can be applied for a monochromatic look that elevates the legs, a very dark color like black will make the most of the effect
Step 3. Cover the leg with a dark color
Black gives a slimming effect so that it makes the legs look longer. You don't have to always wear monochrome to get a black effect that makes your legs longer. Black leggings or straight cut jeans go well with any outfit.
Step 4. Add vertical stripes to the clothes
Vertical lines will pull the eye up and down, creating the illusion of being longer. It is this effect that makes vertical lines known as "slimming" patterns. Take advantage of this effect by wearing trousers, stockings, and skirts that have vertical stripes.
Vertical stitches, sharp creases, and vertical rows of buttons can create the same effect
Step 5. Choose a slightly shorter jacket
Short jackets can also help give the effect of lengthening the body as a whole. In addition, this kind of jacket also balances the longer upper body, making the legs look longer.
- While a short jacket will help make your legs look longer, avoid shirts that reveal your belly if you have a long upper body. Short tops make the upper body seem even longer.
- Jackets with slightly tapered ends, rather than horizontal ones, can also give the illusion of longer legs.
Step 6. Wear skirts and dresses of the right length
If you're trying to balance a longer upper body, an A-line skirt will make your waist appear taller and your legs longer. Empire-cut clothing is also perfect for this body type as it creates the illusion of a higher waist by shifting the focus upwards. This cut is also suitable for those who are small in stature because it can lengthen the silhouette of the body.
Step 7. Look for high-waisted trousers and skirts
The eye naturally assumes that the legs start at the beginning of the waist. By wearing high-waisted bottoms, the legs will appear to start higher at the torso. That way, the legs will look longer than they actually are.
Step 8. Tuck the shirt inside the bottom
Just as a high-cut waist makes your legs appear longer and your upper body shorter, a long shirt will have the opposite effect. So that the blouse does not make the legs look shorter, make sure you tuck it inside the bottom. Pair a tucked shirt with high-waisted bottoms to take advantage of the effect that makes the legs longer.
Step 9. Avoid low-waisted jeans
As you might expect, low-waisted pants have the opposite effect of high-waisted pants. These pants make the legs look shorter. If you're trying to display longer legs, avoid pants with a waistline that sag down to your hips. If you don't like clothes with high waistlines, don't go to the extreme opposite. Just wear simple trousers that hang at your natural waistline.
Method 3 of 4: Paying Attention to the Hems
Step 1. Make a high hem
One simple way to make your legs look longer is to show them off. Wear shorts or short skirts often. The shorter the pants/skirt, the longer the legs will look.
Step 2. Wear a skirt with asymmetrical hem
Straight and horizontal hems interfere with the view when someone looks at your appearance from top to bottom. Maximize the long impression that you can get by wearing an asymmetrical cut skirt. An asymmetrical hem will soften the shift and allow the eye to transition smoothly on the leg.
Step 3. Avoid skirts that are calf length
The calf is a large muscle so it tends to be the thickest part of the foot. If the length of the skirt reaches the calves, even the tallest person looks short. Instead, choose a skirt that reaches up to the wrist or knee or above.
Step 4. Consider wide pants with a low hem
Wide pants that fall to the top of the leg will make the legs look slimmer while creating an unbroken line that gives the impression of longer legs. On the other hand, shorter pants will break that line. Likewise, pants that are long enough to touch the floor will be too long and make you look shorter.
Method 4 of 4: Contouring the Feet
Step 1. Exfoliate your feet with a scrub or body wash
Just like you apply contours to the face, some people also use this technique to make their legs look longer and have a better shape. Before starting to apply the contour, you need smooth skin to work on. The scrub will remove dead skin cells and make the skin on your feet smoother, cleaner, and blemish-free.
Step 2. Moisturize the skin of the feet
Apply your favorite lotion to your feet. Moist skin on your feet is easier to treat than dry skin. A smooth, glossy finish like satin will also give the skin a more natural glow, creating a leg lengthening effect.
Step 3. Apply tanning lotion on the feet
Follow the directions on the bottle of your choice of lotion. Apply a thin layer of lotion on your legs evenly, focusing on areas near muscles and joints. Use an applicator glove when performing this step to get a more even finish and reduce smudges on your hands.
For a less permanent contouring effect, you can use bronzer or a slightly darker foundation instead of a tan lotion. When using a product like this, make sure you blend it into the skin well using your fingers in a circular motion
Step 4. Use a moisturizer that gives an “instant glow” effect or a glossy lotion for shine
Choose a second moisturizer that gives a brightening shimmer effect. Apply to areas of the leg that are normally exposed to natural light: along the shins and in the middle of the thighs, and around the calf muscles.
Tips
- Don't forget to check your appearance when wearing clothes in front of a full body mirror to make sure your legs look longer and support your body shape or not. If you are unsure of yourself, ask a family member or friend for an opinion.
- Consider the overall body shape when choosing the clothes you want to wear. For example, if you have big thighs, a miniskirt might make it look wider because it places a horizontal line right in the middle of your thighs. This length can make the legs look bigger instead of longer. Choose clothes that will enhance your overall body appearance rather than just focusing on your height.
