Keeping your diamond ring shining is easy and can be done with a few materials and household supplies. You may have heard that baking soda and toothpaste are good ingredients for cleaning rings, but they are actually very abrasive and could scratch your precious ring. Using a gentle, non-abrasive cleaner is a safer way of cleaning your diamond ring. Here's how.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Soapy Water
Step 1. Make a soap and water mixture
Drop a little dish soap into the bowl. Fill the bowl with warm water. Stir a little to produce a little foam.
- Use a mild dish soap, we recommend choosing a soap made from natural ingredients to avoid harming your ring with chemicals.
- A mild soap, hand soap, or shampoo can also be used. However, be sure not to use soaps that contain "moisturizers," as they can leave a layer of moisture/oil on your rings.
Step 2. Place your ring in a bowl of soapy water for 15 minutes
Allow the soapy water to soak into the ring. This will penetrate and loosen the dust and dirt that has accumulated on your ring.
Step 3. Take your ring and check it
If you can still see the build-up of dirt, you'll need to clean it further. If not, then you can simply rinse your ring with clean water.
Step 4. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the remaining dirt on your ring
Make sure you use a soft-bristled toothbrush, not medium or hard bristles, so you don't scratch the rings. Scrub the ring lightly, and insert the bristles into hard-to-reach crevices.
You can use a toothpick to scoop the dirt out of the crevices if necessary
Step 5. Rinse the ring with cold water
Step 6. Let dry
Place your ring on a tissue paper or clean cloth and allow it to air dry completely.
Method 2 of 3: Using a Quick Dip Cleaning Solution
Step 1. Purchase a quick dip cleaning solution that is intended for your type of diamond ring
Quick dip cleaning products are commercially available solutions designed to quickly clean jewelry. Different dip cleaning solutions are made with different chemicals specially formulated for gold, silver, or other metals. Be sure to choose a cleaning solution that is specified for cleaning diamond rings with the type of connection you have.
Step 2. Read the label of the solution package carefully
It's important to follow the quick dip instructions to every detail so you don't accidentally damage your ring. Read the instructions and make sure you are clear on how to use them before you proceed.
Step 3. Use a dip solution
Pour some of the dip cleaning solution into the bowl. Put your ring in it for the recommended time, and no more. Take your ring out of the bowl and let it dry completely on a soft cloth.
- Do not leave the ring in the solution for longer than recommended, or your ring may be damaged.
- Do not touch the diamond with your fingers until it is dry. Oil on your skin can leave an oil film on the diamond.
Method 3 of 3: Using Ultrasonic Cleaning Machine
Step 1. Choose an ultrasonic cleaning machine
It is a small machine that allows you to easily and safely clean your jewelry in a matter of minutes. This tool is quite affordable, and is similar to the type of cleaning machines used in jewelry stores. Look for a cleaning machine made by a well-known company.
Step 2. Fill the cleaning machine or washing machine with water and detergent
Most cleaning machines come with a metal container filled with water and detergent to clean your jewelry. Follow the instructions for use and fill the cleaning machine with the appropriate amount of detergent solution.
Step 3. Place the ring in the cleaning machine and close it
Make sure it is properly installed and properly closed.
Step 4. Pick up your ring after the recommended wash time
It should be clean in just a minute or two; do not leave it in the machine longer than necessary.
