Hair mousse (not a delicious chocolate mousse dessert, eh) is a styling product used to give hair extra volume and shine as if it were freshly washed. Mousse is lighter than most hair gels and pomades, so there are some advantages to using this product such as it will keep your hair limp and won't make your hair heavy. Mousse is great for both men and women, especially those with thin or fine hair that need added volume. To be able to apply mousse well and style your hair perfectly afterwards, read on!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Quick Style Men's Hair
Step 1. Wet your hair (or not, it's up to you)
Most men don't take the time to style their hair. It does not matter! With this method, you can apply mousse quickly so that your hair looks more attractive. Wet your hair if you want, but you don't have to. The wetter your hair is when you use mousse, the shinier and "wet" your hair will look when you're done styling it. So you can choose to wet your hair or not. If you choose to wet your hair, make sure the entire hair is wet. If your hair is drenched, dry it lightly with a towel or let it dry for a while naturally until it reaches the "medium" wetness you feel when you just get out of the shower and towel dry your hair.
- Mousse is a great choice for people who don't want to carry too many hair care products throughout the day because all it takes to activate the mousse is a splash of water, and after that, you can style your hair all day long.
- Mousse can also refresh thin hair.
Step 2. Spray a small amount of mousse into your palms
As with most aerosol bottles, hold the bottle in an upright position for best results. Start with a small amount - if it's not enough you can add later. The amount of mousse you need will depend on the length and thickness of your hair - for medium-length hair, try starting with an egg-sized mousse.
Using too much mousse can make your hair look shiny and limp, which may be good if you want a sleek look. But if you want to make your hair look more voluminous, use a little mousse
Step 3. Apply mousse to hair
Spread the mousse over both hands. Then comb the hair with your hands from the front of the head to the back. Pay special attention to the roots of the hair (the part of the hair that is at the base). Make sure all the mousse is applied evenly to the hair - using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb your entire hair feels "wet" by the product. You can also try to "tuck" the hair at the roots with your fingertips to make it rise.
For very long hair, the results may be better if you use the mousse with more direction. Read the previous steps above for tips
Step 4. Dry your hair
Use a hairdryer on a low heat if you want to style your hair up in the Ace Ventura style. Part hair with a comb so that the blow dryer can reach the roots. However, if you want a less uplifting hairstyle, you can let your hair dry naturally and then style it with your fingers.
- Your hairdo will hold on more strongly if you dry it with a hairdryer rather than letting it dry naturally. Hair that is left to dry naturally can be re-styled with your hands if needed later.
-
Give your hair a stylish touch as it blows dry. Most basic men's hairstyles require very little effort. Mousse is great for hairstyles that don't require a lot of staying power - if you want a drastic mohawk, try gel or pomade products. Here are some styles that you can easily try
- Comb the hair from front to back with your fingers to lift the hair and make it look fuller. This hairstyle to add volume is very useful for men who want to outsmart their thin hair.
- For those with thicker hair, shape the hair so it has a peak in the middle for a faux-hawk style.
- Boys with long bangs can try to style their hair to one side for a cool "Flock of Seagulls" look.
Method 2 of 3: Adding Volume to Girls' Hair
Step 1. Start by wetting your hair
Hair should be damp from root to tip, but not soaking wet until water drips off. Wet hair a little in the sink or under the shower. If you accidentally get your hair drenched, don't worry as you can dry it slightly with a towel.
Try applying mousse after showering. Your hair is already wet so you don't waste any more water by wetting it in the sink
Step 2. Apply mousse to the hair roots
Shake the bottle of mousse and hold the bottle in a vertical position as you spray. Part your hair and apply mousse to the roots of each section, starting at the nape of the neck and working your way up towards your head. Don't be afraid to spray the mousse straight from the can to the roots of your hair - as long as you don't overspray, the mousse is barely visible when it's dry. Spread the mousse over the root area with a finger.
- If you're in a hurry, you can turn your head so that your hair is hanging down and then apply mousse to your roots and work your fingers around the roots.
- If you have plenty of time, part your hair neatly and don't rush to apply mousse. The more and evenly you apply mousse, the more "lifted" your hair.
Step 3. Distribute the mousse evenly throughout the hair
Using your hands, apply the mousse to your hair so that it spreads evenly all the way to the ends. If needed, add mousse to the untouched ends. Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb or a soft comb to help spread the product.
Step 4. Dry with a hairdryer
As the mousse dries, the hair will stiffen slightly, giving your hair some volume and strength. Use a hairdryer on low heat to dry your hair. When drying, pay special attention to the roots of the hair. The more thoroughly you dry your mousse-infused roots, the stronger the product will hold your hairdo and the more volume it will give your hair.
- Try using a comb or brush to part your hair so you can dry the roots directly. For added volume, pull the hair at a ninety-degree angle from the head while combing it repeatedly in short strokes. Hair will be dry in a state full and volume.
- You can also dry your hair naturally. Drying your hair naturally won't give you as much volume as using a blow dryer, but your hair will look "wet" and shiny. You can brush naturally dry hair to make sure it stays smooth and tidy without ruining the volume and strength that the mousse gives you.
Step 5. Style your hair
With mousse, now your hair has volume and it's time to style it! It's up to you to choose what kind of hairdo. Here are some ideas you can try (and you can combine some of these ideas):
- Make the most of the volume the mousse provides by styling your hair in a raised, "bossed" hairstyle.
- Hair twist. Take a few sections from the sides and wrap them around a brush and then heat them with a hairdryer and let them cool. Remove the hair and let it flow.
- Take control of frizzy and unruly hair. If your hair doesn't respond well to moisture, apply a little mousse to your hair and then style as usual to control your unruly hair.
Method 3 of 3: Using Mousse Like an Expert
Step 1. Find out your hair type
Hair has different textures and thickness levels. Hair can be thick, thin, straight, curly, unruly, frizzy, dry, oily, or a combination of several hair types. Mousse is suitable for most hair types, but, because it doesn't provide long staying power, it can be difficult to style thicker and heavier hair with this product. Here are some tips for using mousse according to your hair type:
- Thin hair: Apply generous amounts of mousse to lift hair and add volume.
- Oily hair: Take a shower and wash your hair before applying the product. Leave the shampoo in your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off.
- Thick, coarse, or frizzy hair: Try applying a light, relaxing balm-type hair product to soften hair and control unruly hair.
- Fine and/or dry hair: Use a moisturizing mousse with added staying power.
Step 2. Know what kind of mousse is for you
There are different types of mousses. While mousse is generally suitable for almost any hairdo, some mousses with special formulas provide advantages for various hair types. Here are some types of mousse that you can find in salons or beauty supply stores:
- Mousse with extra hold or extra hold - for windy days or very unruly hair.
- Conditioning mousse or for moisturizing - to repair and style dry or damaged hair.
- Scented mousses - many of these products have a great perfume scent - choose one that suits your taste.
- Mousse gel - a combination product that offers greater durability to your hairdo without making the hair heavy as a result of using regular gels.
- Thermal care mousse - specially designed for use with a hairdryer or curling iron/curler.
Step 3. Make your own mousse
If you like to experiment, it's easy to make this product in great quality in your own kitchen! Crack two eggs, separate the whites into a bowl. Beat the egg whites with a whisk. When beating eggs, air is forced into them so that the texture becomes light and fluffy. Beat the eggs until fully fluffy. You can also use this egg white as you would a regular mousse. Apply egg white to your hair and let it dry a bit, then style your hair the way you like!
Don't worry - if you don't like the results or are bothered by having raw eggs in your hair, you can easily wash them off
Tips
- Mousse can be used on both straight and curly hair.
- Because mousse has a light texture and can add volume, this product is very useful for making thin, limp hair grow and look fuller. For thicker hair, different products like hair gel can hold the hairdo longer.
Warning
- Mousse is lighter than gel but does not keep the hairdo stronger. If the wind is very strong, try using a stronger hair product.
- Be careful not to get the mousse in your eyes, mouth, nose or ears.
- When blow drying your hair, be careful not to burn your scalp.
