Face masks can help turn a dry and dull face into a soft and bright one. You can make your own using basic, at-home ingredients, which are easily available or readily available in your kitchen. Read the full article to learn how to make four different types of face masks: pore-reducing masks, moisturizing masks, acne-reducing masks, and toning masks.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Making a Pore Reducing Mask
Step 1. Gather the materials
This mask works to reduce the appearance of facial pores using clay which will pull dead skin cells and other pore-clogging impurities from your skin while the mask dries. Go to a health food store and prepare the following ingredients:
- Bentonite clay, which will draw out the dirt.
- Oatmeal, which makes your skin feel as soft as a baby's skin.
- An essential oil of your choice, such as peppermint or lemongrass oil, for added fragrance.
Step 2. Mix the mask
Place 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay, 1 tablespoon of oatmeal and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Use a spoon or stirrer to mix it thoroughly.
- Add a few drops of essential oil if you want to feel the aromatherapy effect as well while the mask is working.
- Using the same ratio of each ingredient, you can make a larger number of masks and store the unused portion in a tightly closed bottle for future use.
Step 3. Apply the mask
Gently apply the mask on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Leave for 15-20 minutes, until completely dry.
Step 4. Rinse off the mask
Apply warm or cold water to your face to rinse off the mask. Pat your face with a soft towel to dry it, and apply moisturizer afterwards.
Method 2 of 4: Making a Moisturizing Mask
Step 1. Gather the materials
You can make a moisturizing mask with ingredients you probably have in your kitchen. Check your kitchen cabinets or head to the store to prepare the following ingredients:
- Honey, which has natural antibacterial and moisturizing properties.
- Olive oil or almond oil, both make your skin smooth, moisturized and supple.
- Apple cider vinegar is a natural toner that can also be used to freshen up your hair.
Step 2. Mix the mask
Put one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Use a spoon or stirrer to mix it thoroughly.
- Store any remaining moisturizing mask in a tightly closed bottle, and store it in the refrigerator until it's time to use it again.
- Add a teaspoon of plain yogurt or oatmeal for a softer face.
Step 3. Apply the mask
On a clean face, apply the mask liberally (plently or thickly) on your facial skin. Apply more on the driest areas, such as the forehead and bridge of the nose. Let the mask dry for 15 minutes.
Step 4. Rinse off the mask
Use cold water to remove the mask then use a toner. No need to moisturize again after that. Now your skin will be soft and fresh.
Method 3 of 4: Making an Acne Reducing Mask
Step 1. Gather the materials
Acne tends to appear during the most stressful times of your life. This mask soothes inflamed skin and is made of essential oils as well to soothe your mind. Head to the store to prepare the following ingredients:
- Lemon juice, which has natural astringent properties and refreshes your face. Buy a fresh lemon and squeeze the juice; Over-the-counter lemon juice may contain preservatives that are harsh on your sensitive skin.
- Honey, which softens the skin and relieves inflammation.
- Egg white, which brightens and tightens the skin.
- Lavender or rosemary essential oil.
Step 2. Mix the mask
Put 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 egg white, and a few drops of essential oil in a bowl. Use a spoon or small brush to stir until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- This mask is made of materials that are easily damaged. Therefore the remaining mask mixture should be stored in the refrigerator in a closed bottle.
- You only need a few drops of essential oil.
Step 3. Apply the mask
Apply a generous amount of the mask mixture on your face. Gently apply to the affected area. Don't rub it on your face, as you risk making your skin even more inflamed. Leave the mask on your face for 15 minutes.
Step 4. Rinse off the mask
Use warm or cold water to rinse off the mask, then pat your face dry with a soft towel. Follow up by applying an oil-free moisturizer to your face.
Method 4 of 4: Making a Refreshing Mask
Step 1. Refresh your face with egg white
Break the egg into two halves in a bowl. Move the yolks back and forth between the two shells until the egg whites are all collected in a bowl. Or you can also make a small hole in the end and gently remove the egg white until all that is left in the shell is the yolk. Once you get the egg white, apply the egg white to your face and leave it on for five minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
Step 2. Sprinkle apple cider vinegar
For a refreshing mask that can soften your skin as well, sprinkle a teaspoon or two of apple cider vinegar on your face and leave it on for five minutes. Rinse with warm water. Make sure not to leave any vinegar residue or you'll smell like vinegar for the rest of the day.
Step 3. Make an oatmeal mask
Mix a tablespoon of oatmeal with a tablespoon of warm water and apply it to your face. Let the mask dry for five minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Step 4. Rub your face with coconut oil
Ingredients that have a fresh scent will cleanse and moisturize your skin. Rub it on your face and leave it on for five minutes before rinsing your face with warm water.
Tips
- Find the face mask you want to try and add it all together. The four ingredients that make the perfect spa face mask are fruit, oil, oatmeal, and eggs.
- If you're going to spend time letting this mask dry and so on, take the time to take a warm shower, listen to relaxing music, put on a fluffy bathrobe, watch a movie about women, or anything else that makes your facial spa experience even more enjoyable.
- Add a drop of honey or a pinch of palm sugar for a sweet aftertaste (be careful, or you'll attract flies! Seriously).
- Another combination is to replace fruit (strawberries or bananas) with avocado and add eggs and oatmeal. Avocado is a natural moisturizer that will provide many benefits to your skin.
- After washing their face, some people tend to rub their face with a towel. Don't do this. Just pat your face dry with a towel to prevent redness of the skin.
- If you have long hair, you may need to tie it back before applying the mask.
Warning
- Rinse immediately if mask comes in contact with eyes.
- Don't eat your mask. This warning may sound silly, but since these masks are made from food ingredients, you might be tempted to give them a try.
- Don't use Quaker oatmeal, the kind that's commonly used! Oatmeal from this brand has a lot of added ingredients. Too many.
