Finally, you get the hair color you want! However, now your hair texture feels rough like straw. Luckily, you can still get the hair color you want with a soft texture. With the right products, the right habits, and a few ingredients available in the fridge, color-treated hair can feel soft again.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Restores Moisture to Hair
Step 1. Condition the hair after coloring
Usually, some hair dye products used are accompanied by conditioner. Otherwise, condition your entire hair using your usual conditioner, let it sit for at least three minutes, then rinse your hair with cold water.
- If the salon is done by a professional, it's a good idea to order a hair conditioning service afterwards.
- In general, paint products that come with conditioner often contain harsher and more damaging substances. Be careful when you want to use such a product and pay attention to the ingredients list of the product.
- After painting, wait 48-72 hours before washing your hair and if possible, don't wet your hair. Thus, the hair has time to recover.
Step 2. Get a deep conditioning treatment
In addition to regular conditioning, deep conditioning your hair once a week. If your hair roots start to get oily, simply apply conditioner to the ends of your hair. After a few minutes, rinse your hair.
Some conditioners do not require rinsing. For a product like this, simply dab or spray the product while your hair is still damp (after you're done showering). After that, you don't have to do anything else
Step 3. Use warm water first and finish with cold water every time you shower
Warm water opens hair follicles and cold water closes them again. In other words, warm water allows your hair to absorb the moisture that cold water would lock. Therefore, refrain from bathing in hot water. Your strands will feel softer and healthier afterwards!
Part 2 of 3: Caring for Healthy Hair
Step 1. Don't wash your hair every day
Shampooing actually makes hair dry so, if possible, don't wash it for a few days (this is why the ponytail was developed). When showering, curl your hair and protect it with a shower cap so it doesn't get wet. You can still take a shower even if you don't wash your hair.
- Everyone has different needs for their hair. Some people have to wash their hair once every two days, while others only need to wash their hair once a week. Observe the roots of the hair: if it is oily, wash it. Otherwise, take advantage of the extra free time you have to get ready in the morning!
- If you feel the need to clean your hair in the shower outside of a shampooing day, simply rinse and condition your hair.
Step 2. Use quality shampoo and conditioner products when washing your hair
Use a shampoo that is mild and does not contain sulfates. It would be better if the product used contains oil to treat and nourish the hair. Of course the products used must also be suitable for color-treated hair!
Focus on using shampoo at the roots, and conditioner at the ends. Conditioner is usually more oily. What you want is healthy ends, not greasy roots
Step 3. Determine the type of paint to use
By knowing the most suitable paint product for your needs, you can reduce hair damage.
- Bleach works to lighten hair color by removing pigment and causing damage by raising the hair cuticle so that hair is more prone to tangling. Conditioning your hair is important when you bleach your hair.
- Semi-permanent or temporary paints don't contain bleach, so they won't lighten your hair's natural color, but they're easier to work with and won't cause more serious damage. Since the resulting color only lasts for about 6 weeks, the paint will need to be used more often. Meanwhile, too often painting will eventually damage the hair.
- Permanent paint produces a color that lasts longer, but the ingredients needed (oxidizing agents and ammonia) do more damage to hair.
- Ammonia-free paints replace the ammonia in permanent paints with ingredients that are less damaging to hair. However, if used too often, the product will still damage the hair, just like regular permanent paint.
Step 4. Avoid using heat sourced styling tools if possible
Tools like this will only dry and damage the hair. Even if you need to sacrifice a beautiful hairdo, this step can still be done. Unruly sections of hair can be hidden in a ponytail and headband. Think of it as a short term solution to a long term problem. Therefore, avoid straightening your hair and styling your hair naturally for a few days. You can see improvements in the condition of your hair within a few weeks, unless your hair is really damaged.
When you have to, lower the heat on the curling iron or straightener and don't style the same section of hair more than once to give your hair a "rest." It's better for your hair if you don't use styling tools like that at all, but at least it's better than having unmanageable hair
Step 5. Cut hair regularly
For some people, ideally a haircut is done every 6-8 weeks if the hair is damaged. Since the ends of the hair usually suffer the most damage from hair dye, trimming is the best way to solve the problem at hand. In addition, hair cannot grow beyond a certain point in most people. Fortunately, cutting can be the right solution to rejuvenate your hair.
Step 6. Eat healthy foods to maintain healthy hair
Eat a balanced nutritious diet every day. Do you know what causes hair breakage in people who are on “strict” diets (even to the point of starvation)? The condition or health of the body is determined by the food consumed. If the body does not have enough nutrients to grow, of course the hair will not get enough nutrition. Therefore, make sure you get the intake of protein, zinc, iron, and all the vitamins and minerals. Thus, hair, skin, and nails will look better and healthier.
It's also a good idea to drink lots of water. Just as apple cider vinegar can clean hair, water can cleanse the body of toxins. The more awake body fluids, the healthier your body condition
Part 3 of 3: Using Homemade Hair Moisturizer
Step 1. Take advantage of eggs
The protein and lecithin content in eggs functions to moisturize hair from root to tip. In addition, eggs can also strengthen hair so it is not easily broken. Follow these steps to turn your breakfast ingredients into hair softener:
- Take three eggs and mix them with one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of coconut or olive oil. Apply the mixture on your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly and air dry it.
- Mix 120 ml of yogurt, 2 tablespoons of almond oil, and 2 beaten eggs to form a soft cream that you can apply to your hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes and condition your hair as usual.
- You can also use mayonnaise, but your hair will smell like a bakery afterwards.
Step 2. Condition hair with oil
Some of the best options you can try include olive, coconut, castor, and almond oils. You can also add a few drops of sweet-scented essential oil if you like. Pour a few drops of the oil into your palms, rub your hands together, then work the oil all over your hair. If you want, you can also warm up the oil in the microwave first.
- For better results, heat four tablespoons of oil on the stove. When it starts to get hot (but not too hot), remove the oil from the stove and pour it over your palms. Massage the oil into the hair thoroughly. Wrap the head with a hot towel so that all parts of the hair get maximum nutrition.
- Take advantage of coconut oil. Melt the oil in the microwave until it melts. Let the temperature drop until the oil is comfortable to the touch. Apply the oil that is still warm on the hair thoroughly. Let sit for 4-5 hours (or as long as desired). After that, rinse your hair thoroughly.
Step 3. Smooth the hair using honey
Apply honey to your hair and let it sit for half an hour before rinsing, or mix honey with avocado and egg to make a hair cream. Use this mixture as a deep conditioning product once a week.
As an alternative, you can also add the shampoo you normally use
Step 4. Mash the avocado and banana until soft
Bananas strengthen and maintain healthy hair, while avocados nourish hair and leave it feeling smooth and shiny. To enrich the mixture, add 1-2 teaspoons of any oil (you can use any of the oils mentioned earlier). Mix all ingredients, apply on hair, and leave for 30-60 minutes.
Step 5. Rinse hair with apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a home remedy for a variety of problems, although for hair health it acts more as a restoring agent than a moisturizer. Apple cider vinegar can restore the acidity or pH of your hair and remove synthetic products from your hair (which are actually not very effective). In general, apple cider vinegar is a cleaning agent for hair that is easily damaged.
