This wikiHow teaches you how to connect an external Bluetooth speaker to your iPhone so you can play music and other audio through it.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Connecting the Speakers
Step 1. Place the Bluetooth speaker near the iPhone
For Bluetooth to work properly, you must place the two devices close together.
If the speakers and iPhone are far apart, you may need to reconnect them
Step 2. Turn on the loudspeaker and enable ''pairing'' mode
Once the speakers are turned on, set them to "pairing" or "discoverable" mode, which is usually done by pressing and holding a button located on the outside of the speaker.
Check the speaker's manual for how to enable "pairing" mode
Step 3. Open Settings on iPhone
This gray gear-shaped app is usually on the home screen.
Step 4. Touch Bluetooth
This option is at the top of the " Settings " page.
Step 5. Slide “Bluetooth” to “On” position (to the right)
By doing so, the Bluetooth feature on the iPhone will be activated. The devices screen will show a list of devices that can be paired with iPhone under the " Devices " heading.
Speakers will be shown here. The name will most likely be a brand name, model number, or a combination of the two
Step 6. Touch the speaker name
Doing so will pair your iPhone and speakers. The pairing process can take a few minutes.
- If the speaker name is not in the list of Bluetooth devices, turn Bluetooth off and on again on iPhone to reset the list of devices.
- Some speakers have a built-in password. If you are prompted for a password after pairing, look up the password in the speaker's manual.
Step 7. Play audio on the Bluetooth speaker
Any audio you play will play on the Bluetooth speaker.
Part 2 of 2: Troubleshooting
Step 1. Make sure you are using a relatively new iPhone
iPhone 4S or later is equipped with Bluetooth technology. You won't be able to use iPhone 4 (and earlier).
You also can't use older models of speakers to pair with a new iPhone (e.g. 6S or 7) as this will cause sync issues
Step 2. Make sure your iPhone is updated
If your iPhone hasn't been updated to the latest version of iOS, you may have problems pairing it with the new Bluetooth speakers.
Step 3. Restart the Bluetooth speaker
Maybe you turned on the hardware too late while iPhone was searching for available devices, or maybe there's a bug in how it works. Try restarting the loudspeaker to see if this fixes it.
Step 4. Restart iPhone
It aims to reset the Bluetooth settings on the phone and make it reconnect. How to restart your phone:
- Press and hold the Power button on the side (or top) of the iPhone until it says slide to power down.
- Swipe the power icon at the top right of the screen.
- Wait a moment, then press and hold the Power button until the Apple icon appears.
Step 5. Take the speakers back to the shop for testing
If all of the above methods don't work, take your iPhone and Bluetooth speaker to the dealer's shop for an employee to check and fix the problem.
