MP3 players are now everywhere, including in smartphones. Most people are confused about how to control music covers that sometimes appear and sometimes don't. The following article will show you an easy way to organize music covers using the iTunes software so that each song will have its own attached image.
Step
Step 1. Identify all the music tracks on the MP3 player or cell phone that are NOT showing covers
You will notice that some songs already have covers, this largely depends on the original source or the format of the track.
Step 2. Create a new folder on the desktop
Step 3. Connect your phone or MP3 player to the computer, and look for the songs whose covers will be attached
When you connect your mp3 player to your computer, usually a window will appear asking what you want to do. If this happens select "open folder to view files", but if no window appears, go to "my computer" and look for your device under "devices with removable storage".
Step 4. Highlight each song that doesn't have a cover, and move it to the new folder that was created on the desktop
This will make a copy of the music file to your computer.
Step 5. Once all the songs are copied to the new folder, open iTunes and create a new playlist
You do this by selecting "File" then "New Playlist".
Step 6. Now select all the songs in the new folder and drag them to the new playlist in iTunes
Step 7. Start attaching the cover
With the music in this iTunes playlist, you're now ready to attach album art. You can do this for each song, or one album at a time.
- Right click on a song.
-
Select "Get info" then click the "Artwork" tab. Songs that already have a cover will display the cover image there. If not, press "Add" and then browse the computer to attach the image you like.
Keep in mind that if you don't have the album art on your computer (this is almost always the case), you can look it up online first
Step 8. Before doing this, first go to "My Computer", then the "My Pictures" file, then right click and select "New Folder"
Name this folder "My Album Artwork".
Step 9. Once the folder is created and ready to use, browse the internet for a specific album art or song
A place you can use to look for it is www.amazonmp3.com or Google's image search engine. Once you find the image you want to attach, right-click the image and select "save picture as". Then save the images in the new folder created under "My Pictures; My Album Artwork". Once the image is saved, you can return to iTunes and click "add" to locate the image in the "My Album Artwork" folder. Once the image is selected, it will be added to the mp3 file as an attachment.
Step 10. Note that by changing this in iTunes, the original mp3 file will also be changed
This means that the songs that were originally copied to the new folder at the beginning will also change. Once you've modified the album art for each song, simply grab the files from a new folder on your desktop and copy them to your MP3 player. A window will appear telling you that your device already contains a file with the same name. If this happens, click "Replace". This means that old music files in the MP3 player that don't have covers attached will be replaced with new, recently converted files that have album covers.
Step 11. Done
It may take a while for the MP3 player to recognize the new album art change. This is common with mobile phones, and has something to do with the processor.
Tips
- The window that pops up will show you a lot, but don't worry about anything but the little white square in the bottom right corner with the "Artwork" image above it. Just double-click this little box and browse through the "My Album Artwork" folder until you find the image you want, then click OK.
- After selecting all the songs, right-clicking and selecting "get info" will let the computer confirm whether you are sure you want to edit the information for some items. If this happens, click Yes.
- You must select all the songs at once to change the cover of the entire album. Do this by holding down the "Control" key on the keyboard while selecting the songs in the album.
