Maybe you're tired of being the same person every day. Maybe you can't feel attracted to something. Maybe you feel like you don't stand out. Whatever your reasons may be, fear not – if you want to be unique and original, you have to embrace his "and" lifestyle. Want to know how? Follow these instructions.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Having the Right Mindset
Step 1. Focus on the assets you have
If you want to be new and original, chances are that you're bored with yourself. If this is the case, that must change – “today.” Instead of thinking that you are a boring person who needs to change completely, try to think positively. Think of great things that can make you stand out, and with these you can make plans to become an original person.
- Think about your personality. Name three of your favorite traits. Are you funny, sarcastic and smart? Can you strengthen these traits?
- How about your appearance? Name three parts of your body that you like? How can you make it good so that you stand out even more?
- Throughout your life, there are bound to be people who compliment some aspect of your personality. What kind of personality stands out the most?
- Be honest with yourself. What do you like the most about yourself that most people don't realize?
Step 2. Stop thinking that you are boring
The next thing you have to do if you want to be unique and original is to stop thinking that you really have to change because you feel flat and boring. Instead, you have to think that you are an interesting person – it's just that a lot of people don't know it. If you want to get ahead in life, you have to try to increase your self-confidence. You have to love yourself, how you look, and believe that you have a lot to give to this world.
- Change comes from within. First, you have to think that inside you, you are an original person. Then, you can show that originality to the world. There's no point in trying to be original but you still think you're a boring person.
- Make a list of what attracts you. Keep writing until the page is full.
Step 3. Think about what you want to change
You've realized that you're not as boring as you think you are and you've increased your confidence a bit. However, there is still something to change, right? Does not matter. It's time for self-discovery so you understand what makes you a unique and original person. When you understand it, it's time to try to change. Here are things you might want to change:
- Maybe you think you look like everyone else and don't have your own style. Start shopping yourself and wear what you feel is right for you, not by following what other people are wearing.
- Maybe you think that you blend in easily at parties, classes, or anywhere else. Make an effort to talk to new people more often, hang out and joke around, give original opinions instead of just nodding off at what other people have to say, or even acting a little crazy (in a good sense).
Step 4. Be patient
There may be two or three things you need to change to make yourself stand out. Good. But can it be changed overnight? Probably not. If you come to school, look and act very differently, people will think you're trying too hard. Instead, walk in the direction you want slowly. This will make the change easier and make the process more natural.
- If you want to change your style, you don't have to go all out on Sunday to go to school on Monday. Instead, put new equipment in your drawers little by little until your appearance really changes.
- If you want to be a person who can speak up often, learn little by little how to speak in social situations.
- If you want to come up with an interesting opinion, start reading about things you care about, as opposed to making controversial comments that you can't defend against.
Step 5. Ask yourself questions
To be unique and original, you have to think for a moment where your norms, thoughts and opinions come from. Are you as liberal or as conservative as you think? Do you understand how people should behave in social situations? Do you know everything there is to know in your favorite school subject? When you can change your world and start seeing the old in a new perspective, it will become easier for you to be unique and original and start seeing the old in a new way.
- Talk to people who have a different view of yours. Listen to their opinion and don't fight it.
- Consider why you have that view. Is it because of the way you were raised by your parents, or because of the influence of the environment in which you grew up, or because of your association? How much of your view is objective? Not as much as you think, right?
- Whenever you have a strong opinion, take the time to write down the other side of it and why. This will allow you to understand your own opinion in a new way.
Part 2 of 3: Act
Step 1. Break your routine
Maybe you won't feel original because you've been doing the same for the rest of your life. So, it's time to change that. Start small. Eat a different breakfast. Go to bed an hour later than your usual bedtime. Take a different route to go to school. When you get comfortable, change to something bigger. Sit in a different lunch chair. Cultivate interest in new subjects. Spend your evening with new friends. See how these changes begin to affect your old habits.
- Of course some routine is necessary. However, doing the same thing every day is a factor that will make you feel like your old self.
- Forming new habits makes you see that being a new unique person is not as difficult as you might think.
- Even if you find a routine that works for you, don't be afraid to change it too.
Step 2. Get out of your comfort zone
If you want to be a new and original person, then don't stick with the things that make you feel very comfortable. You should try things that make you feel scared, unusual, confused, or a little intimidated. This doesn't mean you have to fight with knives or jump upside down from tall buildings, but you should try things you don't normally do, like going to parties without anyone you know or going to the movies alone.
- Make a list of things you are afraid of, such as climbing mountains or dancing in public. Ask yourself how much of that is really scary.
- Do something you are not good at. This will take the pressure off your success and will make you happy in the process. If you find out that you are a bad singer, enroll in a singing class. Knowing that you won't be able to sing like Whitney Houston will take some of the pressure off you.
- If you're really afraid to do something, like run 10 kilometers, train with a friend who is an expert. Doing something with someone who is an expert, even if you can't do it, will make you feel more comfortable.
Step 3. Go out
If you want to be new and original, at least you have to be friendly. Go out and introduce yourself to strangers. Volunteer to make the very first presentation in class. Sign up for talent shows at school even if you don't have a talent. Write something interesting and provocative on Facebook. No matter what you do, what matters is that you step out of your own shadow and feel comfortable being in the spotlight – or at least around him.
- If you're usually reserved in social situations, try talking 30% more the next time around. You don't have to dominate the conversation, but you should make an effort to talk more.
- Talk to new people. If you are afraid to do so, ask simple questions first.
- Enroll in an acting class. The class will make you feel comfortable to be yourself in front of the crowd.
Step 4. Surprise others
Part of being original is going against other people's expectations of you. If other people know what you are going to do and what you are going to say all the time, then how can you call yourself original? You don't have to act weird to surprise people, but you do have to make an effort to accentuate your surprise if you want to stand out from the crowd.
- Don't be afraid to be a freak. Do a goofy dance or tell an unfunny joke that will make people complain because they didn't expect the story to turn out.
- Annoy your friends once in a while. Make sure your interruption is successful.
- If you get used to getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things, people will be surprised when you tell them about your hard work.
- Go somewhere unprepared. Take a weekend trip or look for hidden jewels in your neighborhood. Be spontaneous as often as possible to keep others guessing.
Step 5. Find your own style
If you want to be a unique and original person, then you have to look like one. This doesn't mean you have to go bright neon or dye your hair pink – unless that's what you like, of course – to get attention. However, you should definitely look for hairstyles, looks, and clothes that are not your own. If you shop in the same two stores and look the same as your five closest friends, then you won't be original.
- Shop at stores you never go to. You will be surprised at how many great clothes you will find.
- Visit thrift stores to add unique items to your wardrobe.
- You know some of the clothes you see and then you say, “This dress looks great, but it won't fit me…” Why not? Now is the time to stop doubting yourself and give it a try.
- Get your clothes from as many different shops as possible. If you only shop at Macy's, it will be easier for others to follow your appearance.
Step 6. Find a completely new hobby
If you want to be original, then you must have a unique talent. Try something new that you don't think will appeal to you, such as salsa dancing or learning the violin. Learn Chinese. Become a yoga expert. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen. It doesn't matter what you do – what matters is finding a new passion. Having a passion for something different will make you unique.
- If you don't pursue your interests, then you won't stand out. You will become “someone who can speak Chinese” or “someone who is fluent in yoga” instead of “Someone who hangs out in the crowd”.
- Trying out a new hobby will get you to know new people, which may add some original perspective to you.
Step 7. Talk to new (good) people
Part of being a unique and original new person is being able to join in with anyone in a conversation. Talking to strangers – as long as you don't follow them when they offer you candy to get you in their car – will make you feel more comfortable with yourself. Talk to a wide variety of people, and be interesting, new, and original.
- Start small talk with beautiful women at the grocery store/supermarket in your area. The following week, try talking to the person sitting next to you in yoga class. What's the worst thing that could happen?
- Talk to people you don't know at parties. That's what parties are for, right? If you are shy, talk to other people when you are side by side with friends you know each other.
Part 3 of 3: Trying It Further
Step 1. Hang out with ordinary people
This is a sure thing. If you want to be unique, then you shouldn't spend your time with people who are unattractive and always have the same boring opinion. You also don't have to leave your friends to hang out with weirdos, but you do have to find people who have unique opinions and different perspectives on the world, so you can change your own perspective. Ordinary people can be found anywhere: in your home, in class, at work. Try to find people who see the world a little differently.
- When you find someone like this, ask lots of questions. Understand their opinion.
- The original person is not the one who stands out the most or has the most heard opinion. So get to know them.
Step 2. Form a provocative opinion
You don't have to form radical opinions to scare people or make you look like an extremist. Instead, you should do a lot of research; watch documentaries, read all kinds of newspapers and magazines, and talk to a lot of people before you jump to conclusions on your own. Then, when you feel comfortable with your own thoughts, start sharing them – with people who care about your thoughts of course.
- Don't jump to conclusions and state everything when you can't defend your thoughts. Do your research first.
- If you have the same thoughts as other people about some things, this is normal. Having normal opinions is sometimes better than having radical ones.
- Learn to have an educated debate instead of just fighting. You don't have to be stubborn to be original. Precisely original people will feel comfortable when listening to other people's opinions.
Step 3. Travel as often as possible
Of course this will be difficult to do with limited funds, but, if you have savings, make an effort to see what's new in the world. If you can't afford it, go out of town or do volunteer work in a foreign country. The important thing is that you can see how other people think and how they live; You get a bonus if what you see turns out to be different from the way you live your life.
- Make it a goal to go somewhere completely new once a year, even if your goal is just to get out of town.
- When you travel, ask as many questions as you can. Talk to the locals. Don't just be a tourist, try to get a lot of experience.
Step 4. Know the difference between being original and being weird
It's a good thing to be new and original – acting weird to get attention isn't a good thing. This may be similar. Some people are so original and unique that it seems strange that no one understands them; however, there are people who act strangely to get attention, and such a person looks like a copycat. So whenever you're trying to be original, make sure it's coming from yourself, not because you want to get someone else's attention.
- Wearing a cool bracelet you found in your grandmother's jewelry box is something original; wearing pink shorts to get attention can be seen as something odd.
- Telling other people something they've never heard of before is interestingly original; telling personal or disgusting things is weird.
- Expressing a unique opinion in class is original; making a strange sound when the bell rings is a strange thing.
Step 5. Keep yourself updated
Being unique and original doesn't mean just finding new original ways and keeping at it. If you want to be a unique and original person, then you must continue to seek knowledge. You can keep updating yourself. Always question your beliefs, make new friends and activities, and set a goal to always have a new perspective as often as possible.
- While confidence is the key to happiness, there's no such thing as being truly happy with who you are. Love yourself – but always want something more.
- This doesn't mean you have to be a liberal today and then a conservative tomorrow. Updating yourself is a gradual process.
Step 6. Don't care what other people say
If you want to be a person who is always original, then don't care about people who hate you. Sure there will be people who think you're weird because you're trying to be original, but is that worse than other people who think you're boring – or don't even think about you at all? Live your own life regardless of what other people do or think, and you will succeed quickly.
- Asking friends for advice is a good thing to do; however, questioning what you do just because ordinary people question you is not a good thing.
- Constructive criticism can make you a better person, but don't listen to negative criticism.
Tips
- Study and work hard. Achievements will make you feel good and look great.
- Be friends. Your friends don't have to share the same thoughts, hobbies, or philosophies. Just make sure you are comfortable with them.
- Forget about your crush. You may like him, but don't let yourself fall in love and be crushed by it, because Mr Bob there is not necessarily worth your love, especially if he doesn't pay attention to you.
