Have you forgotten your passcode or swipe pattern to access your HTC smartphone? Android has a built-in way to unlock a locked screen if you have the correct Google credentials. If that fails, perhaps the only option left is to reset the device to factory settings. In either case, you'll be able to access your phone again in just a few minutes.

Method 1 of 2: Sign in with Google Account
Step 1. Try the PIN or pattern five times
To bypass the password lock, you must attempt to enter it five times. Your phone will be locked again, and you will be given the option to log in using an alternative method.
Step 2. Tap "Forgot Password" or "Forgot Pattern"
This button will bring up the Google account login screen, which will allow you to sign in by entering the Google account credentials for the account associated with the phone.
If you are a Verizon customer, this method will not work. You have 10 tries, then the phone will be erased. You cannot unlock it using a Google account
Step 3. Enter your Google account information
Enter your Google account name and password. This must be the account that was used to set up the phone the first time. If you forgot your Google password, try recovering it by logging into the Google site on a computer.
Make sure you are connected to a cellular network or WiFi. In order to log in using this method, your phone must be connected to the internet. If airplane mode is enabled, press and hold the Power button until the Power menu appears. Tap the airplane logo to turn off airplane mode
Step 4. Set a new password
Once you are logged in, set a new screen lock password so you can safely lock and access your device again. You can do this by tapping the Settings app, selecting Security, then choosing to lock it using a PIN, pattern, or password.
Method 2 of 2: Resetting Phone
Step 1. Turn off the phone
To access the Recovery menu, you must start by turning off the phone. Press and hold the Power button until the Power menu appears. Tap the Power icon to turn off the phone. Resetting the phone will erase all data on it, and should only be used as a last resort.
If the phone freezes, you can turn it off by removing the battery from the back of the phone
Step 2. Open the Recovery menu
Press and hold the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Power button. Hold both buttons for about 30 seconds. Once the Android image appears, you can release the two buttons.
Step 3. Perform a factory reset (Factory Reset)
Use the Volume Down button to navigate to the menu. Select “Factory Reset”, then press the Power button to continue. The factory reset process will take a few minutes.
If you select Factory Reset, your data will be deleted
Step 4. Sign in and set up your phone
Once the factory reset is complete, you will be asked to set up your phone like a new phone. If you're signed in with the Google account previously associated with the phone, and you've enabled backup, your settings will be restored.
- You can re-download any app you've purchased through the Play Store as long as you're using the same account you used to make the purchase.
- Any contacts stored in Google Contacts will automatically be synced to your account.
