This wikiHow teaches you what to add to your Facebook profile to make your profile look authentic when you need to use it anonymously. As long as you don't mean to annoy or trick anyone, you can create a profile to stay up-to-date with events, get support, share recipes, and play games, without revealing your real identity.
Step
Step 1. Choose a name that sounds real or real
When choosing a name, imagine yourself as someone choosing a child's name. Think of a matching first and last name. Choose a name that is unique, but not too foreign or weird!
- The name chosen must not contain numbers, symbols, arbitrary capitalization, repeated characters, or odd punctuation, in accordance with Facebook's terms of use.
- Be careful not to use names from popular movies or television shows as using them makes the account look clearly fake (eg “Brad Pitt” or “Via Vallen”). Instead, choose the first name of a movie star and the last name of another movie star or public figure (eg Daniel Golding or Jennifer Sarasvati!).
Step 2. Upload a profile photo
If you leave your profile picture blank, other users will not believe that your account is real. The problem is, stealing other people's photos is illegal. If someone in the photo (or the photographer) finds out that you're using their photo without permission, you could be in legal trouble. Instead, try some of these ideas:
- Take selfies, but use enough filters to make your face less recognizable.
- Use cool nature photos, such as sunsets or underwater scenes.
- Animal photos! Everyone loves adorable animal photos.
- Take screenshots from movies, music videos, or cartoon shows.
Step 3. Complete the profile
People may look at your profile to find out who you really are. When choosing your hometown, current city, occupation, and education, the details filled in must be realistic.
- Choose your hometown and/or current city that you know well and can talk about. This is important, especially when you want to join a region-specific Facebook group.
- Make sure your age is appropriate for your job and education level! If you show 18 years of age in your profile, do not indicate that you already have a law degree from UI and are working at Hotman Paris' law firm.
- If you create an account just to play games or follow the news, you don't have to go through the hassle of filling out your profile, liking pages or adding friends. As long as your name and photo look authentic, you're good to go!
Step 4. Upload something to your timeline
If you're going to be interacting with other users, there's a good chance they'll look at your timeline to find out what posts you've uploaded, how long you've been uploading posts, and if anyone else is interacting with you as well.
- If you're creating a new profile, but want people to know that this isn't your first time using Facebook, try posting a status like “Back to Facebook!” or “Hurray! New profile!”
- Share YouTube videos, popular memes and news articles. Add comments to the content you share, even if the content is ridiculous. For example, you could add a caption like “This video is so funny!” or “How did this happen?!”
Step 5. Click Like ("Like") on interesting pages
You can find this button at the top of the page for products, media figures, celebrities, restaurants, and anything else. People who visit your profile can see a list of all the pages you like and use that information to find out who you are.
If you want, you can hide the “Likes” or “Likes” segment entirely from your profile
Step 6. Add new friends
Without your first friends, other users and groups you want to join may suspect that you are a suspicious user.
- Make new friends by visiting the Facebook page for movies, celebrities, or political views you follow. When you find someone you want to add as a friend, click on their name, then select “Add Friend” (“Add a Friend”).
- People may not accept your friend request without an introduction. Send a message first and say, for example, “Hello! I can understand and feel what you are telling on the wikiHow page. Would you be my friend?"
- If you feel comfortable, ask some friends in the real world to add your profile as their friend.
Step 7. Interact with other people on public pages
After creating a realistic Facebook profile and adding friends, who are you to use that profile as a new persona! When they click “Like” or “Like” a post from a celebrity or news source, friends will see your activity on their newsfeed page and realize that you are a real person. They'll also know when you upload something to those pages, so make sure you start or follow interesting chats on the pages of your favorite television show or news source.
Warning
- Using false information on profiles is a violation of Facebook's terms of service. If a Facebook user reports you, there is a chance that your profile will be deleted.
- Facebook's policies strictly prohibit bullying, threats, hate speech, and other illegal activities. Never use fake profiles to deceive or annoy others.
