The assignment system in Google Classroom allows students and teachers to quickly submit and check assignments. As a student, you can submit assignments in Google Classroom by logging into your student profile via Google Chrome and accessing the class list on the Classroom site. Teachers can create and share assignments with students by logging into their account via Chrome, then selecting a class and adding assignments via the class page.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Sign in to Google Classroom Account
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
To sign in to your Google Classroom account, you need to use an official Google browser.
Step 2. Sign in to the account on Google Chrome
Click the name (or human icon) in the top-right corner of the Chrome interface. You will need to sign in using your school's email address or student/teacher account information (eg "[email protected]"). Once done, click "Sign in to Chrome".
Step 3. Open the Google Classroom app
Click on the link provided to access the application. If you don't have the Google Classroom app installed on your computer, you can download it from the web store.
Step 4. Click the "Student" or "Teacher" button
Both are at the bottom of the page. Click the button that corresponds to your position. Google Classroom will redirect you to the appropriate page.
- Students will be directed to the class page and can join a new class or subject by clicking the "+" icon at the top of the screen.
- Teachers will be directed to a page that lists all classes/subjects taught.
- The students cannot log in to the teacher account.
Method 2 of 3: Doing Tasks
Step 1. Sign in to your Google Classroom account
The class menu will open and from that menu, you can select the class you want to access.
Step 2. Click the class or subject that contains the assignment
You will be taken to the class page.
Step 3. Click the task in question
The task page will load. You may be able to see a title related to the content of the assignment, a brief description of how to do the assignment, and/or an appendix, depending on the preference of the teaching teacher.
Step 4. Observe the task type to determine how to send it
Google Classroom supports several assignment formats, such as Google Forms and various types of attachments.
- If the assignment is given in Google Form format, simply fill out the form via a browser. Click " Turn In " after you have finished working on the task to submit the task automatically.
- If your task is more complex or complicated, click "Open Assignment". After that, you can view Google Drive attachments by clicking on them, attach files by selecting the " Add " button, specify the appropriate method, and create new attachments by clicking " Create " and selecting the file type.
Step 5. Click "Turn In" at the bottom of the page
Select the button only when you have completed the task. However, this procedure does not apply to form tasks as they already have their own " Turn In " button. After submitting the task, the status of the task will be displayed as " Done ".
Method 3 of 3: Creating Tasks
Step 1. Make sure you are logged in to the teacher account
Only teachers can create and share assignments.
Step 2. Click the class you want to send the assignment to
You will be taken to the respective class page.
Step 3. Click the "+" symbol
It's in the lower-right corner of the Chrome window. Once clicked, you will be prompted to add a new task.
Step 4. Click "Create Assignment"
A new task form will open.
Step 5. Enter the task title
The title should reflect the content of the assignment and the format of the completion of the assignment (eg “written”, “read”, etc.) to the students. If you don't want to add a title, skip to the deadline setting step.
Step 6. Add task hints
These instructions direct students to specific guidelines as they work on assignments. Make sure you relate the material to a related assignment (eg today's material).
This segment can be a great tool to inform the scoring criteria
Step 7. Set a deadline
Click the arrow next to "No due date", select "No due date", and select a date from the calendar. You may already mention assignment deadlines during class, but students will find it helpful to have deadline information, as well as a description of the assignment itself.
You can also add more specific deadlines (eg hours) to this segment
Step 8. Add topics if you want
You can add a topic by clicking the arrow next to " No topic ", selecting " Create topic ", and entering the desired topic name. Topics should reflect the material being studied currently in class. Thus, students will stay focused when doing assignments.
You can also select an existing topic from the menu
Step 9. Click the " Attach " button to add an attachment
This button looks like a paper clip. You have several attachment options available:
- Select the file from the computer, then click " Upload " to attach the physical document.
- Click the " Drive " icon (and not the " Attach " icon) to attach a document from Google Drive.
Step 10. Click "Assign" when done
Assignments will be uploaded to the class forum. Students will receive notifications on their feed or stream page regarding assignments.
