This wikiHow teaches you how to remove programs installed on a Mac computer. You can remove a program by moving it to the Trash or running a file or uninstall program (if the program came with it). Apps installed through the App Store can be removed via Launchpad.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Using the Trash. Program
Step 1. Open Finder
Click the Finder app icon which looks like a blue face.
Step 2. Click Applications
This folder is on the left side of the Finder window.
Step 3. Locate the program you want to remove
Scroll through the list of programs that appear until you find the icon of the program you want to remove.
If the program is in a folder, double-click the folder to open it and look for the removal application. If the folder contains a custom deletion application, move on to the next method
Step 4. Select the program icon
Click the program icon once to select it.
Step 5. Click File
It's in the top-left corner of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 6. Click Move to Trash
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu File ”.
You can also press the Command+Delete key combination on your device's keyboard to move the file to the Trash
Step 7. Click and hold the Trash icon
The Trash program icon appears in the Mac's Dock. After a few seconds, a pop-up menu will appear above the icon.
Step 8. Click Empty Trash
It's in the pop-up menu. After that, the content that was moved to the Trash, including the program that was recently moved, will be deleted. Now, the program is no longer installed on the computer.
Part 2 of 3: Using Files or Deletion Programs
Step 1. Open Finder
Click the Finder app icon which looks like a blue face.
Step 2. Click Applications
This folder is on the left side of the Finder window.
Step 3. Double-click the program folder that you want to delete
After that, the folder will be opened. You can see the uninstall program file or application in it.
If you can't find the uninstall file or application, select and remove the program in the usual way
Step 4. Double-click the removal program/file
After that, a new window will open.
Step 5. Follow the instructions shown on the screen
Since each program has different removal criteria, the steps to be taken will be different.
To complete program removal, make sure you tick the " Delete files " option if available
Part 3 of 3: Using Launchpad
Step 1. Launch Launchpad
Click the spaceship icon that appears in the computer's Dock. After that, a list of applications installed on the computer will be opened.
Step 2. Find the program you want to remove
You can swipe left or right in the list to find the program you want to remove.
Step 3. Click and hold the program icon
After a while, the icon will jiggle.
Step 4. Click the X button
It's in the top-left corner of the icon
If there is no icon " X ” is displayed above the icon after the icon wiggles, the program in question was not installed via the App Store and so cannot be uninstalled via Launchpad.
Step 5. Click the Delete button when prompted
After that, the program will be removed from the Mac computer.
Tips
- Some programs will leave folders containing preferences, files, or other data. You can delete these files from the “Library” folder.
- If you remove a program purchased through the App Store, you can reinstall it for free through the App Store.
