This wikiHow teaches you how to transfer music you've purchased from your iPhone to your computer using iTunes, as well as re-download music you've purchased to your computer.

Method 1 of 2: Transferring Music
Step 1. Make sure you have purchased the music you want to transfer
To move music from your iPhone to your computer's hard drive, you must have downloaded the music to your iTunes library on your phone.
Step 2. Connect iPhone to computer
Connect one end of the charging cable to the iPhone, and the other end of the cable (the USB end) to the computer's USB port.
If you're using an iPhone 7 charger (or earlier) with a Mac computer, you'll need to purchase a USB-C charging cable to connect your phone to your computer
Step 3. Open iTunes
This app icon is marked by colorful musical notes on a white background. The iTunes window will appear on the screen after a few seconds.
If you are prompted to update iTunes, click the “ Download ” and wait for iTunes to finish updating. You will need to restart the computer before proceeding to the next step.
Step 4. Click File
It's in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window (Windows) or the menu bar at the top of the screen (Mac).
Step 5. Select Devices
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu File ”.
Step 6. Click Transfer Purchases from [Your Name]
Instead of "[Your Name]", the iPhone's name will be displayed on the screen. Click this option to transfer the music to the computer.
Step 7. Wait for the purchased music to finish transferring to the computer
The transfer process may take a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the amount of music you want to send.
Step 8. Click Recently Added
This tab is on the left side of the iTunes window. After that, a list of newly added music will be displayed.
Step 9. Find the music you want to save
You'll need to scroll up or down the list to find the music you want to download to your computer.
Step 10. Click “Download”
This button is to the right of the song (or album) you want. After that, the music will be downloaded from iTunes to your computer so you have a copy of the music on your computer that you can use or play at any time.
- If you don't see the icon/button “ Download ”, the music file is already stored on the computer.
- You can open the music storage location/folder on your computer by selecting a song, clicking “ File, and select " Show in Windows Explorer ” (Windows) or “ Show in Finder (Mac).
Method 2 of 2: Re-Downloading Purchased Music
Step 1. Open iTunes
This app icon looks like a colorful musical note on a white background. If you accidentally delete music from your iPhone or iTunes, you can download it again as long as you're signed in to the account that used to buy the music.
Step 2. Make sure you are logged in using the right account
Click option Account ” at the top of the iTunes (Windows) window or the top of the screen, then look at the currently active account. The account must match the account used on the iPhone.
- If the account used is not correct, click the link “ Sign Out…, then select " Sign In ” and enter the Apple ID email address and password.
- If no account is in use/currently, click the link “ Sign In ” and enter your Apple ID email address and account password.
Step 3. Click the Account button again
After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Purchased
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu. After that, you will be taken to the “iTunes Store” tab.
Step 5. Click the Music tab
It's in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window.
Step 6. Click the Not in My Library tab
This tab is at the top of the iTunes page. Once clicked, a list of all the songs you've purchased (but not stored in your iTunes library) will appear.
Step 7. Click “Download”
It's in the upper-right corner of the song or album you'd like to re-download. After that, the song or alum will be downloaded to your computer again.
