This wikiHow teaches you how to edit documents on iPhone. You can edit Microsoft Office Word documents using the iPhone version of the Word application. If you don't have an Office 365 account, you can edit Word documents using the Pages app. You can also edit text documents via Google Docs on iPhone.

Method 1 of 3: Editing Documents Via Word iPhone Version
Step 1. Download and install the Word app
This app is marked by a blue icon and a page with the letter “W” in front of other pages. You can download Word from the App Store with these steps.
- Open the App Store.
- Touch the icon “ Search ”.
- Type word into the search bar.
- Touch “Microsoft Word”.
- Choose " Get ”.
Step 2. Open Word
You can open the app by touching the Word icon on the home screen, or selecting the "Open" button in the App Store window.
You need to be logged in to your account in order to edit documents. To sign in to your account, tap the " Sign In " button in the upper-left corner of the screen and type in your Office 365 account email address and password. If you don't have an Office 365 account, you can edit Word documents for free using the Pages app. Please read the second method
Step 3. Touch Open
You can open documents saved in online storage services or email attachments saved to your iPhone or iPad.
- To open a Word document saved in an online storage service, touch " Add a place ", touch " Cloud Service " and enter the desired service. After that, you can open the document from the service in question.
- To open a saved Word document from an email attachment, touch " More " and select the desired document.
Step 4. Touch the document text
The keyboard will be displayed on the screen.
Step 5. Type text using the keyboard
Use the keyboard to edit text. The “Bold”, “Italics”, and “Underline” keys are in the upper right corner of the keyboard.
Step 6. Use the row of tabs at the top of the window to edit the document
The row of tabs at the top of the window offers the following options:

“ Home:
This tab allows you to change the font, change the text and background color, add bullet lists or numbers, and align text to the left, center, right, or both sides.

” Inserts:
This tab allows you to add tables, images, shapes, links, quote boxes, and more.

” Draws:
This tab allows you to draw on a document using a stylus or Apple Pencil. There are several bookmark options available at the top of the page.

” Layouts:
” With this tab, you can change the orientation and size of the page, as well as add borders, columns, and page breakers.

” Reviews:
This tab has multiple spell check options, word count, comment tracking, and smart search.

With this option, you can change the print layout to a mobile view, and show and hide the ruler.
Step 7. Save the document
To save it, touch the paper icon in the top left corner of the screen and select " Save a Copy ", or tap the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen to access the main page and save all changes.
Method 2 of 3: Editing Documents Through Pages on iPhone
Step 1. Download and install Pages
The Pages app is a word processing application from Apple for Mac computers and iOS devices. The icon is orange and looks like a pencil and paper. You can download it for free on iPhone with the following steps.
- Open the App Store.
- Touch the icon “ Search ”
- Type Pages into the search bar.
- Touch the Pages icon.
- Touch the button “ Get ” next to the words “Pages”.
Step 2. Open Pages
You can open it by tapping the Pages icon on the home screen or selecting the " Open " button in the App Store window.
Step 3. Touch Browse
This second tab is marked by a folder image. A pop-out menu will open on the left side of the screen.
Step 4. Touch On My iPhone
This option is the second option under the " Locations " heading.
Step 5. Touch Pages
This folder is indicated by the Pages icon.
Step 6. Select the document you want to edit and touch Done
You can open a Pages or Word document through the Pages application. However, Word documents may not appear in the appropriate format on Pages.
Step 7. Touch the document text
The keyboard will be displayed on the screen.
Step 8. Type text with the keyboard
Use the keyboard to edit documents.
- Touch the arrow icon with a line in the upper-left corner of the keyboard to inline text or add tabs.
- Touch the name of the font in the upper left corner of the keyboard to change the type of font used.
- Touch the small “A” and large “A” icons on the keyboard to change the font size and bold, italicize, or underline text.
- Touch the stripes icon in the upper right corner of the keyboard to align the text.
- Touch the symbols on the right side of the keyboard to add comments, page breakers, column breakers, bookmarks, footnotes, or equations.
- Touch the paintbrush icon at the top of the page to change the font, font color, text size, paragraph style, and line spacing, and add bullets and lists.
- Touch the "+" icon at the top of the page to add pictures, tables, graphics, and shapes.
- Touch the "⋯" icon to share, export, or print documents, search for text, and change document settings.
Step 9. Touch
It's in the top-left corner of the screen.
Step 10. Touch Export
This option is the third option on the menu.
Step 11. Choose a format
You can export the document as a PDF file, Word document, Rich Text Format (RTF) file, or EPUB. After that, you will get the option to share the document.
Step 12. Choose a sharing method
You can send the document via email or message, or save it to the Files app.
Method 3 of 3: Editing Documents Via Google Docs on iPhone
Step 1. Download and install Google Docs
The Google Docs application is a word processing application from Google. Google Docs is indicated by a blue sheet of paper icon. Follow these steps to download Google Docs from the App Store.
- Open the App Store.
- Touch the icon “ Search ”
- Type Google Docs into the search bar.
- Touch the Google Docs app icon.
- Touch the button “ Get ” next to the text “Google Docs”.
Step 2. Open Google Docs
You can open it by touching the Google Docs icon on the home screen or selecting the " Open " button in the App Store window.
Step 3. Sign in to your Google Docs account
You need to sign in to your Google account the first time you open Google Docs. Tap the " Sign In " button in the lower left corner of the screen, and sign in using the email address and password associated with your Google account.
Step 4. Open the Google Docs document
The most recent documents will be displayed on the welcome page. You can also tap the folder icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to open the document from Google Drive.
Google Docs cannot edit a Word document. However, you can export documents written or edited in Word's.docx format
Step 5. Touch the pencil icon
It's a blue pencil icon in the lower-right corner of the screen. The keyboard will be displayed after that.
Step 6. Type text using the keyboard
Use the keyboard to edit and type text in the document. Take advantage of the buttons at the top of the screen to bold, italicize, underline, and strikethrough text. You can also change the alignment of the text, add bullets and numbered lists, and indent the text.
Step 7. Touch +
The "plus" button in the upper-right corner of this screen allows you to add links, comments, images, tables, horizontal lines, page breaks, and page numbers to the document.
Step 8. Touch the letter "A" icon with stripes on its right side
With this icon, you can modify the text. The "Text" tab allows you to change the font, font style, text size, and text color. The " Paragraph " tab allows you to change the alignment of the text, indent the text, insert bullets or numbered lists, as well as change the line spacing.
Step 9. Touch…
This menu allows you to review print layouts, document outlines, search and replace text, browse documents, count words, change page settings, view document details, and share and export edited documents.
Step 10. Share the document
Use the following methods to share documents.
- Touch the "…" button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Touch "Share & export".
- Select "Add people".
- Type the recipient's email address into the " People " line.
- Tap the paper airplane icon in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window.
- You can also enable the link sharing feature (“Link Sharing”), touch the “Copy Link” option, and send the link to people via email, text message, or instant message.
Step 11. Save the document
To save it, tap the tick icon in the top right corner of the screen. The document will be closed and saved afterwards.
