Method 1 of 2: Prepare to Teach
Step 1. Get to know your skills
You probably already know what your specialty is, but if you don't already, or if you have a broad range of skills, focus on one discipline or topic you like.

Being active in the knowledge or discipline you teach, based on a degree or other official documentation, or both, will help you gain recognition.
Participate in online forums, write articles for journals or other related publications, and volunteer as a guest speaker at seminars and other professional societies
Step 3. Consult a lawyer
If you want to be a tutor for schoolchildren, there may be rules and laws in your area specifically for this.
Step 4. Understand the curriculum
Make sure you know and understand the curriculum or syllabus that you will teach, so that you can maximize the effectiveness of your teaching planning.
Prepare your lessons and practice. You have to be very organized from the start. It is better to be over-prepared than to lack ideas during a teaching session
Step 5. Make your teaching sessions interesting and interactive
In good teaching, it's the students who do most of the work-you're just guiding him to find something.

Step 1. Make your name known
Becoming a private tutor can provide great satisfaction, especially if you are an expert in a highly sought-after field. Teaching in person is far more satisfying and effective than teaching online, but teaching online (via email or chat rooms) can make a little more money.
Step 2. Sign up for PayPal
If you enter this business alone, open a PayPal account to make it easy for your clients to pay in the most convenient way. Being able to accept payments via credit card can be the deciding factor in whether or not you get a client.
Step 3. Talk to the teachers who teach you in the subjects you plan to teach
Ask if they know students who are in need of your services.
Step 4. Advertise on Craigslist
But be careful when advertising on Craigslist-you don't want to be caught in a scam.
Step 5. Talk to people you know
Talk to your friends, parents, or siblings about your teaching services, and offer a discount if they tell their friends about your services, or volunteer as a tutor so they can test you and help you build a reputation.
Tips
- Read about various teaching techniques and choose a few that you can apply well and are useful.
- Many nonprofits are looking for someone to fill a teaching position on a voluntary basis (and will sometimes offer free or low-cost tutor training) who will help you gain experience as a tutor. This will build your teaching resume and help you get paid jobs later.
- Don't be a boring tutor, your students may not pay attention to what you have to say and it can make things worse.
- Learn in a fun way, draw pictures as you explain, and while reading, make different sounds that will make them laugh.
- Once you've qualified to become a tutor/teacher, advertise your services in places that parents will see. Parents are your clients.
- Hold regular exams to keep students active. This can help later on.
- Find out how much other teachers charge for teaching and charge similar prices.
- Be kind to your students!
- Try to let parents know about their progress. Never overestimate the abilities of the students, but at the same time encourage them. "His speed is better now", sounds better than "He plays like a concert pianist", but that's not true.
- Make sure you and your student have an agreement for the same goal.
Warning
- Avoid situations that could put the student or yourself in a dangerous situation. Hold meetings in public places or at students' homes only when their parents are at home. Always make sure there are other adults there.
- Setting a price that is too low or too high will make you look like you don't understand the competition, and will thus prevent you from getting the job.
- Don't get too emotionally attached to your students beyond just feeling good about their academic achievements.
- Making up facts to look smart may seem like a good solution at first, but it will turn around on your own eventually! Stay honest!
