For a tender roast pork with a sweet or savory taste, grill it over medium heat. The ideal parts of pork to be processed into roast pork are the loin, shoulder, deep hash and crown roast (the ribs are processed and served in the shape of a crown). The method of processing can be baked using the oven, cooked in a slow cooker or boiled in a "Dutch" oven. You can also process roast pork by following these steps.
Step
Part 1 of 5: Preparing the Pork for Grilling
Step 1. If the pork is frozen, leave it in the refrigerator to soften the texture of the meat
It usually takes 1 to 2 days to tenderize the meat, depending on the size of the meat.
Step 2. When the pork is soft enough, remove it from the refrigerator
Before seasoning, place the pork on a plate.
Step 3. Sprinkle salt and pepper and spread all over the pork
Part 2 of 5: Cooking Pork Until It's Brown
Step 1. Heat a skillet over high heat
Pour in 1 tablespoon (14.8 ml), canola oil or olive oil.
Step 2. Put the pork in the pan until it turns brown in color
Make sure both sides are cooked until lightly browned.
Cooking pork until it is brown in color aims to keep the meat liquid from running out quickly during the cooking process. You can use the oven or slow cooker for better results
Part 3 of 5: How to Cook
Step 1. Choose your preferred cooking method
There are so many ways to process roast pork, determine the right cooking method to get a delicious taste.
- For a lightly gravy roast pork, cook the meat at 325 degrees Fahrenheit (equivalent to 163 degrees Celsius) in the oven. The time it takes to cook 1 pound of meat (nearly half a kilogram) is about 35 minutes. Boneless roast pork will cook faster than boneless roast pork. Cooking the meat in the oven will form a crispy outer layer with the texture of roast pork that is not so moist.
- For a tender roast pork, cook the meat in a slow cooker. Cook the lightly browned pork in the slow cooker for about 6 hours on low. Cut a large roast pork into several pieces. Do not use too much sauce when cooking using a slow cooker, unless you are using a crock pot.
- Cook roast pork in a Dutch oven on the stove. You can add all the ingredients including the gravy until it boils. When it boils, lower the stove temperature and cook on low heat for 2.5 to 3 hours.
Part 4 of 5: Seasonings and Other Ingredients
Step 1. Once you have decided on one of the cooking methods above, prepare one onion and cut it into pieces
This recipe can be changed depending on the method of processing the roast pork you choose.
Step 2. Slice 2 to 3 apples
Combine the chopped onion and apple slices in a toaster, Dutch oven or slow cooker.
Step 3. To flavor the pork, add 1 cup (237 milliliters) of beef or chicken stock during cooking
Step 4. Add 1 to 2 cups (237 to 473ml) of apple juice, apple cider or other fruit juice
Combine cup (118ml) beef stock and cup (118ml) apple juice if you're using a slow cooker. Cooking in a crock pot keeps the meat moist, if it's too moist it will make the roast pork a bit gravy
Step 5. Add other seasonings, such as 1 bay leaf, or 1 tablespoon (2.1 grams) chopped sage, thyme or rosemary leaves
Use half the recipe if you are using a slow cooker. The longer the cooking process, the stronger the taste will be
Part 5 of 5: Tips for Cooking Roast Pork
Step 1. To give the meat flavor, position the fat side up on the grill, so the fat melts and soaks into the meat
Step 2. Use a meat thermometer to check if the inside temperature of the roast has reached 160 degrees
According to experts, pork is safe to eat at 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3. Temperature measurement using a meat thermometer is not accurate if the thermometer touches the bone
Step 4. Before slicing, let the pork rest for 15 minutes
Wrap the pork in aluminum foil to keep it warm.
Step 5. For a smoother taste, slice the roast pork against the grain
Step 6. Make the sauce using gravy made from a grill, slow cooker or Dutch oven
Pour into skillet and simmer over high heat until reduced by half. Sprinkle evenly over the roast pork pieces.
Step 7. Done
Tips
Adjust the cooking method with the part of the roast you buy. The slow cooker is perfect for cooking parts such as the shoulders, as the slow cooker can tenderize tough meats. Due to the low fat content of the crown and waist, it is best to cook it in a Dutch oven or baking pan
