Who doesn't love to snack on roasted pistachios? In addition to having an amazingly delicious taste, roasted pistachios also have a variety of health benefits, making them suitable to be mixed with lettuce, cookies, bread, or even eaten straight. Don't have an oven? Don't worry because the truth is, pistachios can also be roasted in a pan. Before roasting, make sure the nuts have been removed from their shells. Then, roast the peanuts until they turn light brown in color and give off a very delicious roasted peanut aroma. If you wish, the nuts can also be seasoned before roasting to enhance the taste!
Step
Method 1 of 4: Baking Pistachio Nuts in the Oven
Step 1. Bake the beans in the oven to save time
If you want to roast more than 120g of beans, we recommend using the oven instead of a skillet. In particular, the large enough space in the oven allows you to roast a large number of beans at once.
Place the oven rack in the very center. If you want to use two baking sheets, place them on separate racks so that the heat in the oven has more room to circulate
Step 2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius
Generally, most ovens take about 15-20 minutes to get really hot.
Step 3. Place raw peanuts on a flat baking sheet
Make sure the beans do not overlap each other so that they cook more evenly.
- If you want, please line a baking sheet with parchment paper to make it easier to remove the nuts once they are cooked.
- If the number of nuts is too much, please roast them in two pans.
Step 4. Roast the beans for 6-8 minutes or until the aroma comes out
Place the baking sheet filled with nuts into the preheated oven, and don't forget to observe the condition of the beans as they bake. Halfway through the roasting process, i.e. in the third or fourth minute, stir the beans so that they cook more evenly. The beans should be roasted to perfection in a maximum of 8 minutes.
- The beans are fully ripe when the surface color turns light brown, and when the characteristic aroma of the very fragrant roasted nuts has been smelled.
- If you want, you can also split a nut to make sure the inside is cooked through. In particular, the inside of the ripe beans should have an even, pale brown color.
Step 5. Let the beans cool down
Ideally, the beans should be allowed to sit for 15-20 minutes until they have cooled completely. Then, put the nuts that are no longer hot in an airtight container, and keep them for 1-2 weeks.
Method 2 of 4: Roasting Peanuts in a Frying Pan
Step 1. Use a frying pan if you don't have too many nuts to roast
Just want to snack on some nuts or don't have a lot of nuts in stock? Try grilling easily and quickly in a frying pan!
Step 2. Heat a nonstick skillet on the stove over medium heat
If possible, use a skillet that is wide and with walls high enough to prevent the nuts from falling to the floor while roasting. Also make sure the pan you use has a non-stick coating to prevent the nuts from sticking to the bottom of the pan when roasting.
There's no need to spray the pan with cooking oil or grease it with butter because basically, roasting the beans on a dry frying pan is a more effective method
Step 3. Put the beans in the pan
Make sure the beans do not overlap each other so that they cook more evenly.
Step 4. Keep stirring the beans so that there are no charred parts
While the nuts are roasting, keep stirring with a spoon or spatula. If you wish, you can also shake the pan periodically to stir the beans, ensuring they are evenly cooked, and ensuring that the beans are not so hot that they risk scorching.
Step 5. Turn off the stove once the color of the beans turns light brown
Usually, the discoloration will occur after the beans have roasted for 6-8 minutes, although the exact duration will depend on the quality of your stove. When the beans are ripe, you will smell the delicious aroma of roasted peanuts.
Step 6. Let the beans cool down
Transfer the nuts to a serving plate until they have cooled. Then, place the nuts in an airtight container and consume them for up to 2 weeks.
Method 3 of 4: Preparing Pistachio Nuts for Baking
Step 1. Buy raw pistachios
Visit the nearest supermarket or modern market, and look for pistachios that are still raw and not added with any spices.
Step 2. Buy pistachios in bulk at wholesalers to save money
Basically, pistachios are nuts that can be quite expensive, especially if you buy them in small quantities. That's why it's best to buy pistachios in bulk at wholesalers to save money, especially if you're going to eat them quite often in the future.
Step 3. Remove pistachio shells
Look for the shell opening, which is generally located at one end of the nut. After finding it, open the shell with the help of both thumbs until you hear a cracking sound which indicates that all parts of the shell have been separated from its contents. Remember, pistachios are easier to roast once they have come out of their shells.
If the end of the shell is still closed or doesn't have a large enough opening, try biting into it as if you were trying to open a jar. However, don't bite the shell with too much force so you don't damage your teeth
Step 4. Roast the nuts with their shells if you want a more mild-tasting snack
If you don't like roasted peanuts that have a very strong taste, there's no need to remove the shell. However, be aware that the beans may not cook evenly if the shells are not removed.
If the beans are roasting in a skillet, removing the shell is a must because this is the only way the beans will cook evenly
Method 4 of 4: Seasoning the Pistachios
Step 1. Make roasted pistachios with a sweet taste with a smoky aroma
First, line the pan with parchment paper so that the nuts don't stick to the bottom of the pan when baking. Then, coat the nuts with the 20 tsp mixture. extra virgin olive oil, 20 tsp. melted butter, 1 tbsp. honey, 1 tbsp. brown sugar, 1 tsp. sea salt, and tsp. cinnamon powder.
- Bake the beans for 10 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. After 10 minutes, stir the beans once, then continue roasting for another 5 minutes until the surface of the beans is caramelized and golden brown.
- Remove the nuts from the oven and stir once. If you want, you can sprinkle extra sea salt on the top of the beans to enhance the aroma and flavor of the smoke.
- Cool the temperature of the beans, then store the beans in an airtight container. Supposedly, the beans can last for 1-2 weeks.
Step 2. Make roasted pistachios with a curry flavor
Prepare a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper, then place 350 grams of raw pistachio nuts on it. Then, mix in 1 tbsp. brown rice syrup, 1 tbsp. liquid coconut oil, 1 tbsp. lime juice, 1 tbsp. medium spiciness curry powder, tsp. sea salt, as well as 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper powder in a bowl; stir until all ingredients are well mixed. Then, pour the spice mixture all over the surface of the beans.
- Bake the beans at 150 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes. After 15 minutes have elapsed, stir the beans to give them a more even level of doneness.
- Remove the nuts from the oven and sprinkle the top with cane sugar. Allow the nuts to cool down, then place them in an airtight container. Supposedly, the quality of the beans will remain good for the next 1-2 weeks.
Step 3. Make roasted pistachios with a spicy taste
First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, then place about 500 grams of raw pistachio nuts on it. Then, mix in 1 tbsp. olive oil, tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cumin powder, tsp. cayenne pepper powder. tsp. black pepper, and 1 tsp. maple syrup in a bowl; Stir all ingredients until well mixed. Then, pour the spice mixture all over the surface of the beans.
- Bake the beans at 150 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. After 15 minutes, stir the beans so that the level of doneness and the spread of the seasoning is more even.
- Remove the beans from the oven and cool. Once they have cooled down, store the nuts in an airtight container, and refrigerate them for up to 2 weeks.
