There are several opinions as to how and when buffalo sauce was invented. Regardless, this hot sauce has become a standard part of appetizer menus at restaurants across America.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (118 ml) hot sauce
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup (78 to 118 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp. (8, 1 g) chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. (0.6 g) smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp. (1, 2 g) sweet paprika
- 1/4 tsp. (1.5 g) salt
- 1/2 tsp. (1, 2 g) onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. (1, 3 g) cayenne pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp. (2, 4ml) honey
- 1 tbsp. (8 g) corn flour
- 1/2 tsp. (2.5ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp. (0.3 g) garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. (3 g) celery salt
- 4 tbsp. (59 ml) unsalted butter
- Wings/other food to serve

Part 1 of 2: Mixing All the Ingredients
Step 1. Choose your favorite chili sauce
You can use Fred's, Tabasco and Crystal. Choose foods that use buffalo sauce, such as buffalo chicken wings, hamburgers, sandwiches, or salads.
You will need at least 1/2 cup (118 ml) hot sauce
Step 2. Put 1/2 cup hot sauce in a bowl
Make sure the bowl is large enough to accommodate the remaining ingredients.
Step 3. Stir in the hot sauce and rice vinegar
Keep stirring until the two ingredients are combined.
- Add chili powder, smoked paprika, sweet paprika, salt, onion powder and chili powder.
- Mix honey and cornstarch.
- Add Worcestershire sauce.
Step 4. Add the last two seasonings
Add garlic powder and celery salt.
- If you want a different taste, add other spices like 1/4 tsp. (0.6 g) oregano and/or white pepper. Other recipes even add a little beer to it.
- For a sweeter sauce, you can add 4 tbsp. (47 g) brown sugar.
Part 2 of 2: Making Buffalo Sauce
Step 1. Heat the pan on medium high heat
Use a saucepan that can hold all of the hot sauce and other ingredients.
Step 2. Put unsalted butter in a heated pan
Let it melt.
Step 3. Add a bowl of hot sauce and spices
Mix the butter and other ingredients thoroughly with a whisk or wooden spoon.
Step 4. Heat the pan to a low boil
Step 5. Turn on the heat with a low temperature
Let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 6. Pour the sauce over the wings or other food
Coat your food with this sauce. Serve immediately.
