Instead of spending money paying people to install the blinds, why not do it yourself? With the right tools and a little help from wikiHow, you can install blinds in no time.

Part 1 of 3: Measuring and Determining the Place of Installation
Step 1. Measure your window
This must be done so that you do not choose the wrong size of the blinds. Use a tape measure to measure windows. You can install the blinds inside or outside the frame. If you hang the blinds on the outside, the windows (as well as the blinds) will look bigger. Installing blinds on the inside of the frame makes the window look smaller. Inside blinds can also let more light in through the gaps in the blinds.

Measurements for off-frame installation: Measure along the edge of the window sill. Measure the exact length from the top to the bottom of the jamb (or to the threshold if you have one).

Measurement for mounting in the frame: Place the meter on the inside of the frame, where the glass and frame meet. Measure the width of the windows at the top, middle, and bottom. If there is a size difference, then use the smallest size as a benchmark.

Step 2. Buy blinds based on your measurements
There are various types of blinds that you can choose from vinyl, PV, aluminum, wood; and the choice depends on your taste.
If you are planning to install aluminum blinds for a child's bedroom, make sure the blinds you choose are made from lead-free coatings
Step 3. Mark the place of installation
Take the blinds out of the box and make sure all the parts are complete. If it has installation instructions in it, just follow along with the steps from here. You will need pencil marks to attach the blinds.

For outdoor installation: Lift the blinds so that the head (top of the blinds) is centered and level/parallel to the window frames (vertical sides of the window frames). Mark with a pencil the section just below the rails on either side of the frame. You should mark approximately 0.6 cm from both ends of the rail.

For inside installation: Place the rail inside the frame. The blinds should align with the window handles, even if the windows are not. Mark with a pencil under the rails at each end.

Part 2 of 3: Installing the Sunshade Feet
Step 1. Open the legs of the blinds and hold them in place
Place the foot of the blind in line with the pencil mark you made. There are two sides of the blinds open--one side opens to face the window and the other towards you. The door of the blind leg must be open facing into the room.
If the legs of your blinds are difficult to use, try opening them with one finger and with the help of a screwdriver
Step 2. Mark the place to be drilled
With a pencil, mark the spot that needs to be drilled for the pilot hole (preferably two holes). It is better if you make two diagonal holes so that the legs of the blinds are stronger. Remove the blind leg and slide it sideways so that the holes align.

For outdoor installation: The foot of the blind must be placed outside the window frame.

For indoor installation: The foot of the blind should be placed on the right and left corner of the window.

Step 3. Make a hole for the nut with a drill
Each sunshade leg is always equipped with two (or more) nuts. If you're making holes in wood, use a 2-inch diameter drill bit to make a hole slightly smaller than the nut you will be using. Remove the nut and make a hole in it.
If you drill holes in drywall, plaster, concrete, ceramic, stone, or brick, use an appropriate nut, anchor, or plug and follow the steps according to the instructions on the package
Part 3 of 3: Installing the Rails and Blinds Cover
Step 1. Fix the adjusting wood in place
This wood adjuster serves to attach the rail cover to the rail. This cover covers the entire rail and makes it look more decorative. The adjustment wood must be installed on the front side of the rail before the rail is inserted into the blind leg.
Your blinds may consist of slats like stairs. If so, install each adjustment bar before the top edge of each slat--not just above. If the fixing wood is placed directly above it, it can get caught in the blinds cord
Step 2. Place the rails onto the foot of the blinds
When you're done fixing the blinds in place, make sure the blinds are wide open, then insert the rails into them. If it is installed, close the door of the blind leg. A “click” sound will be heard.
Step 3. Install the rail cover
Place the rail cover along the rail in the position you want. Place it on the wood setting. When you think it's in the right position, gently press down on the adjuster so that it clamps down on the rail cover and holds it in place.
Step 4. Install the sunshade pull lever
If your blinds are equipped with a pull lever to open and close the blinds, but are in a separate package, install them now. Push the plastic hook up, insert the end of the pull lever into the hook, then pull the plastic cover back down.
Tips
- Always read the instructions for the blinds you buy.
- Ask someone to help hold the blinds during installation. If you've never handled a drill before, ask someone who can use it for help.
