Part 1 of 3: Determining the Belt Size
Step 1. Select several pairs of pants that you want to wear with a belt
Look at the label on the pants to find out the length of the waist circumference. For example, if the label says 30 x 32 inches (76 x 81 cm), then your waist is 30 inches (76 cm).
Step 2. Determine the length of your waist circumference using a tape measure if the label on your pants is missing or the waist measurement is not listed in inches
Loop the measuring tape in the center of your torso right at the navel. Look at the number of measuring tapes that meet each other to find out your waist measurement.
- Use a mirror to make sure that the tape measure is straight when you are measuring.
- If you are a woman who likes to wear jeans slightly below the waist, take a measurement a few inches below your waist.

Step 3. To determine your belt size, add 5 cm from your waist measurement
The length of the belt is measured from the buckle to the buckle hole. This will give a little space for a few different styles of clothes.
If your waist measures 30 inches (76 cm), then your belt length is 32 inches (81 cm)

Step 1. Choose a belt that has a width of 2.5 to 3.8 cm
This type of belt is usually used by men for work clothes and casual wear. Belt sizes that are wider than this are considered very informal and may not fit the waistband around your pants.
Step 2. Match the color of the belt with the shoes you are wearing
Brown, light brown and black are the colors that are often used. These colors are also the color of the leather.
- Generally, the color of a man's shoes and the color of his belt should match.
- Women may prefer to match shoes, belts and accessories or use contrasting colors instead.
Step 3. Choose a buckle that has a lock, unless you choose a military style belt or a braided belt
The buckle lock slides the metal into the holes on the belt to lock it. On military-style belts, the lock is usually used by sliding.
- Military-style belts are usually purchased in standard sizes and then resized at home. Don't forget to heat the seal with fire after you're done shrinking the belt.
- Braided belts don't have holes, because you can slip the lock into the braid.
