Everyone knows that nail polish / nail polish will leave stains on the surface. However, it's hard to resist the temptation to polish your fingernails on the comfort of the couch or paint your toenails on the floor. If you accidentally cause a nail polish stain to your carpet, wood, sofa, or other surface, don't panic. Most likely, you can solve the problem with something available at home.

Method 1 of 5: Remove Nail Polish from Walls
Step 1. Start with rubbing alcohol
Pour some rubbing alcohol on the green side of the sponge (rough surface). Then, rub it directly on the nail polish, being careful not to touch the surrounding paint. Use small circular motions when scrubbing.
Step 2. Keep scrubbing
It may take a few minutes to scrub the stain (carefully) before you can remove it. During this process, add alcohol to the sponge if necessary.
Step 3. Finish with soapy water
If you have removed most of the nail polish stain, clean the area and any residue with liquid dish soap and warm water. Dampen a soft cloth with the mixture and gently scrub the walls until they are clean.
Step 4. Dry the wall
Once the polish has been removed, use a soft cloth to dry the walls.
Method 2 of 5: Removing Nail Polish Stains on Fabric
Step 1. Scrape off the nail polish
If possible, try scraping the polish off your clothes with a putty knife or a regular knife. Do not use a cloth to wipe it, as this will only make the stain worse.
Step 2. Use nail polish remover
Do a spot test before you use it, as nail polish remover can affect some dyes and fabrics (it can even melt acetate).
Perform a spot test on the inside of the fabric that is not visible
Step 3. Try rubbing alcohol
Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly on the nail polish stain, then gently dry it with a clean cloth. You have to press it firmly and quickly. Don't wipe off the stain, as this will spread the nail polish and push it further into the fabric.
Step 4. Rub the clothes with baking soda
Baking soda is very effective at removing nail polish and doesn't damage the fabric. Wet a clean cloth and dip it in the baking soda. Then, gently press on the stain. Press firmly and quickly as you do so.
Step 5. Wash clothes immediately with water afterward
After cleaning the nail polish stain with a cleaning agent, clean the stained area with water to remove any nail polish residue.
Wash clothes in a washing machine if possible. Otherwise, wash the clothes by hand. You should gently press the stained area with a clean cloth and warm water
Method 3 of 5: Removing Nail Polish on Carpet
Step 1. Never scrub up spilled polish
Your first instinct might be to grab a towel and rub off the nail polish stain, but don't do that. This will only push the polish further into the fibers of the carpet and spread it across the carpet. It's best if you scrape it off with a plastic putty knife, a spatula or a regular knife. Then, gently press the stain with a clean cloth.
Step 2. Try a glass cleaning product
This solution is most effective for dark colored carpets. Wet the stained area with glass cleaner, then press down on the carpet with a clean cloth until the polish is removed.
Step 3. Gently press the stain with the liquid nail polish remover
This method is best suited for light or white colored carpets and should not be applied to dark colored carpets as it can discolour the carpet. Pour a small amount of acetone-free nail polish remover onto a clean cloth and press down on the carpet until the stain lifts.
Make sure you use a liquid nail polish remover that doesn't contain any dye, as it can discolor the carpet
Step 4. Try using rubbing alcohol for dark carpets
Pour rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth, then gently press on the nail polish stain. Don't stop, do it until there is no more color to lift with the cloth.
Step 5. Use vinegar as a natural cleaning agent
Vinegar is very effective at removing nail polish stains from carpets. You can simply pour a little vinegar into a spray bottle, then spray it on the stained area. Then, use a clean cloth and warm water to press down the stain until it's clean.
Method 4 of 5: Removing Nail Polish on Wood and Laminate Surfaces
Step 1. Carefully scrape up any spilled polish
Use a plastic putty knife to remove excess polish from the wood veneer or laminate. You should be able to remove the nail polish easily. Otherwise, dampen a cloth with warm water, and apply it over the stain for 30 seconds. This step will soften the nail polish.
Step 2. Use denatured alcohol to remove nail polish stains
Pour the denatured alcohol on the cloth and gently rub it into the stain. Don't rub the stain too hard for a long time as this can dissolve the paint or varnish on the wood. You should always scrub in the direction of the wood grain, not against it.
Step 3. Try steel wool for stubborn stains
If you use #0000 grade steel wool, you can scrub the stain without damaging the wood. You just need to do it carefully and rub gently in the direction of the wood grain.
Method 5 of 5: Removing Nail Polish on Floors and Tiles
Step 1. Remove nail polish stains on the floor surface
For granite, cement, concrete, brick, sandstone, tile or similar surfaces, you will need a soft brush and some cleaning product to remove the spilled polish.
Step 2. Remove excess polish immediately
Take a plastic putty knife, or something with a flat, hard edge to scrape off as much of the polish as possible. Scrape slowly so as not to damage the floor surface further.
Step 3. Use acetone
Take a clean cloth and dip it in the acetone. Then, press the nail polish stain with firm pressure until the stain lifts.
Step 4. Clean the stain with a soft brush
Make a cleaning solution of baking soda and water and use a soft brush or sponge to remove any remaining polish. Once you are satisfied with the result, clean the stained area again with warm water.
Warning
- Do not use liquid nail polish remover on wood surfaces. It will only make things worse! While you can remove nail polish stains, the varnish will be damaged.
- Don't forget to do a spot test on your clothes or carpet if you want to use any cleaning solution.
