Part 1 of 3: Creating a Chat Through Omegle
Step 1. Visit the main Omegle page
Getting started with Omegle is super easy - all you need is an offline connection! To get started, visit Omegle.com. here you will find many options to interact. Next, we'll cover the basics of starting to chat with strangers. Before you start a chat, note the frequently used terms at the bottom of the main page. By using Omegle, you must meet the following requirements:
- You are 13 years and over.
- You have been approved by your parent/caregiver if you are less than 18 years old.
- You may not use obscene material or use Omegle to harass other users.
- You will not behave illegally in accordance with applicable laws in your country.
Step 2. Choose a text or video conversation
Near the bottom right of the main page, you'll find a message that says “start chat:” with two options below it - “text” and “video” which will allow strangers to see your picture or hear your voice (and vice versa).. Choose any option you like to start chatting.
Note that, for video conversations, you will need to fully use the webcam and microphone. Most modern computers are equipped with a built-in microphone and webcam on the monitor, though not all. If your computer does not have these features, you may need to purchase the necessary equipment (see the article on setting up a computer's webcam and microphone for more information)
Step 3. Start the conversation
When you select the conversation option, you will immediately connect with strangers. You can communicate by typing a message in the chat bar and pressing the enter key or clicking on “send” at the bottom right. If you select video conversation, you should be able to see and hear the stranger and yourself in the video window on the left side of the screen.
If you select video chat, you may get a pop-up message asking for permission to use your camera the first time you connect. Click “Yes” or “Okay” to activate your camera and start a video conversation
Step 4. When you finish the conversation, click “Stop”
When you're tired of chatting with strangers, click the button at the bottom left of the screen that says "stop". This button will change the text to "really?". Click one more time to confirm and end the conversation.
- At any time during a conversation, you can immediately press this button twice to end the chat. This is especially helpful, for example, when you're displaying content that you don't want to see.
- Note that it's very common for Omegle users to end a conversation very quickly (even before each other has messaged). Try not to take this too seriously - some people like to look around for a lot of strangers before choosing one to talk to.
Part 2 of 3: Using Additional Features
Step 1. Type in the field you like to meet people with similar tastes
If you return to the main omegle page (which you can do at any time by clicking “Omegle” at the top left of the screen), you can try adding keywords to a box under “What do you want to talk about?” that describes your likes and interests. After this, click on “text” or “video” and Omegle will try to connect you with strangers who want to chat about the same thing.
If Omegle can't find a subject similar to yours, it will connect you with other strangers as usual
Step 2. Keep conversation notes of fun conversations
From time to time, you may experience a conversation via Omegle that is fun, funny, or enlightening and wants to save it! Don't bother with copying - instead, use Omegle's chat log exporting feature. After you disconnect the chat, you will see an orange button that says “Great chat?” with a selection of links. Click “get a link” to open the chatlog in a new window or click “select all” to highlight all the text so you can easily copy it.
You'll also see links to Facebook, Twitter, and some other social media. Clicking on one of these links will take a full format of your conversation to the desired site - perfect for sharing fun conversations
Step 3. Enter your school address for student conversation
Omegle has its own private chat room for students. To access this conversation, you need to click the button that says “College student chat” on the main Omegle page, then enter an active email address that ends in “.edu” into the text box.
While you are doing this, you will need to check your email to receive a verification letter from Omegle. Once you have verified your email, then you can use the student chat service
Step 4. try spy/question mode
Sometimes, it's fun to watch or hear strangers chat about a subject you love! To do this, click on the little button at the bottom right of the main page that says “spy (question) mode”. You will be directed to an open space for discussion. When your question, then click “ask strangers” to see what other people have to say!
Alternatively, if you want to answer questions, you can click on the “discussing questions” link below. Note that, in this mode, if your partner disconnects, the conversation will also end, so type your answer as soon as possible
Step 5. Try adult/unmoderated conversation (if you are over 18)
There's no manners in it - some people come to Omegle for sexual conversation. If this is what you enjoy, try clicking the “Adult” or “Unmoderated Section” link on the main page. The rest is up to you - this is personal responsibility!
It might be obvious, but it should be stated clearly: in both adult and unmoderate modes, you "will" see adult pornographic content. Take it at your own risk
Part 3 of 3: Wearing Good Etiquette on Omegle
Step 1. Don't take it too seriously
Omegle is a place for strangers from all over the world to meet, share stories and make friends. While this site is meant for that, it often doesn't live up to expectations, so don't take everything in Omegle too seriously. Because Omegle users are anonymous, they usually don't hold themselves to high standards (note that this is behavior in the online community that has been observed). If you are insulted, berated, or feared, fear not - just disconnect!
Step 2. Do not type or display information
As with any anonymous online experience, it's important to take precautions to protect your identity on Omegle. Never share your real name, location, or personal information with a stranger on Omegle, even if you have a friendly friendly conversation. You never really know who you're talking to, so play it safe and stay anonymous. While many Omegle users are good people, friendly and welcoming, those who are “bad” can sometimes be predators or disease.
If you're using video chat, make sure your camera isn't showing anything exploitable. This includes financial information, identification documents, house characteristics, address information, and so on
Step 3. Avoid immoral material in non-adult conversations
Omegle has designed a section for adult conversations, so this is why you want to use Omegle, keep your adult content where it is allowed. Don't type sexually explicit material into the conversation window or show it on video. This kind of behavior not only goes against the spirit of Omegle in the non-adult section, it also annoys other users, who don't want to see it (if they wanted to, they would have been in the adult conversation section).
It's also worth noting that Omegle conversations outside of the “unmoderated” section are, as you might expect, also restricted. While Omegle doesn't reveal the intent of this, there may be human moderators and/or automated programs to keep the program away from pornography or obscene material beyond the “clean” section
Step 4. Be nice to new users
Omegle is for everyone - even people who don't know how to use it. Now that you're an expert on Omegle, take the opportunity to help other users who don't understand the content on the site. For example, if your friend's video chat feature needs help, instead of disconnecting, it's better to tell him to click “yes” in the popup prompt (or give him a referral on how to set up the webcam).
Be patient - even though they are slow to learn, you are helping to make Omegle a friendlier, more welcoming place for you to spend time
Step 5. When in doubt, don't be afraid to disconnect
If something goes wrong with an Omegle conversation - like, for example, if your conversational partner is being mean and asking about personal things - feel free to double-click the "stop" button. With nearly 6.5 million monthly users, there are thousands of other people you can talk to, so don't waste your time with someone who doesn't respect you.
