Want to find diamonds in Minecraft, but don't know where to look? Maybe you need a diamond pickaxe to help get obsidian and go to the Nether or build an upgrade table. Diamonds are very valuable, so your task will be difficult, but still possible. The following tips and a little luck will help you maximize your chances of finding diamond ore quickly and mining it efficiently.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making an Iron Pickaxe or a Diamond Pickaxe
Step 1. Please note, to mine diamonds you need an iron pickaxe or diamond pickaxe
You can't mine diamonds with other tools, which means you'll need to make an iron pickaxe or a diamond pickaxe first. If you already have an iron or diamond pickaxe and want tips on finding diamonds, you can skip to the next step.
Step 2. Make a workbench or craft table if you haven't already
A craft table is made by placing a piece of wood in your crafting area to produce 4 planks of wood. These 4 wooden planks are then placed in the crafting area again to make a crafting table.
Step 3. Make a wooden pickaxe
On your crafting table, place:
- 3 wooden planks in a horizontal position on 1/3 of the grid
- 2 bars in a vertical position in the center of the grid
Step 4. Make a stone pickaxe
With your wooden pickaxe, dig four blocks underground until you find a smooth rock. Just mine 3 stones while making sure that you still have 2 sticks left. On your crafting table, place:
- 3 large stones in a horizontal position on 1/3 of the grid
- 2 bars in a vertical position in the center of the grid
Step 5. Create or find a fireplace
For your next step, you will need a fireplace. Fireplaces can be found in the countryside, or made using 8 large stones, placed around your crafting table.
Step 6. Make an iron pickaxe
With your stone pickaxe, start looking for iron ore. Iron ore can be found above ground and in caves. You only need to mine 3 iron ores.
In your hearth, smelt iron ore with coal to make ferrous metal rods. Or, you can turn an iron block into 9 iron bars
Step 7. Make an iron pickaxe by lining up the following materials on your craft table:
- 3 ferrous metal bars in a horizontal position on 1/3 of the grid
- 2 logs in a vertical position in the center of the grid
Method 2 of 2: Mining Diamonds
Step 1. Before you start, please note that diamonds can sometimes be found above ground level in chests
Chests can be found in the countryside or in old mining tunnels. Although diamonds can be found without mining, this method is usually less effective. Mining is a more efficient way if you want to get diamonds.
Step 2. Make sure you have enough supplies before going to mine diamonds
Your mission is to get diamonds, but to fulfill the mission, first you need some supplies. The following are things to bring with you when you dig underground for mining:
- Multiple torches (more than 100)
- An iron pickaxe, or a diamond pickaxe if you have one
- Weapons and armor, in case of a siege in the cave
Step 3. Know that diamonds can be found in layers 1 through 16
The distribution of diamonds is said to be the most on the 8th and 13th floors, with the 12th floor as the floor with the greatest possibility of finding diamond ore. Diamond ore blocks are in the form of small layers of 1 to 10 blocks. There is a chance that you can find more than 10 blocks that are close to each other if you are lucky.
Step 4. Make a ladder going down
To make it, make 3 high hole blocks, make the same hole starting from the center of the hole to one block below the lowest block in the original hole, and repeat. Keep doing it with the pickaxe and come back every 10 minutes to look for more food, put items in chests, and make more swords and pickaxes, etc.
Step 5. Arriving at the bedrock, dig around and find the bottom layer
The bottom layer is layer 0.
Step 6. Go up to layer 12 (1 block is 1 layer), and make a small room there
Build chests, craft tables, and fireplaces so you don't have to go back to ground level to make more tools..
Step 7. Start digging with a pattern
There are several digging patterns you can apply in order to mine diamonds efficiently. Here are some patterns that other players have used that have proven to work:
- Make one main rod that has a height of 2 blocks and a width of 1 beam moving in a straight direction for some time. Make small hands that start at the main stem and appear every 5 blocks. Dig your hand in a block with a height and width of 2 blocks.
- Travel in a straight line in 3x3 chunks until you hit the diamond ore.
Step 8. If you can, increase the luck aspect of your pickaxe when mining
Boosting your pickaxe with Luck will increase the diamonds you can get while mining. There are three levels of Luck that can upgrade your items.
Level I gives you a 33% chance to multiply your strokes to be 2 times stronger (average increase of 33%), while level II gives you a 25% chance to multiply your strokes to become 2 or 3 times stronger (75% increase on average), while level III gives you a 20% chance to multiply your hits to be 2, 3 or 4 times more powerful (average increase of 120%). Upgrades with Luck III level are extremely rare, so be prepared to only get Luck I or II when upgrading your pickaxe
Step 9. Dig around the diamond block before mining it
Diamonds are often in the vicinity of lava; when you mine it, there is a chance that the diamond will accidentally fall into the lava and be destroyed. Since diamonds are very valuable, when mining you should make sure they fall into your inventory and not into the lava.
Place blocks of rock, dirt, or gravel on top of the lava if you find a lava lake under diamond ore. That way, if the diamond falls it will not be sucked into the lava
Tips
- Make sure you bring plenty of torches and pickaxes as there's a good chance you'll run out.
- Stay alert for sieges.
- If you only find one diamond, mine it in a few blocks around because you might be in a corner.
- Bring a bucket of water in case you get burned by the lava. You can also use this on lava to get obsidian!
- Mining twigs is often considered the most efficient way to get diamonds
- Carrying a bucket of water is a good idea if you don't have enough time to go through your inventory and look for blocks. Buckets of water will help you if you reach the lava. Also, never look an Enderman straight in the face (this is another reason to carry a bucket of water). Enderman can't swim.
- Don't dig straight down because you can get hit by the lava and burn to death.
- When you're mining, make sure you don't get lost in the mines and also make sure you know your way back. Keep digging if you're desperate.
- Don't think that the Nether lies under the bedrock, for all that is down there is only air!
- Don't put logs on the lava as that will only burn it.
- You can also find gold near the bedrock.
- Also mine red rock, gold and iron when you are on the diamond floor because sometimes diamonds hide under or above the ores.
- Whenever you find a diamond, go to the surface and place it in a chest.
- Sometimes mods can give you lots of diamonds (including the Too Many Item mod and in some cases the same as the Solar System mod).
- If you find dirt or gravel, you'll need to dig it all out, but be careful with lava.
- The big mistake in mining is not not using an iron pickaxe. You will find a lot of iron, and iron will speed up the process.
- If your Lucky pickaxe breaks, you can use the Silk Touch pickaxe to store diamonds until you get a new pickaxe.
- Bring lots of dirt so that when you encounter the lava you can put it on the lava, making a path.
- If in the cave you find a dead end, you can place a mine cart with a block of TNT on it. When you sit in the mine cart, you will be able to see the open space around you.
- Dig up the first layer of bedrock, lots of diamonds appear there and you'll be under a pool of lava.
- When you enter the cave, place a torch that can mark the way out so you don't get lost.
- The texture pack rarely helps you find diamonds because the texture pack can only show you blocks that are visible on the surface. Use the mod to find diamonds, but actually looking for diamonds yourself will give you even more satisfaction.
Warning
- Watch out for Creepers, they spawn very quickly and can blow you up.
- Never dig straight down unless you intend to break the diamond search record because the lava may be beneath you. Never dig straight up either.
