Step 4. Make sure the mod is compatible
The mod you download must be compatible with the existing version of Minecraft. All mods must have information regarding a compatible version of Minecraft.
Step 5. Install the Forge API
Forge API is a new release to easily install mods and minimize crashes. This app is optional, except for some special mods that require the Forge API. Some mods require an older app called Modloader. This app is not compatible with the Forge API, so you can only use one of them.
- It is recommended that you install Forge on a clean install of Minecraft. This will help reduce errors and compatibility issues.

Download the latest Forge installer from the developer's website.

Open the installer. Make sure the settings are in “Install client”, then click OK. Forge will be installed. You can select the Forge profile from the Minecraft launcher to load the installed Forge mod.

Step 6. Download the mod of your choice
Once you find the mod you want to try, download it to your computer. The mod file must be in JAR or ZIP format.
Step 7. Install the Mod
Open the Minecraft application folder in the \%appdata%\ folder. You can open this folder by typing %AppData% into the Run box (Windows), or by pressing alt=""Image" and then clicking the Go menu and selecting Library (Mac). Open the Minecraft folder and then open the “mods” folder. Copy the downloaded mod file to that folder.
Step 8. Launch Minecraft
Load the Forge profile (if using the Forge mod), then click Play. On the main menu, you will see a “Mods” option. Click to see all the mods that have been installed. IF you want to remove a mod, delete it from the “mods” folder.
