This wikiHow teaches you how to install Windows Movie Maker on a Windows 10 computer. Although official Microsoft support for Windows Movie Maker and other Windows Essentials programs has ended in 2012, you can still download and install Windows Movie Maker.
Step
Step 1. Download the Windows Live Essentials setup file
Visit this site to download the setup file.
This page has an almost blank look. Wait a few seconds to 1 minute before the file starts downloading
Step 2. Open the setup file
Open the file by double clicking the file wlsetup-all in the folder used to store downloads on your computer.
Step 3. Click Yes when prompted
The Windows Essentials installation window will open.
Step 4. Click Install all of Windows Essentials (recommended)
It's at the top of the page. Most Windows Essentials programs are not compatible with Windows 10. However, you can still install Windows Movie Maker by clicking this option.
Step 5. Click Show Details
You can find it in the lower left corner. The screen will display a percentage and a progress bar, as well as information about what programs are installed on the computer.
Step 6. Wait while Windows Movie Maker is installed
Most likely the first program to install was Windows Movie Maker. Wait for the program to finish installing. When the name of the displayed program has changed to another program (such as "Mail"), you can continue the process.
Step 7. Open the Start menu
You can do this by clicking on the Windows logo in the lower left corner.
Step 8. Type windows movie maker
The computer will search for the Windows Movie Maker program that has been installed.
Step 9. Click Movie Maker
The icon is a roll of film at the top of the Start menu. The Windows Essentials terms of use window will open.
Step 10. Click Accept
It's in the lower-right corner. Doing so will open Movie Maker.
- If Movie Maker doesn't open after you click Accept, open Start go back, type in movie maker, then click Movie Maker in the displayed search results.
- Do not close the installation window before Movie Maker starts.
Step 11. Close the Windows Essentials installation
If the installation window displays an error message (error), click Close and confirm the decision you made when prompted. Now you can use Windows Movie Maker.
Warning
- As Windows 10 continues to be updated and developed, it is possible that the Windows Movie Maker program will crash and cannot run. Make sure you save work regularly.
- Microsoft no longer supports Windows Movie Maker so bugs and security issues will not be fixed. Maybe you need to switch to the Story Remix program.
