This wikiHow teaches you how to set up and use FaceTime to make video or voice calls. You can set up and use FaceTime on your iPhone or Mac.

Part 1 of 4: Setting up FaceTime on a Mobile Device
Step 1. Open the iPhone settings menu (“Settings”)
This app is marked with a gray gear icon. You can find this icon on your device's home screen.
Step 2. Swipe the screen and touch FaceTime
It's in the lower third of the settings page (“Settings”).
Step 3. Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime
It's in the middle of the page.
Step 4. Enter your Apple ID and password
Type in the email address and password you use to sign in to your Apple account.
Step 5. Touch Sign In
This link is at the bottom of the login window. After that, additional options will appear on the FaceTime page.
Step 6. Make sure you enter the correct phone number and email address
Under the heading " YOU CAN BE REACHED BY FACETIME AT " that appears in the middle of the page, check the phone number and email address to make sure they are correct.
- The phone number and email address marked with a check mark are the numbers or addresses that are currently being used by other people to contact you via FaceTime.
- Touch the checkmarked email address or phone number to uncheck it.
Step 7. Swipe FaceTime
to the right (position "On")
It's at the top of the screen. The switch color will turn green when FaceTime is activated.
If the switch is green, FaceTime is already enabled on the device
Part 2 of 4: Setting Up FaceTime on a Mac
Step 1. Open FaceTime
This app is marked by a white video camera icon on a green background. Usually, you can find this icon in your computer's Dock.
Step 2. Enter your Apple ID email address and password
Type in the email address and password you use to sign in to your Apple account, then press Return.
Step 3. Click FaceTime
This menu is in the upper-left corner of your computer screen.
Step 4. Click Preferences
It's at the top of the drop-down menu FaceTime ”.
Step 5. Make sure the email address entered is active for FaceTime
Under the Apple ID email address that appears at the top of the page, you should see a check mark next to the text "Enable this account". If there is no check mark next to the text, click the box to the left of the text to activate your account.
Step 6. Review additional phone numbers and email addresses
Under the " You can be reached for FaceTime at: " text in the middle of the page, you can see the phone numbers and other email addresses associated with the account. Make sure that the number or address (which other people can use to contact you via FaceTime) is checked.
You can also click the link “ Add Email ” to add another email address to your FaceTime profile.
Step 7. Click the FaceTime window
After that, you'll be back in FaceTime and your account preferences will be updated. Now, you can make FaceTime calls from your Mac using your Apple ID, as well as receive calls to any registered email address.
Part 3 of 4: Making Calls Through Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open FaceTime
This app is marked by a white video camera icon on a green background. Usually, you can find this icon on your device's home screen.
Step 2. Select the contact you want to call
Tap the text box at the top of the screen, type in the name (or phone number/email address) of the recipient of the call, and tap the appropriate contact name when it appears. After that, the recipient's contact page will be displayed.
You can also touch the icon “ + ” in the upper-right corner of the screen and scroll through the list, then tap the name of the contact you want to call.
Step 3. Touch the “Call” icon
Select the video camera icon to make a video call, or touch the phone icon to make a voice call. These icons are in the far-right corner of the screen, next to the contact's name.
Step 4. Wait for the call to connect
When the contact answers the call, you can see it in a few seconds (if you are making a video call).
If a FaceTime contact calls you, touch the “ Accept ” is green to receive a call.
Step 5. Switch to the FaceTime camera
Tap the camera icon in the lower-left corner of the FaceTime page to switch from the device's front camera to the rear camera (or vice versa).
If you are making a voice call via FaceTime, you can touch the “ FaceTime ” to switch to video calling, whenever you want.
Step 6. Turn off the sound
Tap the microphone icon in the lower-right corner of the FaceTime page to mute your voice input.
Step 7. End the call
Touch the red circle button at the bottom of the screen to hang up.
Part 4 of 4: Making Calls Via Mac Computer
Step 1. Open FaceTime if the app is not already open
Click the FaceTime icon in the device's Dock to open the app.
Step 2. Type in the contact's name, email address, or phone number
Enter the information in the text bar at the top of the FaceTime window.
You can also click the “ + ” to display the contact list.
Step 3. Click the name of the contact you want to call
You can see the name of the recipient of the call below the text bar. Click the name to open the contact card.
Step 4. Click the “Call” icon
This icon is to the right of the contact's name. Click the video camera icon to make a video call, or click the phone icon to make a voice call.
Step 5. Wait for the call to connect
Once connected, you can see (or, for voice calls, hear) the other person.
- If a contact calls you, click the “ Accept ” to receive the call.
- You can end the call by clicking the “ End " coloured Red.
