Method 1 of 4: Using Android Device Manager
Step 1. Open https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager in a web browser
If you have set up your Galaxy Note device to work in Android Device Manager, you can use the program to reset a lost or forgotten password.
Step 2. Sign in to your Google account
Use the username and password used to set up or access Note.
Step 3. Click Samsung Galaxy Note on the screen
If it doesn't appear, the device is not connected to the Google account you currently have access to.
Step 4. Click “Lock”
If you see the “Lock & Erase” option, touch the option and follow the prompts to enable the remote lock feature. After that, select “Lock” when the options are displayed.
Step 5. Enter the new password and click “Lock”
The password you enter is the password you need to use to get back into and use your phone.
You don't have to fill in the "Recovery Message" field
Step 6. Access or unlock Galaxy Note device using new password
When you log back into your phone, you'll see a password field. Enter the new password you set to unlock the phone.
Step 7. Open the device settings menu or “Settings”
Once you're back in to your device, you can set a new password.
Step 8. Select “Security” from the “Settings” menu
You may need to scroll through the screen to find the option.
Step 9. Touch “Screen lock” and enter the new password one more time
Now you can see the “Choose screen lock” page.
Step 10. Select the device unlock method
The available lock options differ depending on the age of the device and the version of Android you are running.
- “None”: The password will be deleted from the device. When you turn on your phone screen, you don't need to enter your password before you can use the device.
- “Swipe”: The device does not require a password to be used. You just need to swipe the screen quickly to unlock the phone.
- “Pattern”: With this method, you can unlock the device by dragging your finger on a series of dots in a certain pattern.
- “PIN”: Select this option if you want to unlock the device by entering a 4 digit PIN (or more) on the numeric keypad of the phone.
- “Password”: Select this option if you want to unlock the device by entering a password of 4 characters (or more), both letters and/or numbers via the on-screen keyboard.
Step 11. Follow the on-screen prompts to save the new lock option
The new password or lock option will be applied to the device immediately.
Method 2 of 4: Using the Samsung Find My Mobile Site from Samsung
Step 1. Go to https://findmymobile.samsung.com/ via a web browser
If you created and set up a Samsung account when you first set up your Galaxy Note device, you can reset a lost password via the Samsung Find My Mobile website.
Step 2. Sign in using the Samsung account username and password
When logged in, you can see the device under the “Registered Device” section on the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Select “Unlock my screen”
This link is in the left-hand bar of the screen, under the “Protect my device” heading. Once clicked, you should see an “Unlock” button in the middle of the screen.
Step 4. Click “Unlock”
After a few seconds, the website will display a message indicating that the phone screen is unlocked.
Step 5. Open the device settings menu or “Settings” on the Galaxy Note device
Once you're back on your phone, you can now set a new password.
Step 6. Select “Security” from the “Settings” menu
You may need to scroll through the screen to find the option.
Step 7. Touch “Screen lock” and enter the new password one more time
Now you can see the “Choose screen lock” page.

Method 3 of 4: Restoring Device to Factory Settings (Factory Reset)
Step 1. Try another method first
If you can't remember your device password, try using the Android Device Manager service or the Samsung Find My Mobile site first. If you still can't access your device, you will need to restore it to its factory settings.
This method will erase all data on your phone or tablet, except for the content backed up to the SD card
Step 2. Hold down the power button and select “Power Off”
When the screen is off, the phone has been successfully deactivated.

Step 3. Enter recovery mode by pressing hardware buttons
The process you need to go through is slightly different, depending on the device you're using. However, the buttons that need to be pressed are in the same place. The “Home” button is at the bottom of the screen, while the volume buttons are on the left side of the device.
- On Note 3, Note 6, Note 7: Press and hold the volume up, “Home” and power buttons at the same time. You can release all three buttons when the “Samsung Galaxy Note [version]” page is displayed on the screen. A few moments later, you will see the “Android System Recovery” page.
- On Note Edge: Press and hold the volume up, “Home”, and power buttons. When the device vibrates, release the power and “Home” buttons, while still holding down the volume up button. When the “Android System Recovery” page displays, release the volume up button.
- On Note, Note 2, Note 4: Hold down the volume up, volume down and power buttons at the same time. When the Samsung logo appears on the screen, release the power button while still holding down both volume buttons. Once the “System Recovery” page opens, release both buttons.
Step 4. Use volume down button to select “wipe data/factory reset” option
On this page, the volume keys function as up and down arrow keys. Use the two buttons to select the appropriate option.
Step 5. Press the power button to start the reset process
When prompted, confirm the decision to delete all data from the device by pressing the power button. The reset process takes a few moments.
Step 6. Press the power button when you see the message “reboot system now”
The device will restart. When reactivated, the password is no longer applied to the device. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the device as a new device.
Method 4 of 4: Changing the Current Active Password
Step 1. Open the Samsung Galaxy Note home screen
If you can still access your device, it's easy to reset your currently active password, PIN, or pattern lock. If you don't know or remember your active password, try another method.
Step 2. Touch the settings menu icon or “Settings” on the page/app drawer
This menu icon looks like a gray gear. Once touched, the settings menu will open.
Step 3. Select “Security” on the “Settings” menu
You may need to scroll to the end of the list to see this option (under the “Personal” section).
Step 4. Touch “Screen lock”
If the device is currently protected by a password or PIN, enter the entry when prompted. Once the entry is accepted, you can see the “Choose screen lock” page.
Step 5. Choose a device lock method
