If you find learning difficult and boring, find ways to make it fun. By creating a more conducive atmosphere so that it can be enjoyed and able to increase concentration, learning becomes more interesting, and also fun. Here are some guidelines and suggestions to get you started.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Self-study
Step 1. Try interactive software to make learning more fun
If you're not the tech-savvy type, ask your sibling/parent/guardian for help to make learning games.
Step 2. Use music
Play soothing music. Don't choose music or songs that have lyrics because they will distract you from the lesson, unless you're the type of person who can forget the lyrics. Something in an electronic music genre like pop or jazz is great for learning. And if you don't like music, you can think of your favorite scene in a book or movie.
Step 3. Prepare the snack
Prepare some healthy snacks to eat while studying. Allowing yourself to eat occasionally will make study time more enjoyable. Plus, the treats will be even more effective if you use them as a reward after completing a part of the task. Don't eat a big bag of chips. Try a simple snack, like an apple or a banana. B vitamins are great, but other snacks like candy are fine once in a while so you don't think about it. Try snacks rich in B vitamins such as nuts because B vitamins are good for the brain. Decorate the study corner with postcards, trinkets, character figures, notes from friends, etc. Temporary spaces can also be decorated. However, do not let the study area be too full of unnecessary items. The cleaner your study area, the better.
Step 4. Provide good lighting and a comfortable chair at the right height for the table
Studying will be more difficult if you don't sit comfortably and can't read well. Discomfort will be felt in the cold months. You can also study near a window or in natural light because the perceived energy will be greater than studying in artificial light.
Step 5. Ensure adequate ventilation
Lack of air will make us sleepy. So, make sure your room gets some fresh air, even in winter. Make sure there is air circulation even if you use a fan in the rainy season to rotate the warm air. It's better than stagnant air.
Step 6. Set the room temperature
An environment that is too hot or cold will make studying more difficult and you will be tempted to curl up in a blanket or go somewhere more comfortable. Turn on the heating or air conditioning if you have one. Otherwise, you can improvise and do what most people do, i.e. open or close windows and doors, use a heat lamp on your feet, use a blanket, take off or put on an extra layer of clothing, drink hot or cold drinks, turn on the fan, etc.
Step 7. Buy cool or creative stationery and equipment
Stationery can encourage you to learn, such as a pen that feels right in your hand, soft paper so that ink can be applied smoothly, a book holder that prevents books from falling, colorful highlighting markers that beg to be used, and an eraser that smells great. Think about what you want and make these small properties a source of fun to motivate learning. However, don't let that bother you.
Step 8. Schedule time to study and time to play
Don't study endlessly. Set a specific schedule and devote yourself fully to studying, and reward yourself with what you'd love to do afterward. Use study time effectively, don't make random pictures, feel sorry for yourself, or call friends. It will only prolong your suffering and reduce your interest in learning. Assign tasks to be completed, and work on them. When you're done, forget about it, and do whatever else you want to do. Plus, if you want, you can take a longer break, have fun with friends and relax. After the break is over, you will return with a happy feeling and can study to the end with a light heart.
Step 9. Look at it from another perspective
Maybe you learned something you don't like or don't care about. Try to think beyond the paper and look at it and think about it from a broad perspective. Think about the careers of the people who study the subject, think about how everyday problems are solved with the techniques described in the book. This will bring a seemingly boring topic to life and you can impress the teacher by showing that the knowledge in books can be applied in many ways. It shows that you can relate material to the real world. And that awareness will most likely dispel boredom.
Step 10. Realize that learning is not just about the topic at hand
Maybe you're not as passionate about learning as playing basketball outside or watching TV. When you study at a desk, you actually learn the ability to face challenges. You learn to prioritize, be patient, and deal with things you don't like or are interested in. It may not be felt right now, but the lesson is an important provision in life because you will face a lot of boredom in the future, such as work, meetings, ceremonies, even parties. You also learn about the world in general and where you belong. How can you be sure what you want or don't want to do in life if you don't know it beforehand?
Step 11. Invite your pet to accompany the study
If you have a pet, such as a cat or fish, keep them close to you when you study. The rhythm of the cat purring provides a sense of comfort that makes learning time easier and the fish swimming can remind you that you have to learn to be a big fish in the middle of the sea. Dogs can also be used as study companions if they are trained to be quiet when you need to concentrate and be cheerful when you rest.
Step 12. Don't forget to take a break
Short, frequent breaks are better for you and your thought process than long, infrequent breaks. Set an alarm to go off every half hour, and stretch, make coffee or milkshakes, or watch the weather outside. Whatever your age, try to turn learning materials into games. That way will work. If you have a sister, let her help. Turn your material into a song or rap. You'll be surprised yourself when you realize how much it will help.
Step 13. Make math problems more interesting or a bit silly
For example, Andi has 5 apples. If he goes to the apple orchard and picks five of the apples he already has, but drops 3 on the way home, how many apples do he have now? Isn't that a boring thing? You can make it more interesting. For example, Mr Elephant has 5 bubbles. He went to the land of bubbles and his friend Mr. Tortoise gave him 5 times the number of bubbles he already had. If Mr Elephant drops 3 bubbles into a hole full of needles, how many bubbles does he have now? Wouldn't that be better? If you use a cute name, a favorite object, or a custom place, the questions will be 10 times more interesting and will inspire you to complete them.
Step 14. Compose a short song about the general points of the material you are studying
If you don't have time to compose a song, try going to YouTube. There may be several relevant songs. Maybe you need to start with Animaniacs. If you're the creative type, pick a song and get the lyrics out, then enter your subject matter and sing to the tune of the chosen song. If sung, the material may seep into the brain. Make sure you print out these new lyrics and sing them at least once each night so they're easy to remember.
Step 15. Make a card
The best site for making cards is Quizlet. Write the terms in uppercase and their definitions in lowercase. With different writings, colors and decorations, you will easily remember them. Make sure you USE the card. If only created, the card is useless.
Step 16. Read your notes and draw a picture
For example, if there is information "East Java produces more rice than West Java", you can draw rice and symbols of East Java smiling and West Java frowning. It is suitable for visual learner types.
Step 17. Create a memorable table
Take A4 paper and make a table. Use brightly colored pens, markers, etc., and define colors. For example, for history, you could use neon green to write the date, blue for the names of important figures, and purple for significant services they did.
Step 18. Use a funny accent or weird voice when reading a book
You can also record sound and listen to it once per night. This method helps to study literature and history books.
Step 19. Use mnemonics
For example, the five largest lakes in America are HOMES (Short for Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior). However, put together creative words to make them easy to remember. A creative way to remember the eight levels of classification is Emperor Farsi's Lady Escort People Folio Stuttering Alone (Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species). Or, Kbrother Hcurrent Datang Ufor Dsupport Saya Msinging (Kilo, Hekto, Deka, Unit, Desi, Senti, Mili).
Step 20. Make a small poster that can be pasted on the wall of your room or house
Decorate and bolt pictures. On the night before the test or quiz, show it and explain it to the family.
Step 21. Have an alphabet cereal breakfast on the day the English spelling test is held
Ask a parent or sibling to say one word. If you can spell the word with the cereal, you can eat it.
Step 22. Use a computer if you are the type of person who likes IT/computers
You can take notes with a computer instead of handwriting which is sometimes tiring and takes a long time. Feel free to type on a computer if you find it easier. You can create funny animations with voice-overs, Prezi presentations, PowerPoint slides with music, pictures, and videos. If you're writing in a Word Document, make it more special with a personal logo and use it as a paper header. So, no one will steal your notes.
Step 23. Pretend to be a teacher and create test questions or quizzes that are answered by yourself or by siblings and/or parents
Ask one of the family members who did not answer the question to give a score. You can also rate it if you are sure.
Step 24. Try replacing some of the characters in private lessons with characters from video games, TV shows, or characters from other media if you're bored with the characters in the literary works you're reading
This way, the material will be MUCH more interesting.
Step 25. Try changing the mood
Pack your books, notes, and binders, then head to the coffee shop or library. Bonus: there might be someone out there who can help you with your homework.
Step 26. Just relax
You can try a massage. It will help you to learn.
Step 27. Do your best
Don't burden yourself, you'll be fine.
Step 28. Play a math game online or a writing game on paper
So, you can still learn while having fun.
Step 29. Try spelling out the word 5 times
This will help you memorize it.
Method 2 of 2: Study with Others
Step 1. Study with your brother
If you don't have siblings, you can ask your parents if you can invite your classmates to study at home and maybe play a study game, but make sure you do study.
Step 2. Speak out loud
There are different ways of learning, and there are some people who say the words out loud to stick in their heads. Discuss examples of quiz questions or homework with study friends.
Step 3. Ask each other questions
Take turns asking questions about the questions or vocabulary to be learned.
Step 4. Try racing with friends
Set a time limit, and see who can answer the questions or write faster. The slowest person loses. However, this method may not be the best because it is not always fair. There are some people who just need more time.
Step 5. Create unique punishments to motivate you and your friends if you have to study hard
For example, the first person to leave without completing an assignment is not allowed to attend an upcoming school event.
Step 6. Make a short skit or comedy with friends
You can pretend to be a TV or play character, or create your own. Turn your notes into scripts and memorize all the “dialogues” by saying them out loud over and over. Then, when you have memorized it, speak as if you were the chosen character. You can also use an accent or sing like a Broadway show. If you're confident, try performing a comedy in front of friends, teachers, or parents, and make them laugh. This method will help if you are the type of person who learns by tactile (learning by touching) or verbal (learning by talking). It might seem weird at first, but when you think about it, it works, especially if you're doing it with friends. With this point of view, studying will not be boring at all.
Step 7. Study in the same place quietly, and take a break every half hour or one hour
Do something fun, like watch TV, or play a video game or board game.
Tips
- Make a to-do list. Thus, all plans were in sight. Crossing out what has already been completed from the list is sometimes very satisfying. Add breaks: 1. Study Chapter 1, 2. Study Chapter 2, 3. Eat a snack, 4. Study Chapter 3, and so on.
- Turn off the TV and ask your family to be quiet.
- Create your own corner for studying.
- If there is an exam, don't forget to re-study well in advance because if you repeat a day or two before the exam, you will be bored and stressed.
- Healthy snacks for studying include raisins, sunflower seeds, dark chocolate, dried cranberries, small crackers, cheese, homemade cookies (not much!) jellies, fruit, vegetable sticks like celery or carrots, homemade popcorn, etc. Other occasional treats to pamper you when you're under a lot of stress (ahead of exams & essay deadlines) are a little chocolate bar, cake from the store, chips and a slice of tart. Everything should be in moderation, and a healthy and regular diet should be adopted for the sake of health.
- If you're bored with a subject because you don't understand it, ask a tutor, sibling, parent, friend, or anyone else who can help you learn it. For students, you can re-evaluate whether your choice is right or whether you need to change courses or even majors. Don't despair, help is always there.
- Drink a glass of water before reading.
- Don't be lazy to take notes. Never underestimate the power of writing what you learn by hand (and neatly). This helps information to absorb into the brain. And when taking notes, use colored pens to mark key words. Write as if you are teaching someone else. As a result, your grades will improve.
- Do not read in a hurry and do not understand anything. Read slowly, ask your parents/brothers what you don't understand, and make sure you go to school ready for quizzes or tests. You can also read or repeat lessons every weekend.
- Rewarding yourself can also motivate you to keep learning, such as eating a piece of candy every time you finish a paragraph.
Warning
- Never promise you'll only watch one television show, only listen to one song, only check one email, or "only one" other. Usually, you'll lose track of time and can't leave the TV, iPod, email, or whatever.
- When listening to music, you will be enjoying yourself and will pay more attention to the rhythm of the music than the lesson. Turn off the music if you have this tendency. Not everyone can tolerate music or noise.
- Don't overeat to reduce stress and get enough sleep when studying hard. Don't get sick. Humans must be able to overcome every challenge calmly.
- Don't give up if you have trouble. Anyone can feel stuck, bored, and need a break even if it's just a short one. Don't be hard on yourself, take a break and gather your spirits before giving up. Also, seek help if you have a particular learning disability. There are many excellent and trained assistants in schools and universities who can help. Rest assured, they are there to help, not to say you can't.
- Pay attention if you are constantly under a lot of stress. It might be time to talk to the doctor.
