Step 1. The lasagna you're about to cook is sure to be delicious even if you decide to make your own red sauce or buy it from a store
-
To make your own red sauce: Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet.
-
Finely dice a small carrot, a small sprig of celery, and two tablespoons of parsley. Once smooth, pour into the pan. Stir until everything is covered with olive oil.
-
Use low heat and cook the vegetables and olive oil for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally until cooked and soft.
-
Chop a clove of garlic and add it to the mixture. Use medium heat.
-
Add a can of whole tomatoes along with the juice. Add a teaspoon of tomato paste and two tablespoons of chopped fresh basil.
-
Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a boil over low heat and cook for 15 minutes uncovered. The sauce will thicken. Stir occasionally.
-
For a flavorful sauce, let it simmer all day.
Step 2. Mix 453 grams of Italian sausage with 227 grams of beef
Place the meat mixture in the skillet and cook until brown.
Skip this step if you want to make a vegetarian lasagna
Step 3. Set aside any remaining oil if any after the meat is fully cooked
Dry cooked meat will make your lasagna healthier. Set the meat aside when it's cooked.
Method 2 of 3: Making the Cheese Sauce
Step 1. Pour 453 grams of ricotta cheese into a bowl
Add the eggs and beat until evenly mixed. When ready to the edge of the bowl. You'll use it later to coat the lasagna so there's a divider in each layer while holding all the noodles together.
Step 2. Grate mozzarella cheese with a cheese grater to about 4 cups
Step 3. Mix a cup of Parmesan cheese with grated mozzarella
This mixture will be used to make its own layer of lasagna.
Another option is to combine ricotta, Parmesan, mozzarella and eggs in one large bowl. Make sure you mix it thoroughly
Method 3 of 3: Coating and Baking Lasagna
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Arrange all the prepared ingredients in a bowl regularly to make the coating process faster and more efficient.
If you're making lasagna with friends or the kids, let each of them do one layer. The coating process may be slow but pleasant
Step 2. In a 23 cm x 33 cm baking dish, pour 1 and 1/2 cups of prepared sauce
Make sure the bottom of the pan is evenly covered.
Step 3. Coat the sauce with four sheets of lasagna oven noodles
Step 4. Sprinkle a cup of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles with a knife
The ricotta will serve as the base layer for all the remaining cheese as well as solidify all the layers of the noodles.
If you choose to combine all the cheeses, sprinkle 1/2 of the cheese mixture over the noodles. Set aside the rest
Step 5. Sprinkle the Mozzarella and Parmesan mixture over the ricotta
Pay attention to how many layers of cheese you want and leave enough mixture for each layer. The number of layers in the lasagna depends entirely on individual tastes.
Step 6. Coat the cheese mixture with 1/3 of the meat mixture
Re-coat the meat mixture with the sauce.
Step 7. Repeat the coating process
Sauce, pasta noodles, cheese, then meat and a layer of sauce.
Step 8. Cover the last layer with four sheets of lasagna oven noodles
Add the remaining sauce to cover the noodle sheets.
Step 9. Sprinkle the remaining Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese into the sauce
This cheese mixture will melt on top and stick together.
Step 10. Sprinkle the top layer with a little garlic powder or garlic salt and garnish with parsley
Add as much or as little as you want. This is an optional step. (for added taste and aroma).
Step 11. Wrap the lasagna tightly in foil
Place the lasagna on parchment paper to prevent any spilled liquid, if any.
Step 12. Bake the foil-covered lasagna for about 30 minutes
Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until the top layer of the lasagna is light brown and bubbly. Turn off the oven and let the lasagna sit for 10 minutes. Give the lasagna time to fully cook.
