Slime! The chewy texture and glossy color are so pleasing. Slime is perfect for stress relief and the sound when pulled, sounds exciting. However, what if you find the slime turning rock-hard when you open the storage case? Luckily, there are a few easy tricks to turn your slime back like new.

Step

Method 1 of 2: Easy Ways to Soften Slime

Step 1. Add a little water

Sounds easy, right? However, it works. Several types of slime can be softened this way. Place the slime in a bowl, then add a little water. You probably won't even need a spoonful of water. Then, knead until the slime is soft again.

Step 2. Add some antibacterial gel

Another way to soften slime is to add a drop or two of antibacterial gel. Any brand can. Place the slime in a bowl, then just drop the gel. Use a spoon to stir it as evenly as possible. Then knead until soft. As a bonus, your slime will be bacteria-free (at least for a while).

If on the first try the slime doesn't soften, just add the gel

Step 3. Moisturize with lotion

Lotion can make skin smooth and soft, so can slime. Just try it! Put a tablespoon or two in a bowl (four or five pumps if the lotion pack uses a pump). Add a little water and mix the lotion with the water. Now the fun part! Add the slime, and knead a little. When your slime is coated in lotion, take it out and knead it until it's soft.

Step 4. Add glue

If you're using a recipe that uses glue plus borax, detergent, or liquid starch, sometimes adding a little glue can help soften it. Add about a tablespoon each time adding, then knead to soften it.

Method 2 of 2: Softening Slime by Heating

Step 1. Soak the slime in warm water

Pour warm water into a bowl, then add the slime. You can stir it a little by hand. Leave it for about a minute. The slime will look split, but that's okay.

Step 2. Put the slime in the microwave oven for 10 seconds

Remove the slime from the water, then squeeze it a little. You don't want the slime to absorb all the water. Place in a heatproof bowl, and microwave for 10 seconds. Leave it outside for about a minute so the heat doesn't burn your hands. Because your hands are much more valuable than slime.

Step 3. Add a little lotion to make it more tender

Add a scoop or two of lotion. Any type can. If you use a scented lotion, the slime will smell good too. Use your hands to mix it. High five! Now your slime is soft again.
