Step 1. Download and install the desktop version of Google Earth Pro from
The download will start automatically once you click “Download Earth Pro on desktop”. With this method, you don't have to worry about using a specific browser for the program to work. This program can be used on both PC and Mac computers.
- The downloader will automatically detect your computer's operating system and download the appropriate files.
- You need to agree on the terms of use before proceeding.
Step 2. Click the downloaded file to run the installation of Google Earth Pro
You can find this file in the “Downloads” folder of the file browsing window. The program takes a while to install.
Step 3. Open Google Earth Pro
This program is available in the “Start” menu or in the “Applications” folder.
Step 4. Click the File tab
It's in the top-left corner of the main menu toolbar.
Step 5. Click Open
A file browsing window will open after that.
Step 6. Locate and double-click the KML file to open it
The file will load in Google Earth and you can see all the information in the program window.
Method 2 of 3: Using Google Earth on Chrome
Step 1. Visit https://earth.google.com/web/ via Chrome
Google Earth will run in the Chrome web browser. With this method, you can use Google Earth without downloading anything. However, only the device that you use to save the KML file can access the information in the file.
For example, if you use Google Earth in Chrome on your work computer, the KML data won't load if you switch to the software version of Google Earth on your home computer
Step 2. Click
It's in the upper-left corner of the browser window.
Step 3. Click the settings menu icon
Step 4. Click the switch to the active position or “ON”
next to “Enable KML import”.
With this option, you can import KML files.
Step 5. Click Save
The “Settings” pop-up menu will disappear.
Step 6. Click the bookmark or “My Places” icon
This icon is the fifth icon from the bottom of the “☰” icon, and is above the share icon.
Step 7. Click Import KML File
This option is on the “My Places” tab, which appears on the left side of the page. You can open files from your computer's storage space or Google Drive.
Step 8. Locate and double-click the KML file to select it
You can preview the file on the right side of the animation window.
Step 9. Click Save
The KML file and all its information will be saved to the “My Places” segment of Google Earth.
Method 3 of 3: Using Google Earth Mobile App
Step 1. Open Google Earth
This app icon looks like a globe with blue and white waves inside. You can find this icon in the app drawer or home screen, or by searching for it.

Step 2. Touch
It's in the top-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch My Places
This option is the third option on the list.
Step 4. Touch Import KML file
This option is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Locate and touch the KML file to open it
The file will load on the map.
