iTunes allows you to rent movies and watch them on any computer or device with the latest version of iTunes/iOS. Movie rentals are valid for 30 days, and you have 24 hours to watch the movie through to the end after starting it. To rent movies on iTunes, you must have an Apple ID, a compatible device, and an internet connection.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Renting Movies on iTunes
Step 1. Open iTunes on your computer or Apple device
You can rent movies on iTunes if you have a Mac or Windows computer, an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iOS 3.1.3 or later, an iPod Classic or Nano 3G, 4G, or 5G, or an Apple TV.
Step 2. Go to iTunes Store, then select Movies from the menu
Step 3. Browse to the latest movies that appear on the screen, or select a movie category from the menu to display a collection of movies by genre
Step 4. Click the movie you want to rent, then find the Rent button under Buy
Not all movies can be rented through the iTunes Store.
Step 5. Click Rent, then sign in to the iTunes Store with your Apple ID and password
If you don't have an Apple ID, click Create Apple ID, then follow the on-screen wizard to create an account
Step 6. Follow the guide to complete the transaction with the credit card you registered with iTunes
Once the payment is confirmed, the movie will start downloading to your computer or device.
Step 7. Select the option to play the movie after the download is complete
Rental movies are valid for 30 days, and you have 24 hours to watch the movie through to the end after starting it. After the rental period expires, the movie will be removed from the iTunes library.
Method 2 of 2: Troubleshooting iTunes Movie Rentals
Step 1. Try watching an HD movie that you downloaded on an HD-enabled device, such as a computer, iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod Touch 4G or later, or Apple TV, if the movie doesn't play on your current device
Step 2. Restart your iOS device or iTunes if the download fails due to network issues or other reasons
iTunes will restart the download automatically when you reopen it.
Step 3. Try updating iTunes on your computer, or installing the latest version of iOS, if you're having trouble renting movies on the iTunes Store
Sometimes, older versions of software make it difficult for you to use the iTunes service.
- Click iTunes > Check for updates to check the iTunes version.
- Tap Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device to install the latest iOS update.
Step 4. Try using another iOS device or network if you are still having trouble renting and downloading movies from the iTunes Store
Using another device will make it easier for you to troubleshoot, especially if the problem is with the connection or device.
Step 5. Make sure the time, date, and time zone on the device/computer you are using to rent movies from iTunes are correct
Mismatching time and date usually causes problems with the iTunes service.
Step 6. Turn off or clear device/computer firewall settings if iTunes can't download movies
Some firewall settings might prevent you from downloading movies from iTunes.
