At this time, the Google Play Music mobile app does not support adding album art to music files. This means that you need to use a web platform to manually add covers to music with album art that Google doesn't add automatically. You'll need to download the album art to your computer, sign in to your Google Music account, access your library, and upload the cover art to the selected song or album. Mobile application users should also not forget to use the "Refresh" feature on the application so that they can see the latest changes on the device.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Adding Album Art Via Web Platform
Step 1. Search for album cover photos from the internet
Use a Google image search service or album database like Discogs to search for matching albums and artists.
Look for high-quality images (with a resolution of at least 300 x 300 pixels) so the cover doesn't appear blurry or cracked
Step 2. Right-click the cover (or hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on a Mac) and select “Save Image As…” to download the cover photo to your computer
It's a good idea to name the file with a similar name to make it easier to track or find.
Step 3. Visit the Google Play Music website
Step 4. Sign in to your Google account
Type in your username and password, then click “Sign in”.
Step 5. Click “≡” to open the menu
It's in the top-left corner of the page.
Step 6. Click “My Library”
After that, you will be taken to a collection of music that has been uploaded and purchased.
You can only add album art to self-uploaded or purchased music. Music from the radio doesn't support adding album art (and usually, covers are provided automatically by Google)
Step 7. Click the vertical ellipsis button (3 dots) on the album/song to which you want to add an album art
The selection menu for the selected album/song will be opened.
You can select multiple songs by holding down Ctrl (⌘ Cmd on a Mac) or Shift while clicking multiple pieces of content
Step 8. Select “Edit Info”
A pop-up window with information and bookmark data for the selected album or song will open.
Step 9. Click the "Change" button that appears when the cursor is placed over the album art field
A window for browsing the previously downloaded album art files will appear.
If Google can identify the artist and album of the song in question, and has the information on the server, you can click the " Suggested Artwork " link to add the album art automatically
Step 10. Select the album art and click “Open”
The cover will be displayed in the cover preview window.
Step 11. Click “Save”
The album art will be uploaded and displayed for the selected song/album.
Part 2 of 2: Reload Google Music Mobile App to Show New Album Cover
Step 1. Open the Google Play Music app
If this is your first time installing and logging into the app, you don't need to reload it
Step 2. Touch “≡” to open the menu
It's in the upper-left corner of the app window.
Step 3. Touch “Settings”
A menu with a list of accounts and application settings will be displayed.
Step 4. Touch “Refresh”
This option is under the “Account” heading. Once the “Refreshing…” option is touched, the notification will appear and disappear after the reload is complete.
Step 5. Check the music library for updated album art
Select “My Library” from the “≡” menu. Any changes made via the web platform will be displayed on the mobile device.
