This wikiHow teaches you how to add a music track to a YouTube video. You can do this through the desktop version of YouTube and the mobile app. Please note that due to YouTube's copyright provisions, you cannot use copyrighted music in uploaded YouTube videos.

Method 1 of 2: Via the YouTube Desktop Site
Step 1. Open YouTube
Visit https://www.youtube.com via a web browser. The main YouTube page will be opened if you are already signed in to your account.
If not, click " SIGN IN ” in the top right corner of the page, then enter your email address and password.
Step 2. Click the "Upload" icon
This video camera icon is at the top of the page. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 3. Click Upload video
This option is in the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Click Select files to upload
It's in the middle of the page. Once clicked, a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window will open.
Step 5. Select videos
Go to the directory where the video you want to upload is stored, then click the video once to select it.
Step 6. Click Open
It's at the bottom of the window. The video will be uploaded and the video details page will be opened.
Step 7. Publish the video
Enter the title and description of the video as necessary, then click “ Publish ” in the top right corner of the page after the video has finished processing.
Step 8. Click YouTube Studio (beta)
It's in the lower-right corner of the page.
Step 9. Click Videos
This tab is on the left side of the page. A list of videos that you have uploaded will be displayed.
Step 10. Open the classic version of Creator Studio tools
Since the beta version of Creator Studio from YouTube doesn't allow you to edit video audio, you need to follow these steps:
- Click " Creator Studio Classic ” in the lower left corner of the page.
- Click " SKIP ” at the bottom of the pop-up window.
- Wait for the classic version of Creator Studio features to finish loading.
Step 11. Find the video you want to edit
Videos are usually shown at the top of the page.
Step 12. Click
This button is next to the “ Edit ”, on the right side of the video footage photo. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 13. Click Audio
This option is in the drop-down menu. A list of copyright-free music that you can use will appear.
Step 14. Find the desired track
Scroll through the list until you find the track you want to use.
- If you want to hear a sample track, click the play icon to the left of the track title.
- You can also search for specific tracks using the " Search all tracks " column at the top of the page.
Step 15. Click ADD TO VIDEO
It's on the right side of the track. After that, the audio track will be applied to the video.
Step 16. Adjust audio clarity
You can lower the volume of the audio track to hear the original audio of the video by clicking and dragging the " AUDIO SATURATION " slider to the left.
Step 17. Click Save changes
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the page.
Step 18. Click Save when prompted
The changes will be saved and the audio menu will be closed.
Method 2 of 2: Via YouTube Mobile App
Step 1. Open YouTube
Tap the YouTube app icon, which looks like the red and white YouTube logo on a white background. After that, the main YouTube page will be displayed if you are already logged in to your account.
If not, select an account (or enter an email address) and type in your password when prompted
Step 2. Touch "Upload" icon
It's at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Select videos
Touch the video you want to upload to select it.
Step 4. Touch the “Music” tab
It's a musical note icon at the bottom of the screen.
On Android devices, it's a note icon in the upper-left corner of the screen
Step 5. Touch Add music
It's at the bottom of the video preview window, below the screen.
Skip this step for Android device users
Step 6. Select a song
Swipe until you find the song you want to use, then touch the song to select it.
- You can listen to a sample song by touching the play button to the left of the title.
- On Android devices, touch the “ + ” in the lower right corner of the song to select it.
Step 7. Touch the “Tune” icon
This icon is to the right of the song title.
Step 8. Adjust audio clarity
You can lower the volume of the audio track to hear the original audio of the video by touching and dragging the slider at the bottom of the screen to the left.
Step 9. Touch NEXT
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Skip this step for Android device users
Step 10. Publish the video
Enter the title and description of the video, then touch “ UPLOAD ” in the upper right corner of the screen. The video will be uploaded with the selected audio track.
