Whether you're drawing a comic strip or animating a short story, knowing how to draw a boy can be a useful skill. Normally, drawing a boy is similar to drawing a girl, except that you need to draw a sharper chin, thicker eyebrows, and firmer shoulders. Exaggerate the features if you draw a cartoon boy. If you want to draw a more realistic boy, pay attention to proportions and include details or accessories.

Method 1 of 2: Draw a Cartoon Boy
Step 1. Make a big circle for the boy's head
Use a pencil to lightly draw a circle to the desired size of the cartoon head. Usually, cartoon characters have a head that is bigger than the body, so don't be afraid to overestimate the size of the head.
- If you want, make an oval instead of a circle. Thus, boys have a more pointed chin.
- If you need help drawing a perfect circle, place the glass on the paper and trace the base.
Step 2. Draw 2 circles under the head to guide the outline of the torso
Draw a circle that is smaller than the head. Then, create another small circle just below the previously created circle. You are free to determine the size of this circle, depending on the shape of the boy's body you want to draw. For example, if you want to make a pear-like body shape, make the bottom circle slightly larger than the middle circle.
Customize the cartoon by making different torso shapes. For example, create a vertical rectangle or a small square to give a different body shape to a cartoon character
Step 3. Draw vertical and horizontal guides to help you draw symmetrical features
Place the ruler vertically on the drawn outline. Draw a light straight line from the top of the head to the base of the shape. Extend the line below the bottom shape as a guide line for drawing the legs. Then, draw a straight horizontal line that goes through the center of the head.
If you're not worried about the symmetry of the drawing, skip this step and start drawing the boy's body right away
Step 4. Draw the boy's facial features
Since you're going to be drawing a cartoon, the facial features can be as simple, or as complex as you like. Draw basic shapes to create a simple face, such as a small horizontal oval for the nose, 2 small circles for the eyes, and a curved line for the mouth.
To create a more detailed feature, darken the inside of the iris and pupil before drawing the eyelashes. Keep in mind that boys' eyelashes are usually shorter than girls' lashes
Tip:
Use guide lines to help you lay out facial features symmetrically. For example, draw the eye on a horizontal guide so that the vertical guideline is between the eyes.
Step 5. Adjust the shape of the jaw and create ears on each side of the head
If a boy's jaw is left round, he will look young. If you want your boy to look older, make a "V" shape along the jawline so his face looks more muscular. To draw a simple ear, make a half circle on each side of the forging head meeting the horizontal guide lines.
You can keep the ear shape simple, or draw a horizontal line that curves down from the center of the ear shape. This line will make the ears slightly wrinkled
Step 6. Give it a striking hairstyle
Cartoon boys usually have tangled or jigrak/spike hairstyles. To create a striking hairstyle, lightly draw hairlines that meet at the crown of the head. Then, make segments of hair that are pointed and moving in the same direction. Draw hair as long or as big as you want.
- Remember, you can customize the cartoon as freely as you like. If you want the boy to have short hair, draw short thin lines over the crown and sides of the hair.
- Try drawing a hat if it matches the cartoon's personality. For example, make a beanie, a baseball cap worn upside down, or a fedora.
Step 7. Draw the torso wearing the shirt
Press the pencil a little harder to overlap the outline of the torso. Draw a smooth line connecting the two sides of the circle and draw a horizontal line along the bottom that connects the vertical lines. Then, draw a vertical line near the top to create a neckline. These outlines define the torso and create a simple shirt shape.
- Make a “V” shape to create a deeper outline.
- You can also make short sleeves, long sleeves, or button sleeves, if you like.
Tip:
Draw the logo of a band or sports team in the center of the shirt to give it a little personality.
Step 8. Make pants and shoes for the cartoon boy
Draw one pant leg that extends from under the shirt and tapers to one side of the vertical guide. Try to make the leg along the torso and repeat on the other side so you have an inverted V shape between the legs. To draw the shoes, make a small oval under each foot.
To add detail to the pants, add a few pockets on each side of the pants. You can also draw a belt around the waist
Step 9. Draw the arms on each side of the torso
You are free to determine the pose the cartoon does, including the position of his hands. You can draw 2 parallel lines from the shoulders to the bottom edge of the shirt if you want to let the boy's hands hang at his sides. You can also get her on her hips by drawing her arms bent at 90 degrees and her palms resting on her waist.
Step 10. Create the fingers
Many cartoons only have 4 fingers so they are quicker and easier to draw. Make 4-5 fingers on each hand and loop the ends. If you don't want to create fingers, draw small circles at the ends of the arms to create a clenched palm.

Method 2 of 2: Draw a Realistic Boy
Step 1. Draw an oval as the head with 2 vertical lines going down as the neck
Lightly draw a vertical oval for the head, and resize it to your liking. Then, draw 2 vertical lines that extend down from each side of the bottom of the oval. This is where the neck meets the jaw.
Make each vertical line about 1/3 the width of the face. Position each vertical line so that the distance between them is about the width of the face
Step 2. Draw 2 horizontal ovals as the chest and the lower part of the torso
Make a horizontal line so that the top side touches the neckline that has been made. Make sure the oval is the same width as the head and make it twice the length of the head. Then, draw an oval that is the size of the chest oval to create the lower torso.
Leave a gap the size of the chest oval between the chest oval and the bottom oval of the torso
Step 3. Draw straight lines as the arms, legs and torso of the boy
Please use a ruler to draw a straight vertical line from the center of the chest down to the bottom of the torso. Then, draw a straight vertical line from the ends of the shoulders to the bottom of the torso. Place the tip of the pencil on the bottom of the torso near the sides and draw another straight line that goes down to create the legs.
- Repeat the process to create the arm and leg on the other side.
- Make the length of the leg line equal to the distance from the top of the chest to the bottom of the torso.
Tip:
Draw each line so that it bends slightly in the middle and makes it look like the joints stick out.
Step 4. Draw the eyes, nose and mouth
Place the eyes near the center of the face and leave some distance from one eye to the other. Make the eyes as expressive as you want, and add lashes that are slightly shorter than the girls' lashes. Draw a nose that is about eye-width apart and position it in the center of the face, below between the eyes. Then, put the mouth slightly wider than the nose.
- You can center the mouth under the nose or raise one side of the mouth so that the boy appears to be smiling or grinning.
- You need to remember, the features of boys and girls are very similar, especially in young children. To make the boy's traits stand out more, make the eyebrows thicker and darker and sharpen the jawline.
Step 5. Give the image a striking hairstyle
Determine the overall view you want to produce. You can give it short and slick hair, or long and slightly messy hair. Keep your wrist relaxed to draw light, thin lines that look like strands of hair. You can stick out some hair to make the image look more realistic. Keep in mind that some of the hair may come down your face or hang near your eyes.
You are free to determine the length of the boy's drawing hair! Experiment with different hairstyles to determine what works best for your character. For example, draw thin hair that crosses the forehead or wavy along the shoulders
Step 6. Draw the t-shirt in an oval shape in the center of the body
Press the pencil firmly on the 2 ovals made in the center of the image. Follow the curved line at the top of the oval and create the sleeves of the shirt. Then, go back and adjust the neckline to make it V-shaped or curved. Draw a straight vertical line that goes down each side of the shirt and draw a horizontal line at the bottom of the torso to connect the two related vertical lines.
To add personality to the image, make the boy wear a t-shirt, long-sleeved shirt or jacket
Step 7. Draw the arms on either side hanging straight or slightly bent
Lightly make a small circle where the elbow will be. Then, draw 2 parallel lines from the sleeves to the sides of the elbow circles to create the upper sleeves. The arm can be drawn as thin or as large as possible. Then, continue parallel lines from the circle until it reaches the bottom of the previously drawn guideline. Make each finger on the hand or draw a clenched fist.
- Repeat this step for the other arm or draw in a different position.
- Make sure the forearm tapers slightly as it gets closer to the palm.
Step 8. Draw trousers or shorts with legs
Decide whether the boy will wear trousers or shorts. Lightly draw a small circle where the knee will be and draw a thicker vertical line from the side of the shirt to the knee. Extend the line down to the bottom of the guide line to make pants. Then, put a short horizontal line on the bottom of the short or long pants. Draw the inside of the pants until they meet at the crotch.
Draw the distance between the legs so that it forms an inverted "V"
Step 9. Make shoes to cover the feet
Draw a small oval under each leg. Make it over the top side so that it curves down towards the toes. Then, go back and add laces at the top of the shoe. The bottom of the shoe is flat, unless you want to add a heel for the boot.
You can draw the shoes so they are pointing straight ahead or slightly sideways
Step 10. Add accessories or decorations to the outfit
To make the image more interesting, put a logo or interesting image in the middle of the shirt. If you're drawing a slightly older child, try drawing headphones or a sling bag hanging limply from his shoulder. You can also give him a baseball cap or have him hold the skateboard to the side.
To make a cartoon boy look younger, choose a cartoon character or a simple shape, such as a dinosaur or a rocket as a t-shirt decoration
