This wikiHow teaches you how to open a Command Prompt program in Windows. There are several ways to do this, from looking for it in the “Start” menu to using the “Run” command. However, keep in mind that some computers, such as school computers, cannot run Command Prompt due to restrictions that may be set by the school.

Method 1 of 3: Searching for Command Prompt
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen, or press Win. You can search for the Command Prompt program on all versions of Windows that support the program.
If you're using Windows 8, instead of placing the mouse cursor in the upper-right corner of the screen, click the magnifying glass icon when it's displayed
Step 2. Type command prompt into the “Start” menu
The “Start” search bar is at the bottom of the “Start” window. Once typed, the Command Prompt program will be searched.
Step 3. Click
"Command Prompt".
You can see the Command Prompt icon at the top of the “Start” window. Once the icon is clicked, the Command Prompt program will be opened.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Run. Program
Step 1. Open the Run program
Press and hold the Win key and press the R key to open the Run window.
You can also right-click the “Start” icon (or press the Win+X key combination) and click the “ Run ”.
Step 2. Type cmd into the Run window
The entry is a command to open the Command Prompt.
Step 3. Click OK
After that, the command "cmd.exe" will be executed and the Command Prompt program will be opened.
Method 3 of 3: Navigating the Command Prompt
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen. You can also press Win key.
Step 2. Scroll the screen until you reach the Windows System section and click on the option

Step 3. Click the “Command Prompt” option

- You can create a Command Prompt shortcut if you access or use it frequently.
