This wikiHow teaches you how to install The Sims 4 and the mandatory game manager Origin program on a Windows or MacOS computer. Unlike previous versions of The Sims, to install The Sims 4 you will need to install these additional applications, even if you purchased the game on disc. You'll need an internet connection to install Origin, but to play The Sims 4 yourself, your computer doesn't have to be connected to a network.

Method 1 of 2: On Windows Computer
Step 1. Visit https://www.origin.com/download via a web browser
To install The Sims 4 on your PC, you'll also need to use a game manager program called Origin. You need to download this app, even if you bought the game on disc or CD.

The Sims 4 can run on Windows 10, 8.1, or 7 as long as the computer paper device meets the following requirements:
- 2 GB RAM (minimum), but EA recommends at least 4 GB of RAM to get the best performance.
- At least 9 GB of free disk space.
- If you have a separate graphics card, you'll need an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4000+ (or equivalent) processor. If you're using a pre-installed/built-in graphics card, you'll need an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz or AMD Turio 64 X2 (or better) processor.
Step 2. Click Download under the “Windows” text
The Origin installation file will be downloaded to the PC.
Step 3. Double-click the downloaded file
This file is named OriginThinSetup.exe ” and is stored in the computer's main downloads storage directory (usually the “ Downloads ”).

A list of installation options will be displayed.

Check or uncheck the boxes to determine how Origin functions/works after installation is complete. Origin will be downloaded and a new pop-up window will be displayed once the download is complete.

The EA login page will be displayed.

Step 8. Install The Sims 4 using the existing product code
If you haven't purchased The Sims 4 yet, move on to the next step. If you have already purchased the game, follow these steps to redeem the product code:
- Click the menu " Origin ” in the upper-left corner of the window.
- Click " Redeem Product Code ”.
- Enter the product code that came with the package to purchase The Sims 4. This code is a long series of letters and numbers. If you purchased the game on disc or CD, the code is stored in the disc box. If you purchased it from the internet, the code will be sent via confirmation email.
- Click " Next ”.
- Insert The Sims 4 disc if you have one. If you don't have one, you will be prompted to download the game.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install The Sims 4.
Step 9. Install The Sims 4 by purchasing it from Origin
Move to the next step if you have already entered the product code. If you haven't purchased The Sims 4 yet, follow these steps to install the game:
- Type sims 4 into the search bar and press Return.

The Sims 4 is only available as a digital download for MacOS so you will need to download the installation file.

The Sims 4 can run on Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) or later as long as the computer hardware meets the following requirements:
- 4 GB of RAM (minimum), but EA recommends 8 GB of RAM for best performance.
- Free storage space of at least 14 GB.
- Graphics card support: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or better. However, NVIDIA GTX 650 (or better) is actually recommended so that you can enjoy the best performance.
Step 2. Click Download under the “Mac” text
This link is in the middle of the page. The installation file will be downloaded to your computer's main downloads storage directory (usually the “Downloads” folder).
Step 3. Double-click the downloaded file
This file has a.dmg extension. A window labeled "Origin" will appear.
Step 4. Drag the orange Origin icon to the “Applications” folder
By adding the icon to the folder, the installation of the program will be prepared.
