This wikiHow teaches you how to move files on your Android device using a file manager app (eg My Files) or the Downloads app.

Method 1 of 2: Using the Downloads App
Step 1. Open the Downloads app
This app is marked by a white cloud icon and an arrow on a blue background. Usually, you can find this icon in the app drawer/page of most Android devices running the Nougat operating system (7.0) or later.
If this app is not available, read this method
Step 2. Touch
It's in the top-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the folder with the files that need to be moved
The contents of the folder will be displayed afterwards.
Step 4. Touch the file you want to move
The file will be selected and some additional icons will be displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Touch
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Move to…
A list of drives and directories will be displayed.
Step 7. Touch the directory you want to move to
If you want to move the file to Google Drive, select that option, then tap the folder where you want to move the file.
Step 8. Touch Move
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen. The file will now be displayed in its new directory.
Method 2 of 2: Using a File Manager App
Step 1. Open the file manager app on the device
If you are using a Samsung device, this app is named “ My Files ” and can be found in the page/app drawer. On other devices, the file manager application is usually named “ File Manager" or " File Browser ”.
If you don't have a file manager app, read this method. If that doesn't work, you can download a free file manager app from the Play Store
Step 2. Touch the directory of the file you want to move
The contents of the selected folder will be displayed afterwards.
Step 3. Touch and hold the file you want to move
In most applications, the file will be selected after that. For some other applications, you may only need to tap the file once to select it.
Step 4. Touch
It's in the upper-right corner of most file manager apps.
Step 5. Touch Move
A list of directories will be displayed.
Step 6. Touch the destination directory
If you want to move the file to Google Drive, select that option, then tap the folder where you want to move the file.
Step 7. Touch Move or Done.
The file will now be displayed in its new directory.
