Disappointing indeed when goods purchased via the internet do not meet expectations. Fortunately, Amazon makes it easy for its customers who want to return goods purchased. First, you'll need to process your refund online so you can get a replacement or money back. Then, you must pack the purchased item for return. If you order directly from Amazon and it's within 30 days of delivery, you can usually get a full refund or a replacement. If you received an item as a gift or from an Amazon third party, you can still return the item but the process is a bit different.

Method 1 of 4: Getting Refunds on Purchased Items
Step 1. Log in to the Amazon account used to purchase the item
Prepare the login details of the account used to buy goods and go to https://www.amazon.com. From here, go to “Sign in” in the top right corner of the screen and click the yellow “Sign in” button. Then, enter the username and password in the boxes provided.
If you forget your password, click “Forgot My Password” to reset it
Step 2. Click “Orders” in the upper right corner of the screen
Click the “Orders” button at the top right of the home page to view all your recent purchases. This will open a separate screen where you can check your purchase details and start the refund process.
Step 3. Click “Return or Replace Items” next to the item you want to return
The “Return or Replace Items” button should be to the right of the purchase you want to return. Click this button to go to the next return process page.
Step 4. Explain why you want to return the item
Select the reason for returning the item in the drop-down menu. The available options include a defective item, no longer needed, the wrong size, and so on. Click the option that best suits your situation and then press the submit button (confirm).
You can also add details regarding returns in the text box below the drop-down menu, but it's not required
Step 5. Request a refund or replacement of the item
If you want your purchase money back, click the refund button. If the purchased item is defective and you want to replace it with a new one, click replacement.
- If you choose a refund, it usually takes 3-7 business days before the refund is credited to your account.
- The refund will be credited to the card used to purchase the related item, or your Amazon account will receive the balance if the item is a gift.
- After you submit a refund request, the item must be returned within 30 days.
Step 6. Choose a return method
In most cases, you can return the item via UPS, DHL, Pos Indonesia, or JNE, if applicable, or have someone pick up the item if possible. Choose the one that is most practical for you.

Method 2 of 4: Returning Gifts Received
Step 1. Visit Amazon's Online Return Center page and click the button in the middle
Go to https://www.amazon.com/returns to sign in to Amazon's Online Return Center. Here, you can return gifts purchased from Amazon. When the page finishes loading, click the middle button that says “Return a Gift.”
Step 2. Create or log in to an Amazon account
After clicking the “Return a Gift” button, a new screen will appear asking you to enter your account details. If you already have an account, enter the requested details and click "Submit". If you don't have an account, create one first.
Click the “Create your Amazon account” button at the bottom of the login screen to create a new account
Step 3. Enter the 17-digit order number if the related item is a gift
After clicking the “Return a Gift” button, you will be asked to enter a 17-digit order number. This number can be seen at the bottom left of the packing slip. Enter the corresponding number and press Enter to enter the item ordering page.
- The order number format is usually like this 123-1234567-1234567.
- If you can't find your order number, you can contact Amazon customer service and provide packaging details so Amazon staff can find your purchase number.
Step 4. Click the “Return or Replace Items” button
The “Return or Replace Items” button should be to the right of the gift image. Click this button to go to the next return process page.
Step 5. Select the reason for the return in the drop-down menu
Tell us why you returned the gift to Amazon. Available options include defective, ill-fitting, or inappropriate items. You can include details of the reason for the return in the text box below the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Request a refund or replacement of the item
Amazon will add your Account balance to the purchase price if you want a refund. If the item received is defective and you want to replace it with a new one, click "Replacement".
After you confirm your refund request, the related item must be returned within 30 days
Step 7. Choose how to return the gift
After requesting a refund or replacement of an item, you will be taken to a window with various options to choose from for sending the related item back. Usually, you can take your items to UPS, DHL, Pos Indonesia, or JNE, or have someone pick them up if possible. Choose the most practical way and read all the instructions given.
Method 3 of 4: Returning Items from Third Party Sellers
Step 1. Log in to the Amazon account used to purchase the item
Go to https://www.amazon.com and click “Sign in” at the top right of the screen. Log in using the username and password used to purchase the item you wish to return.
If you purchased the wrong item, please cancel the order within 30 minutes of ordering
Step 2. Click “Orders” on the right side of the screen
Click “Orders” to display the most recent orders that have been made. Find items purchased from third-party sellers on this list.
Step 3. Click the “request refund” button
After submitting a refund request, you will be taken to a new page that will ask you to explain the reason for the refund request. Choose a reason and include the relevant refund details.
- Once you've submitted your request, Amazon will send you an email within a week letting you know that the request has been accepted.
- Follow the shipping instructions included in the email and send the item back to the seller.
Method 4 of 4: Packing and Shipping Items Back
Step 1. Print the return label
When you have received your refund, you will be asked to print a return label. If you don't have a printer or printer, you can send labels to someone who can print them for you.
If you haven't printed the return label yet, go to “Orders”, then click the “Print Packing Slip” button next to the item you want to return
Step 2. Pack the goods into the box well
Pack the items in the box carefully and don't forget to include all the documents that were previously included with the item. Pile up the inside of the box with a cork or roll of newspaper to keep the items in the box safe during travel.
Step 3. Stick the label on the front of the box with masking tape
Cover the entire label with clear tape to protect it from damage and water when moving. Amazon includes stamps on labels so you don't pay extra for returns.
Step 4. Take the package to a package delivery service or have it picked up at your address
Depending on the service you choose to return the goods to, you can now take the package to the delivery location, or place it in a designated place for the delivery person to pick up. If the item has been shipped, your return is complete.
