If you're reading this article and don't know how to become a human, there's a good chance you're an extraterrestrial or some kind of superintelligent research subject who escaped. Either way, this article will guide you through the process of living as a human being, from the basic need to live to the abstract achievement of human aspirations. This article uses the Hierarchy of Needs (initiated by Abraham Maslow, famous psychologist and human) as the basis of the guide.

Step 1. Meet basic physical needs

Humans cannot live in nothingness – without regard for certain physical needs, humans will soon die. Meet your most basic needs or you'll have a hard time meeting the next steps. At a minimum, humans should:

  • Breathing oxygen. The most pressing human need is to breathe air containing oxygen almost continuously. At most, humans can only live about 20 minutes without air; most can only last half of that time.
  • Eat proper food and drink water. Humans eat to obtain energy and nutrients that are vital for vital bodily processes. At a minimum, humans should consume adequate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, as well as essential vitamins and minerals. Humans also drink water, because water is crucial for many of the body's internal processes. The exact amount of food and water a human should consume will vary depending on size and level of physical activity.
  • Sleep. Humans are still not entirely sure what the purpose of sleep is, but we do know that sleep is vital for both physical and mental performance. Healthy adults usually sleep for 7-8 hours a night.
  • Maintain homeostasis. Basically, humans need to keep the external environment from interfering with their internal bodies. This can be done in various ways – for example, wearing clothes to regulate body temperature and healing wounds with stitches, etc.

Step 2. Ensure safety

The second responsibility of a human being, having fulfilled the innate requirements for life, is to seek his salvation. In order to grow and develop, humans must not worry about whether they will starve or die – that kind of thinking will defeat all efforts to reach a higher level of achievement. Here are a few ways to make sure you're "safe" as a human:

  • Avoid danger. Do not be near places or situations that can cause physical harm to the body. Injuries can affect physical health and even lead to death.
  • Buy or build a house. Humans need a place to live that can provide protection. At a minimum, a residence should have four walls and a place to sleep.
  • Make a living. Almost everything on planet earth uses money. Money can be exchanged for goods and services, including food, clothing, and protection. Most humans will eventually work to receive a reliable flow of money.

Step 3. Connect with other humans

A very famous man named Aristotle once said: "Man is by nature a social being; an unsocial individual is naturally and intentionally beyond our attention or more than man." In life as a human, you will meet other people. Some will make you feel good – they are "friends." You will feel sexual attraction to another – this is called "romantic attraction." A life lived alone is not a happy life – devote time to making friends and making love for an emotionally richer life.

  • To maintain friendships, you must "hang out" with friends. Invite them to lunch. Talk about sports. Bond with your friends – help when they need it, and they will be there to help you too.
  • Most love relationships start when one person asks the other out. Check out some of the articles on wikiHow in the category asking someone out for some guidance.

Step 4. Build self-esteem

People feel better when they see themselves as valuable and know that others think they are valuable. The easiest way to respect yourself and get others to respect you is to achieve something. Try to work towards success, whether at work or in other activities you do for pleasure (called "hobbies"). Know and believe in your abilities. Appreciate people who value you.

Friendships and romantic relationships can help boost self-esteem when you're feeling down, but self-esteem starts from within. Don't rely on other people's approval to judge your self-worth

Step 5. Validate your existence

Once humans are physically secure, have a healthy relationship base, and have a good self-image, they may begin to ponder questions like, "Why are we here?" Different people have different assumptions about the purpose of human life. Many humans adhere to a single moral principle or create their own. Others embark on creative endeavors, expressing their deepest thoughts through art. Still others try to understand the universe through science and philosophy. There's no right way to make the most of your presence in the world, but there are a few things you can do, such as the following:

  • Adhering to an existing philosophy or religion (or developing your own).
  • Write, draw, play music, or dance.
  • Become an innovator in your work.
  • Enjoy (and preserve) nature.
  • Whatever you choose, try to leave a mark on the world. Improve the world for the humans who live after you in various ways, however small they may be.

Step 6. Learn how to love and be (to be loved)

Love is hard to define; The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines love as an intense feeling of affection, bond, and/or desire for another human being. Many people say that the most beautiful thing in life is loving (and being loved by) another human being. Most humans even marry to commit to a life of loving someone. Others start a family life and have children so they can love someone from birth to death. There is no right way to live a life full of love – all you can do is follow your heart and welcome this mysterious and inexplicable love.
