This wikiHow teaches you how to restore access to your Yahoo! via a backup email address or recovery phone number. If you don't register a recovery email address or phone number with your account, you won't be able to recover your account.
Step
Step 1. Visit https://login.yahoo.com/forgot via a web browser
This site will help you recover your Yahoo! by sending a confirmation code to a backup email address or phone number.
- You'll need to be able to access your recovery email or phone number before you can recover your account. If you can't access your email account or phone number, you can contact a member of the Yahoo! (at an affordable cost). To do so, visit https://help.yahoo.com/kb/account and click “ Speak with a live agent ” in the top right corner of the page.
- If you haven't accessed your account for more than 12 months, it may be permanently deleted from Yahoo! servers.
Step 2. Enter your Yahoo
and click Continue. If you don't remember your Yahoo! email address, enter a recovery phone number or email address.
Step 3. Review the backup address or phone number
The address or phone number will be partially displayed. If you have access to your email account or phone number, click “ Yes, Send me a verification code " If not, click " I don't have access ” to get another option.
- If you can't access the backup options, you'll see the message " Uh-oh… Looks like we can't recover your account online.". To try again with another email address or phone number, click “ Start Over ”.
- When verifying your phone number, you may be asked to enter two hidden digits to make sure the number is indeed your number. If yes, enter the correct digits in the blue underlined segment and click “ Submit ”.
Step 4. Look for the verification code on messages from Yahoo
. If you selected an email address as the recovery medium, go to your email account's inbox, and click a message from Yahoo!. If you enter a phone number, you will receive a short message containing the code.
If you don't see messages from Yahoo! in your email inbox, messages may be in the “ Spam " or " Junk ”.
Step 5. Enter the verification code and click Continue
At this stage, the account has been successfully restored. Since you can't access the old password, you can create a new one.
Step 6. Click Create a new password
Step 7. Type the new password into the two fields provided
Make sure you type the same entry in both fields.
Step 8. Click Continue
You are now logged into the old account using the new password.
After logging back in, you can edit the recovery options. You can add another recovery account or remove an account or number that is no longer accessible by following the steps on the screen
