Twitter may suspend your account if you use false account information, post spam, impersonate other accounts, or exhibit violence. Accounts can also be suspended if Twitter suspects your account has been hacked or misused. The account recovery process to follow depends on the reason for the suspension. This wikiHow teaches you how to recover an account suspended by Twitter.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Recovering an Account Suspended Due to Suspicious Activity
Step 1. Log in to your Twitter account
You can log into your account at https://twitter.com, or use the Twitter mobile app.
Step 2. Click or tap Start
If Twitter suspects that your account has been misused by someone, you will see a message telling you that your account has been locked. You will need to confirm your phone number, email address, or other personal information. Click " Start " to start.
Step 3. Click or tap Verify
You need to enter personal information to verify your account. Follow the instructions given and answer questions about your account.
Step 4. Enter your phone number or email address
Type in the phone number or email address associated with the account. You will receive a confirmation code and instructions via email.
Step 5. Check the text message or email
After entering the phone number or email address associated with your account, check your messaging app or email account and look for new messages from Twitter. This message generates a verification code that can be used to unlock the account.
If you can't find messages from Twitter, try checking the “junk”, “spam”, “promotion” or “social email” folders
Step 6. Enter the verification code
After receiving the code via text message or email, enter the code into the Twitter app or website.
Step 7. Click or tap Submit
The account lock will be unlocked.
Step 8. Change the account password
If your account is suspended for security reasons, you will need to change the password as soon as the account is opened.
Method 2 of 2: Recovering an Account Suspended Due to a Rule Violation
Step 1. Log in to your Twitter account
You can log into your account at https://twitter.com, or use the Twitter mobile app. If your account is suspended, you'll see a message telling you that your account has been locked or that the use of some features has been restricted.
Step 2. Click or tap Start
If available, the options for unlocking the account again will be displayed. Twitter may ask you to enter certain information such as a phone number or email address. In other situations, the only option available is that you can return to using Twitter within certain limits.
Step 3. Click or tap Continue to Twitter
After that, you can return to Twitter within certain limits. Some features such as sending tweets, retweeting, or giving likes may be revoked. Only followers can see your old tweets.
If you get the option to verify your account, make sure you click or tap that option. If you return to Twitter without a verification process, you won't be able to go back and verify your account
Step 4. Delete all tweets (as well as other people's re-shared tweets) that violate the rules
If you have limited access to your Twitter account, make sure you delete all tweets (and reshared tweets) that violate Twitter's rules of use.
Step 5. Visit https://help.twitter.com/forms/general?subtopic=suspended via a web browser
If you feel that the suspension of your account was a mistake or unfair action, you can use the form on that page to file an appeal.
You may need to sign in to your account before you can fill out the form. If you need to log in, click “ Login ” in the top right corner of the page, then enter your account username and password to log in.
Step 6. Select the problem
Use the drop-down menu next to "Where are you experiencing this issue?" to select the reason that best fits the problem you're experiencing.
Step 7. Describe the problem description
Use the column next to " Description of the problem " to describe the problem at hand. Use this column to explain why you think you're not violating Twitter rules, or are having trouble unsuspending your account. Use language as politely as possible.
Step 8. Type in the full name
Use the line next to " Full name " to enter your full name.
Step 9. Verify the username and email address
Your Twitter email address and username will be displayed automatically. Make sure that both information is correct. The address entered is the address used by Twitter to communicate with you.
Step 10. Enter the phone number (optional)
If you wish, you have the option to enter a phone number.
Step 11. Submit the form
Once the form is filled in, click the button to submit it. Twitter will contact you via email after making a decision regarding your account. You only need to appeal once.
Tips
- Use polite language when making an appeal.
- Please note that these instructions apply to suspended accounts. If you experience shadowbanning on Twitter (sanctions include hiding content uploaded from social media because the content violates the rules), the sanctions usually expire after a few hours or days. Therefore, you do not need to submit a formal account recovery request.
