Roasted pumpkin or machete is a delicious and healthy dish that can be served either as a main dish or added to a salad. Read this article to learn a few different ways to roast pumpkin.
Ingredients
Simple/Classic Roasted Pumpkin
- 1 small pumpkin or 1/4 large pumpkin
- Olive oil, for sprinkling
- A little salt and pepper
Total Time: 30 minutes | Serving: 4 minutes
Spicy Roasted Pumpkin
- 2 pounds (±0.91 kg) fresh pumpkin, peeled and seeds removed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (olive oil)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground fresh black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin or cumin seeds
Total Time: 1 hour | Serving: 4-6 minutes
Cinnamon Roasted Pumpkin
- 3 pounds (±1.36 kg) pumpkin, peeled and seeds removed
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (light brown sugar)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons peanut oil or olive oil
Total Time: 1 hour | Serving: 8-10 minutes
Step
Method 1 of 3: Simple/Classic Roasted Pumpkin
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius)
Step 2. Cut the pumpkin in half using a large knife
Use a spoon to scoop out the inside of the pumpkin-the fine threads and seeds. Set aside the pumpkin seeds and prepare them for a later roasted pumpkin seed dish.
Step 3. Cut the pumpkin into 1-inch (±2.54 cm) thick slices
Pierce the outer skin of the pumpkin with the tip of a large utility knife. Position the knife in the groove made with the puncture and slowly sink the knife into the flask using a rocking motion.
The thicker the pumpkin slices you make, the longer it will take to bake. Therefore, it is recommended to make ±2.54 cm slices, giving yourself enough time to develop a good caramelization process on the outer surface of the pumpkin
Step 4. Place the triangular pumpkin slices on a large baking tray and drizzle with olive oil.
Step 5. Season the pumpkin
Salt and pepper make for a great combination, but why don't you experiment a little bit to make outlandish weird combinations? Try the following:
- Garam masala (spice mix for Indian cuisine)
- Cumin and curry powder
- Cloves, cinnamon, and brown sugar (light brown sugar)
Step 6. Bake the triangular pumpkin for about 20 minutes
If the pumpkin pieces are slightly thicker than 2 inches, bake for 25 minutes and check every 5 minutes. If the thickness is less than 2.54 cm, you can simply bake it for 15 minutes and check every 5 minutes.
Method 2 of 3: Spicy Roasted Pumpkin
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius)
This preheating will save you time, while you can prepare the ingredients for baking.
Step 2. Cut the pumpkin into 5 cm cubes with a sharp utility knife
Combine olive oil, salt, pepper, and cumin, in a small bowl.
Step 3. Coat a flat pan with cooking spray - a specially packaged low-fat vegetable oil that is sprayed on and used - or olive oil
Alternatively, cover the pan with foil (aluminum foil).
Place the pumpkin pieces on a flat baking sheet. Try to arrange them so that the pieces don't touch each other. Use a spoon to apply olive oil to the surface of the pumpkin, or use a brush (pastry brush) to polish each piece of pumpkin
Step 4. Bake for 30-35 minutes
At the end of the process, the pumpkin should turn soft and the edges light brown.
Step 5. Remove the pumpkin from the oven
Pumpkin can be served warm as a side dish, or refrigerated and served cold with a salad.

Method 3 of 3: Cinnamon Roasted Pumpkin
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (162 degrees Celsius)
Meanwhile, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and salt, in a small bowl.
Step 2. Use a utility knife to cut the pumpkin into 2-inch (±5.1 cm) slices
You can also cut them into cubes or slices about inch (±0.6 cm) thick.
Step 3. Coat the baking dish with cooking spray, olive oil, or butter to prevent sticking
Then, arrange the chopped pumpkin on top.
Step 4. Use a basting brush (pastry brush) to brush the pumpkin pieces with peanut oil or olive oil
If you don't have a pastry brush, use a spoon to rub some olive oil over the pumpkin, making sure to brush each slice of pumpkin.
Step 5. Sprinkle pumpkin with cinnamon and sugar
Then, close the container.
Step 6. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes
Remove the container from the oven and stir in the pumpkin, then bake again, without covering, for an additional 15 minutes. When ripe, the pumpkin should be soft in appearance.
Step 7. Allow the pumpkin to cool, then serve
Pumpkin can be served as a side dish or as a dessert. Consider serving the pumpkin with whipped cream (whipped cream, made from whipped heads of milk until it's bright and lumpy) or vanilla ice cream.
Tips
- Try adding your favorite seasonings to the pumpkin before baking, such as thyme, rosemary, cayenne pepper (red chilies are very spicy), and so on.
- Pumpkin season begins in the fall, and usually ends in winter. Pumpkin can be stored at room temperature for about a month.
- Make sure the pumpkin you use is for cooking purposes, not decoration.
